Determining fixation time

Hi,

 

Once a CD or DVD has finished burning, with completion percentages near 100%, it then sits there and works on the disc - fixation, or whatever it's doing, I'm not sure - for a while.

 

Is there any way to predict how long this will take, even very roughly? I have information on the speed of the drive, and the details of the tracks that were written. Could it be worked out from that?

 

Even if the calculation was quite inaccurate, I would like to give my users the best guess I can, rather than just sitting at 98% for several minutes.

It is hard to estimate as e.g. DVD-R/RW need to fill up the medium until at least 800 MB.
It also lagerly dependa in the drives firmware. Some drives write the related
information slowly others at full speed.
