Devicekit-disks

Hello all,

It looks like devicekit-disks, which apparently will be a new external
dep, requires gudev, which can be found as an extra starting from udev
143, Slackware 13 is on 141. I've tried to compile it separately but no
luck, so, question is, do we upgrade udev or leave it off?

Best Wishes,

My opinion is, lets try to use slackwares udev, if no luck and
something is hardly complaining about devicekit-disks then we upgrade
the whole thingy.

Lets track out which gnome sources will want to use this stuff and put
up a page on the wiki so if we need to upgrade udev we have already
the stuff worked out and will be a simple matter of rebuild the right
packages.

Hello Saxa,

I've tried to build it, by downloading the newer source and just
building gudev but I had no success. It seems it was distributed
separately before but I can't seem to find it. Only place I found the
source was within the newer udev's source package. I am unsure on how
devicekit-disks is *really* needed as far as GNOME functionality goes so
we can probably go without that one unless someone has a different
understanding.

Can anyone think up of a solid reason for us to include devicekit-disk
even though we might have to upgrade the Slackware's udev package just
for that? Please speak up.

Best Wishesm

First thing, lets try to build the stuff in the correct order. Correct
order will be done by building gnome packages and see what sources
require what. Its ok if we have the external deps sorted out, but lets
build a clean and well done gnome this time. We can do that by using
the old build order from 2.26 and verifying that each source has the
right position on the compile-order list. This will also help us if we
want to rebuild it for some reason on some other ARCH by simply issue
the ./buildall.sh .

If we have not a need for DeviceKit-disks now, lets leave it out up to
when a source will require it.

This is also the reason why we have the ALPHA, BETA and RC releases.
It doesnt mean we need to build the thing in the first shot correctly.
Let me explain how I see those stages:

- ALPHA: is when we have all the packages built up from gnome.org and
we have an installer ready.
- BETA: is where we will sort out and fix all of the missing packages,
functionalities, and the correct install order.
- RC: is when we can announce the Desktop to be ready for a bigger
number of users and fix the needed bugs. We dont fix here gnome.org
bugs, unless somebody want to do that by himself its free to do it and
create patches.
