If you want to have a peek at my work on directtcp, see:

It will be frequently rebased, so don't try to build anything
significant on top of it.

If other folks on amanda-hackers want to hear more about this
DirectTCP stuff, let me know.  Technical interest seems to be low here
of late, so we haven't said anything yet.
