I tried to fit it all into the subject, but to expand -

Im trying to work out how close i can fit some components on a MOTM style
module, and need to know the distance from the centers to the inner edge on
the metal rails people commonly use for the Oakely and MOTM systems.

I know there are wooden cabinates about too, but im just interested in the
metal rails for now.

This site -

http://dragonflyalley.com/infoFacePlateDesign.htm

seems to suggest 0.4 inches.

http://www.wiseguysynth.com/larry/flatrail/flatrail.htm

doesnt give the measurement im after.

Neither does Paul's site -

http://www.synthtech.com/testcart/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=67&products_id=181

Does anyone know for certian?

I dont suppose anyone in the EU has any spare that they want to get rid of
either, do they? : )

Thanks, Julian

I think the distance will vary with the size of the component you're
trying to mount. For example, you can mount jacks a little closer than
pots, simply because they're physically smaller. You need to measure
the open space between the mounting rails and the size of the
component and draw the whole thing out. Don't forget to leave room for
solder tabs and the wires that will attach to them. I like to make a
general grid and stick to that for visual consistency, but of course
there will always be one module that requires you to "break the rules"
of your grid. Make full scale mock ups with paper and panel parts, or
draw the whole thing out in a program like AutoCAD.

Go to www.synthtech.com, click on the Technical tag, then the Drawings/BOM
link. Scroll down, there are 2 PDF files you need: the MOTM-440 front panel
and the MOTM-19A rails drawing. You can then see what the spacing is
(requires 1 subtraction and 1 division on the calculator). :)

Wow, those are some handsome drawings.

;-)
