Do I have to zero-out an output audio port?

Suppose I have an output audio port in JACK.  When JACK calls my process(), I
decide that I want to output only silence.  Do I have to fill the output buffer
with zeros?  Does jack pre-silence the buffers?

I think the answers are "Yes" and "No" -- but I wanted to check.

Thanks,
Gabriel
