Dog food and panoramas (new Flash panorama viewer!)OK, so it's not _quite_ new, but it might as well be. :-)
PanoSalado has been through many revisions, and is now world-class (if not bullet proof ;) ). What is it? The only open source Flash panorama player on the, er, market. "Open source" is often times a synonym for "free", no?. :) Panosalado is being 'dogfooded' by myself, over at cheathamlane.net (links below), and should be visible in a couple of my client projects sometime soon (cool!). Much more info is available at the PanoSalado blog, and of course posts in the flashpanos.com forums or comments in the blog are always welcome. PanoSalado code and examples are available for download from its GoogleCode home, either via direct download or SVN. PanoSalado's image quality and potential for interactivity (some DIY, much coming soon for the non-scripter) is unparalleled. Really. ENJOY! Cheers, Patrick Blog (with links to forum, svn, etc): http://flashpanos.com/blog/79 Example: http://www.cheathamlane.net/index.php?section=open%20source |

Re: Dog food and panoramas (new Flash panorama viewer!)Patrick,
Is it deliberate that the full-screen display no longer responds to the zoom and pan options (and auto-rotate) but only inherts what had been selected when in the partial-screen mode? This is what I get with dual-core XP-pro and Opera 9. Roger W. Yeah, sure -- as soon as you get me a Flash 10 that isn't beta. :) -- Like I have mentioned before: things like "shimmer" and "waviness" are all parameters. You can make it as straight as you want, by adjusting parameters in the XML or Actionscript -- but at a performance deficit (just like all the Flash panorama viewers out there). |

Re: Re: Dog food and panoramas (new Flash panorama viewer!)yeah i checked a lot of that out before i posted back. ;)

> > yeah i checked a lot of that out before i posted back. ;) Michael: I'm not really sure what part of which post you're talking about, but... I can't promise to support beta software (Flash 10), just like I can't support Flash 8, with PanoSalado. I'm developing for Flash 10, sure, but it's useless to whale on it publicly while Flash 10's still in beta. All the Flash panorama viewers, PanoSalado included, will experience degraded performance the higher you set the precision and regularity. Some more than others. That said, I haven't had any issues at all running PanoSalado on my Win and Mac macines in Flash 10, in various browsers. If you have specific examples with PanoSalado, I'd like to see them... As long as they're not Flash 10 specific, right now. Feel free to post issues in the forums at flashpanos.com, or in the comments at the PanoSalado blog, or even better, in the "issues" area at the GoogleCode site for PanoSalado. Cheers, Patrick |

Hi Roger: Of course it's deliberate! ;-P Opera's weird... but thanks for posting your experience. I'll put that on my list of things to check out. What exactly do you mean by "inherits what had been selected..."? Thanks! Patrick |

Re: Re: Dog food and panoramas (new Flash panorama viewer!)no criticism here, just acknowledging the usual limits of flash 9
etc. it looks as good or better than the rest and all i was saying is i checked out the shimmer and wavy settings as i like to call them ;) and they seemed to work as expected in just a few seconds of playing. mmm On 24 Jul 2008, at 22:49, Patrick Cheatham wrote: > > --- In PanoToolsNG@..., aiwetir <aiwetir@...> wrote: >> >> yeah i checked a lot of that out before i posted back. ;) > > Michael: > > I'm not really sure what part of which post you're talking about, > but... Actually it's everything ELSE that's weird. The way the Opera people tell it. <BG> > What exactly do you mean by "inherits what had been selected..."? I mean inherits in the sense of takes on the qualities of. I checked all the options that were available and the settings were all trasferred to the full-screen view (and I did note that the auto rotation reverted quickly to the horizontal view, not retaining any angle up or down that I had set in the smaller window where the controls work). Very good to hear! Would you (or someone else) create a small page on the Wiki? PanoSalado is listed on http://wiki.panotools.org/Panorama_Viewers#Free_3 but does not have a dedicated page yet... best regards Erik Krause http://www.erik-krause.de Erik Krause

PangeaVR controlbar can be removed just use false for controlbar. Not sure about the info link in DevalVR. As far as I remember you can also exchange the loading splash for PangeaVR. From a business sense, why would I present my work through a panorama viewer that also promoted the website and services of another vr photographer? The "firing squad" in this case, would be non-use of such a viewer. |
