Drums, drums, drums......drums.

I need help with the production of drums. I am very much a novice in the
wonderful world of IDM production (although at the moment none of my music
is strictly IDM). At the moment I am using ultrabeat, I have some very nice
drum sounds but I really want to vary up my beats. I want to create a kind
of break beat feel and what I am having problems with is developing a good
breakbeat feel, such as that created by The Flashbulb. So...I would like
some suggestions, if possible, on....

ultrabeat)

roll, you here them regularly in breakbeat music, a popular example is Aphex
Twin's - 4, the drum sounds at the beginning, it sounds like a pitch bend on
a bunch of drums, but is there an easy way to create this.

Any help would be HUGELY appreciated. Thank you.

You want to use sampled breakbeats and pitch them up.  I'm thinking, in
particular you might be interested in checking out breaks like Amen,
Think, Paris, Apache, Hot Pants, Mule, etc...  The basics.

Please don't bother with 5/4 until you're quite proficient with writing
more basic drum patterns.

I believe what you are referring to is a "Snare Rush" or something to
that effect.  This is generally achieved through "retriggering" your
sample.  Figure out how to do that in your program and you'll get the
idea.
