For shopping cart I find good module as ubercart.
But problem is that this ubercart 6 module is not supported in PHP4.

And it's hard to upgrade our server from php4 to php5. It may problem

So anyone can help me give alternative solution,to use shopping cart + drupal 6.
> --Andrew

Back when I was using externals, I had the modules we were external-ing cloned
into a local SVN repo. To wit:

/svn/drupalcone
  /modules
    /views
      /6.x-2.4
      /6.x-2.5
    /cck
      /6.x-2.1
      /6.x-2.2

And then in my "new install image" directory, I had svn:external directives to
the versions we wanted to use. Then when there was a new version of one of
those modules, I'd add it to our repository, update the svn:external
directive, and then re-export the base image into each of our in-development
projects.

Turns out, though, that was a ridiculous amount of work. :-) Plus I'd always
be forgetting the right commands or paths or whatever because I'd only use
them every so often.

That's why I eventually threw that out and switched to all-drush. It's just
easier to let each project's svn repo be totally independent and do all
updating through Drush. It also means that the onus is not on me to update
our base image every time there's a new release, which makes life easier for
both me and the rest of our dev team that doesn't have to wait on my slow-arse
self before they can update something. :-)
I have used Hostgator and had to switch. After researching other hosting
companies, I ended up with Webhostingpad. I was running into the php
memory limit and needed more in order to run a custom module.

I altered my HG php settings and still had my problem. After contacting
support, I was told that in no way could the memory limit be raised above
the maximum (64M) allowed without moving to a dedicated server.

I have to admit Hostgator's support is great. They responded to my issues
quickly and were very professional. While I had to move to Webhostingpad
because of the PHP memory limit, the support isn't as good as Hostgator.

If you are not worried about the php memory limit, I highly recommend
Hostgator. If you need more than the 64M memory limit, Webhostingpad is a
good option.

For instance, I tick the check box with caption 'collect during registrtaion'. After I click save configuration, the option is not checked anymore. Please let me know if I miss any step. Thanks. My drupal is setup in windows XP with XAMPP setup. Appreciate your help.

Yes this is totally possible with Location module. You can do more using
gmap and views to display users on a map.

> I downloaded and enabled location module, but not sure
> where and how should I add this fields to profile setup. Any help is

I use `cvs update -dP` to get the latest changes from drupal.org's CVS. Then I `svn add ...` and `svn rm ...` as needed. It's not so bad.

I treat Drupal core as a vendor branch. I could do so with each module I use as well, but that just seems not worth the effort.

Finally, I use svn:externals. So that when I'm working on multiple web sites I can make a patch to core or a module just once, and each website will get that change when I `svn update`.

Combining CVS and svn this way is a little tricky, but comes in handy, too.

Possibly. Or svn ignore. Unfortunately as far as I know you can't set a
server-wide ignore list, so I've never bothered to set it up for all of our
developers. (Some may have done it themselves. I'm not sure.) For my part I
do nearly everything from the Linux command line ssh'ed into the dev server,
so it's rarely an issue for me. :-)
> > SVN isn't quite as bad for this as you make it out to be. :-) You can
> > do:
> >
> > svn add --force sites/all/modules
> >
> > That's actually my usual workflow at this point. Drush dl to grab new
> > modules, drush update to update a module, followed by the svn command
> > above and then commit. It doesn't handle file deletes or major file
> > reorganization, but those are quite rare.
> >
> > And I almost never check out a module straight from CVS. If I want a dev
> > version, you can tell Drush to get that for you.

1. If you are using pathauto, or url names that are more legible than
node/47 etc. then you should also get better theme template suggestions.
Make sure that you are linking to the page by its human-name, not its ID
number.

Some possible other solutions:

2. User devel to find the $node->type variable, and populate that in one
of your div tags id or class name at a high enough level, that you can
then detect and then theme just that page (or group of pages by type),
this would be done in your main page.tpl.php [and then you don't even
> */How do I theme a page based on content type?/*
> I’ve got a site with a few different custom pages and separate .tpl.php
> files for their custom layouts and CSS/XHTML. The “Blog” page is a View
> with a list of teasers. How do I create a custom .tpl.php file that
> only targets the “page” (and layout) that the individual/full blog
> entries are displayed on?
>
>
>
> The Theme Developer list these as the candidate files:
> *page-node-#.tpl.php *<* **page-node.tpl.php *<* **page.tpl.php. *
>
>
> But I don’t want to use “page.tpl.php” as its too broad in its reach and
> I may decide to add other pages non-blog pages in the future.
> I’ve tried “page-blog.tpl.php” – but it broke my layout. I still have
> some unresolved CSS/XHTML issues, so I’m wondering if
> “page-blog.tpl.php” is the correct naming convention, but I just have
> a few bugs in my code to work out?
> /A second (less important) question: /
>
> Keeping track of all those .tpl.php files is getting confusing! The
> Views pages are easy (“page-blog.tpl.php” or “page-work.tpl.php” for
> example), but Theme Developer is telling me that for all pages using the
> “page” content type, that I have to style them by their ID
> (“page-node-1.tpl.php” for the “about” page). Is there any way to name
> a .tpl.php file for a page content type in a more semantic/meaningful way?
>
>
>
> Such as “page-contact.tpl.php” instead of “page-node-392.tpl.php”

Hello Themers!

How do I theme a page based on content type?
I’ve got a site with a few different custom pages and separate .tpl.php
files for their custom layouts and CSS/XHTML. The “Blog” page
is a View with a list of teasers. How do I create a custom .tpl.php file
that only targets the “page” (and layout) that the individual/full blog
entries are displayed on?

The Theme Developer list these as the candidate files:
page-node-#.tpl.php < page-node.tpl.php < page.tpl.php.

But I don’t want to use “page.tpl.php” as
its too broad in its reach and I may decide to add other pages non-blog
pages in the future.

I’ve tried “page-blog.tpl.php” – but
it broke my layout. I still have some unresolved CSS/XHTML issues, so I’m
wondering if “page-blog.tpl.php” is the correct naming
convention, but I just have a few bugs in my code to work out?

A second (less important) question:

Keeping track of all those .tpl.php files is getting
confusing! The Views pages are easy
(“page-blog.tpl.php” or “page-work.tpl.php”
for example), but Theme Developer is telling me that for all pages using the “page”
content type, that I have to style them by their ID
(“page-node-1.tpl.php” for the “about” page). Is
there any way to name a .tpl.php file for a page content type in a more
semantic/meaningful way?

Such as “page-contact.tpl.php” instead of
“page-node-392.tpl.php”

Thanks!

> I have had my own bad experiences in the Drupal industry. The worst
> probably being sub-contracted by a company on the West Coast of the US.
> Involved attacking me personally in front of a non-profit client and
> threats of law suits both from me and them. Frivolous claims such as
> such as taking me to court for bad code, bug fixing, and hurting their
> business, (this despite the standard GPL clause), it was all a ruse in
> order to keep from paying me which was mainly due to the client running
> out of funds, and them deciding that I should be the one who should bear
> the weight for that. I settled with the for 1/5 of what I owed as at the
> time I was not inclined to go to court and the facts were not very clear
> on paper, i.e. lack of a solid contract, and it would make quite a bit
> more of a mess then I particularly wanted to at the time.
>
> Lesson learned from all of my experiences thus far to help the
> community:
>
> 1) Never work without a contract, have a nice detailed disclaimer on
> your contract to make clear what you will or will not do.
> 2) Refuse to do any work if there is no contract (and do not feel any
> obligation to do anything), even if continuing a relationship.
> 3) Ask for a good portion of the contract up front.
> 4) If the company (SMEs only) is loaded with managers or people who are
> the owners of the company and can't code worth shit, GTFO, as they are
> simply adding cost for their dead weight... Further they are getting in
> the way of communication with the client. In the end, this means that
> they may get the specs wrong and blame you for the results, both
> personally and in the eyes of the client. Unless you feel particularly
> that they are adding something that you cannot add.
> 5) If the people involved are particularly good at debate, don't expect
> to get anything done, and simply take them to small claims court with
> the contract in hand. Do not attempt to argue with them any further, as
> its a waste of time. They will make up all sorts of assertions and lies
> and confound progress and might even try to get you in trouble with the
> law, etc. Further, in court do not attempt to debate them, simply
> present the facts, call attention to the fact that they are good at
> debate, and that they are good at distorting the fact because of it.
> 6) If you wish to expose someone, simply do it, threatening to do it can
> get you in more trouble.
> 7) If the company is filled with incompetent people who like to bill
> hours for arbitrary things, sooner or later you are going to get
> screwed. If it sounds too good to be true, it is.
> 8) Work directly with clients, never be sub-contracted (unless perhaps
> by IBM or another big brand), as that's a way to add costs to your
> clients, and potentially puts you at significantly greater risk than
> working with clients. Considering how expensive IT projects can get with
> even a single person, adding more dead weight to the mix is asking for
> trouble.
> 9) If you give a solid estimate, then make a contract that says
> explicitly what that involves, and then refuse to do any more work.
> Needless to say this is going to lead to frustration both from you and
> the client, and so either don't go down this path or explain to the
> client that this is the case and that they are likely to be frustrated
> in the future -- do this diplomatically.
> 10) Bill on time, and if you don't get paid refuse to do any more work.
> 11) There are plenty of douche bags everywhere, and people who think
> they are managers are particularly good douche bags.
> 12) Look out for yourself, and never expect anyone is looking out for
> you. This goes for any and all employees, and people participating in
> our economic system.
>
> If you have any lessons, please be free to share them too.
>
I agree. If there is to be an installation as the final result, I
require payment prior to that. I used to have the project paid 90% at
the time of installation, and accept the final 10% upon installation,
but that became too risky, and also the installation can be delayed
indefinitely completely out of my control.

I prefer time payments. I used to go with milestone payments, because of
the psychology of the client preferring a trigger that they could get
their arms around. The problem was that if the milestone was delayed,
the finances flip-flopped to where there was unpaid activity occurring,
and if the milestones needed to be rearranged midstream due to business
or other changes, getting the financial terms changed to reflect it was
often challenging. With timed payments, it's more straight-forward
keeping the revenue stream ahead of the expenses. Just make sure to
clarify in bold underlined print, or the equivalent, that the payments
are due ON those dates, not those dates plus 4 weeks of accounts-payable
shenanigans.

Hi I'm new to Drupal. I would like to add address fields(Street, city, State,
Country) to profile setup. Is it possible to use Location module to acheive
this functionality.

Yes this is totally possible with Location module. You can do more using gmap and views to display users on a map.

I downloaded and enabled location module, but not sure
where and how should I add this fields to profile setup. Any help is
appreciated. Thanks.

> not so with Drupal core. Though Drush can download a fresh non CVS install
> of Drupal, It isn't able to upgrade Drupal core. So it seems like it still
> makes sense to not use Drush for downloading Drupal core, but stick to CVS
> for ease of upgrade. Can anyone confirm that is correct?
> >
> > And I almost never check out a module straight from CVS. If I want a dev

The subversion way of doing this is to maintain two separate trees, one is the subversion repository and the other is the "vendor drop" (i.e. the latest version of Drupal core/contrib/whatever), kept in your file system.
Each time you have updated your Drupal files (from cvs or using drush) you run the script: svn_load_dirs.pl
(see http://svnbook.red-bean.com/nightly/en/svn.advanced.vendorbr.html#svn.advanced.vendorbr.svn_load_dirs)
This will update your svn repository copy from your local drupal files, but what is important is that it will preserve the correct history in the svn repository so you can see what the changes are. It manages new files, orphans, and actually lets you tell it about renamed files.
You can then update your website from the repository. If you need to roll it back, all the svn goodness is available to you.
--Andrew

On Tue, Nov 24, 2009 at 6:19 PM, Shai Gluskin <shai@...> wrote:
Though Drush can download a fresh non CVS install of Drupal, It isn't able to upgrade Drupal core. So it seems like it still makes sense to not use Drush for downloading Drupal core, but stick to CVS for ease of upgrade. Can anyone confirm that is correct?

svn add --force sites/all/modules

and it will recursively add any files under that directory that it doesn't already know about. Be careful of ._ files and similar crap that OS X may create. :-)

That's actually my usual workflow at this point. Drush dl to grab new modules, drush update to update a module, followed by the svn command above and then commit. It doesn't handle file deletes or major file reorganization, but those are quite rare.

And I almost never check out a module straight from CVS. If I want a dev version, you can tell Drush to get that for you.
I get modules from d.o. from CVS, then I commit them to my own repository with SVN.

When updating modules I've doing SVN del, CVS co, SVN add instead of simply CVS up because of orphaned and new files. SVN freaks out over orphans and the new files are just a pain since you need to SVN add for each one.

But I just installed Drush and I'm so excited about making all this easy. So I'm motivated to finally ask for help around this.
So if you commit CVS versions of contrib to SVN, what is your method for dealing with orphans and new files?
Hi,

I am using imagecache for my user profile page, when i update image with a new image imagecache doesn't rename the image file name but successfully update the image on the server. Browser cached the image and shows the old image upon refresh, I wanted to ask if I can programmatically get around this problem?

have u had problems with stale image showing even after updating the image with new one? Any ways to get around it?

Cheers

Dipen
