You are correct in that a connection being present in library and also in design file means 2 connections are spawned. If you check what is happening on those connections, the library needs are from the library and the design needs from the design file.

Now, on the single one not closing, I found that when there is an error in execution, BIRT does not close the connection. I also remember that were I to click cancel during execution that process does not stop but BIRT does end up closing the connection. However, if I clicked cancel and then retried, then one of those 2 connections would not be closed.

Those were my observations of closing connections.

The connection remaining open after error was very reproducible.

Hello,

I use a cross tab in my report. The data are retrieved from a scripted data source.
When I run the report the query runs 3 times. With the same data. The problem is the execution time of the query which is half an hour, roughly. Or 1.5 hours because it runs 3 times.

Why does it run 3 times? Can I dissuade birt from doing it?

Image with URI type and export in PDF

Hi all,
I'm new in developing with Birt's API ..so I need your help for solve my problem.

At the moment, I'm able to create image with URL source type (the url links my application that integrates BirtEngine; ie. Default Path to Run .rptdesign file

I've been using the 2.3.1 Birt version and I kept all .rptdesign files out of the root birt folder in Tomcat.
Now i updated to the new version 2.5 and the reports doesn't work. I think it's because they don't were in this folder.
So, now the reports only will run into the birt root folder under the tomcat?

Here is my problem :

I'm using Birt Report Engine API in order to generate some documents, as pdf reports ... and also emails.
Indeed, i let the API handle the emails design.

The process includes a html document generation by Birt, and a second stage where Javamail (via Commons email) send the data generated in a formatted mail.

I recently switch Birt Api version : 2.1 to 2.5. And the problem came : final encoding of my mails has changed, and I got some compatibility issue with Outlook.

Here was the previous encoding :

Content-Type: text/html; charset=us-ascii
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit

Here it is now :

Content-Type: text/html; charset=utf-8
Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable

I also noticed that html content generated by Birt has changed : previously , specials characters was translate to html entities. Now (with 2.5 version), no more.

Previously :

BIRT real-time template creation

I'm developing an application using Java (JSP) and BIRT. I'm just discovering the potential of BIRT and I'm a rookie. I wasn't able to find in BIRT a feature I really need for this project. So, the question is... is it possible in BIRT to create real-time template reports with real data? I will try to explain it better... In my project I should give the user the chance to generate a set of predefined reports based on data in a DB... but as an additional requirement, the application should be able to allow the user to draw is own template and use it to generate reports with the data in the DB. Is it possible to do it with BIRT?? Is it offering such real time GUI experience? If not, could you advise me another product (also commercial) that is having this feature??

Integrate a Custom Oda Driver in a Java Program?

Hello,

i programmed a ODA Driver and want integrate it in a Java program.

There is a great example to use the JDBC-Oda Driver in a Java class:
Java_-_Build_Dynamic_Table_%28BIRT%29

For my training, i would like to integrate the google_oda_driver:
(in order to know how to do it with my oda driver)

Here you can download the google oda driver:
download google-spreadsheet-oda_1.0.0.zip

The both jar files (runtime and ui) i copied to the eclipse\plugins folder.

And I changed the methods buildDataSource() and buildDataSets() class DECreateDynamicTable following:

CopyOfDECreateDynamicTable.java

Now, when i run the program, i get a java.lang.NullPointerException:

at Demo.CopyOfDECreateDynamicTable.buildDataSet(CopyOfDECreateDynamicTable.java:82)

Thank you for your quick response, but actually i haven't integrated the Birt Runtime into a Java application.

I'm just using batch or shell to launch a Java command on the Report Engine.

I think i will use the \birt-runtime-2_3_0\ReportEngine folder which is the default resource folder.

ResourceLocators are good, but may be overkill for this. If you just need a
base location for resources you can:

I have already find how to set a resource folder for the Birt Viewer or the Designer, but not for the Report Engine.

Without this setting, the rep \birt-runtime-2_3_0\ReportEngine is the resource folder but i want to change it.

Does anyone know how to configure the resource folder for the Report Engine?

I have massive data processing requirements that means a report can take 10 minutes to complete, or even longer. What I would like to do is point a dummy application at the BIRT report, make the call, then save the result to disk on the server side. Apply page break Interval setting through property editor to your report layout that might be help you to reduce the size of your pdf report .

Dataset Creation problem

Hi all,
I'm facing a problem while creating dataset in BIRT2.1 by calling procedure,the procedure contains 1IN & 1OUT refcursor parameter & after calling this procedure with parameters its showing the error like
SQL Statement doesnot return Resultset object.
I'm using the jdbc data source for connection having connection parameters as:
Driver Class: oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver ( v10.2)
Database URL: jdbc:OSracle:thin:@<IP address>:<servicename>
Data source connection is successful.but data set is not at all generating from procedure.
Can antbody suggest me how to do that?

Is there a way to reduce the size of the pdf report that BIRt generates? I tried to generate a report with around 400 records that spans across 25 pages (with a logo in each page). The generated report size was around 300K where as a similar report generated in Jasper report and crystal consumed only 80K. Is this a bug or do I need to tune some settings?

permgen space error

I am using BIRT reporting tool with eclipse but when i try to generate a report it is giving me "permgen space error".

I have already changed the heap size and all possible memory configurations but same error is coming still.

Eclipse Platform Version: 3.4.2
Birt version 2.3.2

Sigma symbol used in report header replaced by question mark (?)

I am generating pdf using birt report design file, the isssue is sigma symbol (Σ) getting converted to question mark. Generated Design file contains Sigma symbol (Σ) properly

if anybody knows what is the issue with sigma symbol, please let me know
