Eclipse hangs at "Getting remote project info"

I can browse my repos and I can check them out with the command line
client, but when I try to check out with Subclipse I get the permanent
hang.
I found this in the archives from a couple of years ago:

Was a stable resolution found?

You are probably hitting this bug that effects Linux users:

The workaround in the FAQ should fix it.
