Hi,

togwegraphcontroller.properties file in configuration you use (in your case Shark configuration) is the place where you have to edit properties for the graph's component display settings.
In togwebasic.properties file there are also several properties to define FONT and L&F for the whole application.

In JaWE 1.4 there was a nice configuration dialog where fonts, colors and sized could be set up.
It controled the setings files in .JaWE directory.

In version 2 it changed.

With JaWE 3.0 beeing now a fully open system (no interruption screens for pro version):

In Jawe 3, how can I change display settings - e.g., turn off the grid, increase the font or box size ?

(I use Shark config settings)
(I tried changing config\shark\jaweconfiguration.properties or other files there with no luck)
(could the old config dialog from version 1.4 come back in v3.1...)

It's the BEST example because it was not open source at the begginig and it was developed to be a commercial product. But just some weeks after the first release I discontinued it and I published the source... And I didn''t waste more time, effort and money to work on it. Now, after the JaWE 3.0 release, I take the right decission in the right moment.

And now I develop commercial projects on truly open source projects. Not Shark nor JaWE :).

It adds some additional nice features:
* audit/visualize/reproduce step by step and graphically the history of a process,
* reports based on SQL which could be called from your favourite reporting tool (CrystaReports, JasperResports,...)
* ...

YAPROC isn't too much popular but each month around 5-10 different people download the sources. Most of the from the USA.

Those folks could write a new version giving workflow support based on Shark/JaWE to the rest of Eclipse plugins. I think it would be really nice. But now, I think they could be discouraged due the new Jawe 3.0 GPL license.

PS: In the lastest JaWE's change log you can see more "chess" movements: the API for Shark has been dropped from the Open Source version. I think people don't understand what really it means. I'll explain it to them: a big stone on the way between Shark and JaWe integration.

"Playing chess" means every major release (1.x,2.x,3.x) of Jawe and Shark
introduces changes to impede and difficult commercial 3rd party tools build on
them.

You see,

JaWe 1.x -> GPL
Shark 1.x -> GPL
----------------------------------
Jawe 2.x-> LGPL (Good!)
Shark 2.x -> LGPL (Good!)

At this point, a commercial branch is started by Together-> Hard difficulties
begun to integrate JAWE into Shark to build a Professional alternative. You can
read them on the forum.
But writing enough good challenger alternatives to Together's Professional
version is still possible with a lot of effort.You can see some of them
searching on the Internet. -> How to avoid them?

JaWe 3.x -> GPL -> Avoids using it commercially -> No more commercial
challengers. Yes, you gain a cookie! You think you are winning because some
additional stuff functionality has been included, but you are loosing because
nobody will seriously try to improve Shark (nor JaWE).
Shark 3.x -> ??? No matters, because without JaWE... it's no-dangerous. I
guess it'll remain LGPL.

I think they are playing chess because they give you a Tower but you lost the
Queen.

IMHO, GPL is the bad license for Open Source's success.

Hi,

as initiator of the JPEd fork, I would like to congratulate Sasa for the
step to make JaWE fully available again. I started JPEd as an appendix
on the WfMOpen site (http://wfmopen.sf.net) because I was very annoyed
that the possibility to maintain our XPDL files -- including the layout
-- had gone away. I have always felt that the fork proofed one of the
concepts of Open Source, because it took only a rather small effort to
regain the control over a software that we needed and that we had
invested in, although the original authors had decided to go commercial
(though denied by Together AT, I still consider it rather obvious that
it was all about collecting license fees after having gained some
popularity).

While JPEd in its initial, JaWE-close version, satisfied our needs,
David Delbecq required additional features. So I transfered JPEd to an
SF project of its own. All credit for the further development and the
really nice home page goes to him.

When I built JPEd based on the JaWE sources, I changed the license from
LGPL to GPL (From LGPL 2.1: "You may opt to apply the terms of the
ordinary GNU General Public License instead of this License to a given
copy of the Library."). I have always felt that the GPL is more
appropriate for a tool (I'm not talking about libraries here!).

When Sasa decided to include features from JPEd in the new version of
JaWE, he therefore had no choice but to use the GPL, because the change
from LGPL to GPL cannot be reversed.

Of course, I don't know about Sasa's motivation. Maybe he is "playing
chess again" (as Pablo Beltran assumes) and I haven't found out yet what
he's aiming at. But for now I simply assume that JaWE licenses haven't
proofed as successful as anticipated. So integrating the JPEd features
and thus making JaWE a stronger tool puts him in a better position to
sell support for JaWE. But this is pure speculation from my side.

Personally, I feel very happy about having a JaWE (or TWE) with bundled
additional features from two development branches fully available again.
(Of course, learning from experience, I have downloaded the sources
immediately.) My sympathy with "People who wrote a commercial
application based on 2.x (LPGL)" (cited from Pablo Beltran's mail) is
very limited. If the add-on is really substantial and worth it, the
author should improve the GPL'ed version to support plugin functions as
required by the commercial feature and provide the commercial feature as
plugin. Nothing from the GPL prevents that. And if it is only a minor
feature not worth this effort, why should the author profit from the
work freely provided by others? (By the way, does anybody know the
commercial version referred to? Neither googling for "TWE based" nor for
"JaWE based" resulted in significant hits...)

With a "little" difference between the new version and the previous: Newer is GPL which means people who wrote a commercial application based on 2.x (LPGL) will open their sources if they want to use 3.x version.

JaWE is fully compatible with XPDL version 1.0. It does not support 2.x
version.

Background:

I am leading an IT Project to develop a new application for MN DOT (a not-for-profit government agency of the State of Minnesota) called IAS (Independent Assurance System) that is a more-or-less ordinary, small web-based app. See atch ERD (PDF).

I have completed developing (using LAMP - Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) a very simple "Proof-Of-Concept" (POC) version of the first two iterations/increments of IAS, and our customers want an integrated Workflow System: A workflow engine to allow Workflow functions to be part of IAS, plus a GUI Workflow editor (preferably separate) to define and maintain the workflow components. I am interested in the approach that would use a GUI XPDL editor like Together, which I found as Enhydra JaWE http://www.enhydra.org/workflow/jawe/index.html before it linked to your WWW site, and before that I found JPEd http://www.jped.org/

====> I found the free/community version of the Editor and Server, but the Server at least on Windows is "nagware". Can we actually use it in production (on a Linux Server), and if yes, how do we shut off the nag window? Would there be a license fee for MN DOT?

====> We want to "fully integrate" the Workflow Engine running our XPDL Workflow on the same server (computer) as the IAS Web Server (Apache with PHP and/or J2EE and JBoss), so that (a) an Action a User takes on one of our web pages (e.g. they click an HTML link or push a button) causes the Workflow Server to recognize the Action and process it according to the current Workflow, and (b) a Step in a Workflow will e.g. present a specific IAS web page with some variables already loaded, or the Workflow will directly read or write the IAS database.

Note: Eventually, the IAS database will be in Oracle, so I will need to learn how to replace MySQL with Oracle in all the above, but I thought it would be easier with MySQL. If you think it's easier with Oracle, let's just move to Oracle now. I design and work with Oracle databases and connections a lot, so I shouldn't have too much trouble doing this part. In fact, I designed and verified the Data Model (see atch ERD) using Oracle Designer, and I have already generated the Oracle DDL (SQL) scripts, used them to build the running Oracle instance, and edited them to run likewise under LAMP and thereby built the matching MySQL database. Both databases are working perfectly.

Our request:

====> Please point us to the recommended method of installing and integrating the Workflow Server Community Edition in our environment. Would you use JBoss? Why or why not? For the recommended method, please point us to all the files (software and documentation) we should use.

If this information is clearly available on one of your WWW sites, I am sorry I missed it, and please point it out to me. If it is not, you may want to make it more clearly available.

Finally, as we learn more and want to make enhancement requests or other improvement suggestions, documentation help, bug reports, etc., where do we submit those?

Sorry for waste your time.

Finally I've found the error and it's not related with JaWe.

JaWe couldn't paint because another used component (http://www.eclipse.org/articles/article.php?file=Article-Swing-SWT-Integration/index.html) which is targeted to integrate Swing applications into Eclipse is not 100% well written.

I've corrected the error in the 3rd party component and the plugin draws Jawe graphs very quick and fine wihout memory problems.

I've developed a Eclipse plugin with the same funcionality that Shark
Professional version. It implies that workflow process graphs are showed to
users. For this task I've embebed JaWE as process graph provider.

This meesage appears in the logs after showing many process graphs (in a stress
scenario):

This message is written by JaWE while the rest of the plugin works fine
(without memory problems).

Have you heard about this issue?

Briefly this are the steps that I've followed for use JaWE as graph provider:

* only one JaweManager, JaweControler, GraphControler is used.
* all the process graphs are cached->everytime that an user wants to to view a
process graph the plugin searchs it in the cache and if the pluging doesn't
find it then the plugin loads the package and caches al the processes inside
the package. Shark versions of packages are considered, therefore many versions
of a process graph can live in the same JaWe instance, but it's not the
problem and it works fine.

To achieved this, the plugin creates a new GraphControllerPanel per Graph. This
occurs because I want to give the zoom and scrollbars functionality. And really
the plugin caches GraphControllerPanel objects, not Graph objects directly. In
this manner, many instences of the graph can be viewed simultaneously at the
same time with zoom and scroll.

Surely Shark Professional and me have choosen diferent ways to implement this
funcionality. The only thing that I think what it can explain this problem not
previously detected in Shark Profesional is that Shark opens/closes JaWE while
my plugin maintains JaWE opened for a long time.

Could it be the source of the OutOfMemoryError?

In first, I cannot find any information about a webservice API for shark administration, does this exists ?

On the other hand, I got a problem with a complexType declaration from external reference (WSDL to be more precise) ...

I Tried to declare a new type, as external reference , with a location set to "http://gps.ducastel.info/service.php?wsdl", xref="GpsPosition" and namespace="http://gps.ducastel.info"

but as soon as i declare a new process variable in my workflow, its instanciation failed with "persisting of process variable failed"...
