Enter and Tab keys stop workingAny developments on this issue? After a while in Firefox on OS 10.4 my tab and enter keys stop working within the browser window. I can hit shift-enter, and that works. But there's no workaround for the tab key... It's super annoying to have to crash the browser, and hope that it retains the session with all your open tabs. Thanks. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Firebug" group. Re: Enter and Tab keys stop workingWhy do you think this is a Firebug problem? Check the issues list for similar reports: does it only happen in OS 10.4? Which version of Firebug? Re: Enter and Tab keys stop workingAnd when you say "this issue", what is the problem? Chuck says "tab and enter keys stop working within the browser window". So I guess that tab and enter stop doing something they did before: what is that something? Is the operation that stops related to Firebug? If yes, are there any errors in the jsconsole (Firefox->Tools- >ErrorConsole) just before the keys begin to fail or when pressed after they fail? Re: Enter and Tab keys stop workingI'll also confirm this issue which I'm pretty sure is caused by firebug because I've only experienced the problem since installing firebug a couple weeks ago. The problem occurs after some arbitrary amount of time and is evidenced by the tab key no longer working in Firefox (I've confirmed it continues to work in other applications) and the enter key no longer working (I'm experiencing the problem now and in order to enter new lines in this message have to hit shift-enter). Restarting Firefox solves the issue for a while. I'm using firebug 1.05 and Firefox 2.0.0.5 on OSX 10.4 -Jason On Dec 13, 8:48 am, John J Barton <johnjbar...@...> wrote: > And when you say "this issue", what is the problem? Re: Enter and Tab keys stop workingWhen the Enter and Tabs keys are working perfectly, what do they do for you? People keep saying they stop working but I don't know what they mean because I don't know what they expect the keys to do when they function properly. The only place I see VK_TAB and VK_RETURN is in the CommandLine code. Is that the use that you have for these keys? John. Re: Enter and Tab keys stop workingHere's waht ahppens whtn tab key stops working: If I'm in a textarea, I hit tab, nothing happens. The i-beam stays in the same place. location, search box, any form field - tab key doesn't work. once i switch apps, I can use tab. If I restart FF, I can use tab. Normally, the tab key should change focus to the next focusable element (inp, link, et c), to the search box, et c. I use firebug's large command line option - FWIW. Re: Enter and Tab keys stop workingSorry, apparently my reply post describing the issue didnt work... "the issue": after entering a url in the location bar, usually hitting enter will pull start page load request. When "the issue" occurs the enter key does nothing. same is also true for submitting forms, usually hitting enter will submit a form, when "the issue" occurs enter will do nothing. hope this helps! like i said, i can not necessarily pin this on firebug... thanks! -tony On Dec 13, 11:48 am, John J Barton <johnjbar...@...> wrote: > And when you say "this issue", what is the problem? Re: Enter and Tab keys stop workingSomeone who has this problem could build a version of Firebug without the key handlers for tab and return to see if the problem goes away. Here's how: 1) Create a new profile for Firefox a) run firefox.exe -ProfileManager from your command line b) Create new, say you call it TabWorky start Firefox 2) Load firebug 1.1, http://fireclipse.xucia.com 3) Reproduce the problem. 4) Navigate to the firebug content in profile TabWorky, a)eg C:\Documents and Settings\John J. Barton\Application Data \Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\TabWorky b)cd extensions\firebug@...\chrome\ 5) Hack the jar file a) rename firebug.jar firebug.zip b) unzip firebug.zip c) edit content/firebug/bindings.xml d) remove the entire XML element <binding id="largeCommandLine" ... e) rezip f) rename firebug.zip firebug.jar 6) Try it. 7) Let us know. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Firebug" group. Re: Enter and Tab keys stop workingI've had this issue pop up from time to time. And it appears to be that the tab and enter key don't work for the ENTIRE firefox interface which makes me think it's not a firebug issue.. The biggest problem with this issue is that I have no idea how to REPRODUCE the problem. I've had this happen on OSX and Windows. If anyone knows of a way to reproduce the problem please let us know. I don't think it's firebug, though many believe this is a firebug issue: (Another firebug thread about the same issue: http://groups.google.com/group/firebug/browse_thread/thread/e5f99704e59eb0b2) P.S. If you use the top right search toolbar, you can google a site and still get around with out the enter key. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Firebug" group. I'm uncertain, but I believe that the key binding mechanism that Firebug uses modifies the entire Firefox UI. Another idea: open two windows. The next time the issue occurs, let us know if both windows fail or just one. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Firebug" group. Re: Enter and Tab keys stop workingI've been having issues with this for a long time here. Opening a new window (regardless of the platform I'm on OS X 10.5 or XP) will fix the problem in the new window but not the one currently open. Effects all tabs open in this window from that point forward in that window. I use firebug on both platforms and have been able to rule out most of the other extensions that I use as causing the problem. I couldn't say the same for firebug as i'm always using it. I can't ever reproduce the problem. It seems to happen out of the blue regardless of what I'm currently doing. The main times I notice it of course seem to be when I need to use the enter or tab keys, usually filling out a form. Any other information that you need let me know, it happens often to me... Re: Enter and Tab keys stop workingI love firebug, but I've been having this problem for a long long time now and it has become a huge problem. It's affecting my work. I have to fill out a lot of form fields every day in order to test and change UI. I'm afraid I'm going to have to remove firebug, which unfortunately is also a large part of my workflow, but it's too big of a pain to have to restart firefox all the time. If anyone knows anything else please let us know. Thanks. Firebug rocks. On Jan 4, 1:25 pm, billykiller2 <billykill...@...> wrote: > I've been having issues with this for a long time here. Re: Enter and Tab keys stop workingOn Jan 4, 1:41 pm, royhobbs <benmjor...@...> wrote: > If anyone knows > anything else please let us know. Open firefox. Immediately open a new window. Minimize one of them. When you have the problem, kill the problem window, go back to the minimized one, open a new window. This won't get fixed until 1.2. (Even then I don't know how to fix it yet.) Re: Enter and Tab keys stop workingJust wanted to follow-up and say I"ve been having this problem for a long time as well -- I haven't searched for this issue in a long time, but now it appears to be getting search results. I had this problem on Mac and Windows just the same. Enter + Tab stop working in forms, and I have to force quit the browser and re-open it to get my tabs going. Anyway, the benefit of the tool far exceeds this snag which, once fixed, will straighten the crown on Firebug's head. Re: Enter and Tab keys stop workingI've also had this problem, for many months now, in both XP and Vista. It only happens when firebug is enabled. It seems to happen most often when I have firebug open in 2 tabs at once. In fact, this may be the only time it happens, but I'm not positive. Shift+enter still works, but enter does not.
