Error accessing JIRA outside my network

Hi, I am new to JIRA, and struggling to access my local JIRA server from outside my network. Here is a brief summary of my problem:

- Installed JIRA, no problem
- Linked to MySQL db, no problem
- Opened up my firewall so that PC’s on the local network can connect to JIRA, no problem
- Configured my router so that PC’s outside my network can access JIRA - this is where I'm stuck

A PC from outside my network can access the webserver, but before logging in, I get this error:

"Error loading gadget: org.apache.shindig.gadgets.GadgetException: Unable to retrieve gadget xml. HTTP error 504"

>From inside the network everything works perfectly. Only errors when connecting from the outside.

I checked on the forums and I see other people encountered a similar issue, but that was related to running JIRA over HTTPS and had to do with certificates. Also, the error stated HTTP error 500. Maybe its related?

Any tips? Thanks in advance!

ps: attached a screenshot of the error

had the same error myself, had to setup DNS so that we could use the same subdomain internally and externally. Then I changed the base URL under General Config in administration. Everything running smoothly inside and out

Hope this helps

Thanks - any info at the moment helps - I will read up on what you suggested and try it out. I use my pc's IP address to connect from the outside (its not static yet, but I'm still playing around). Not sure where to set up DNS - I'm not hosting a website, simply connecting to the physical pc (e.g. 41.243.40.186:8080).

OK, I have done the following now:

- I set up stdio.getmyip.com at dyndns.com
- this now points to 41.243.40.186 (see image1 attached)
- on my router, I enabled DNS (image2)
- in JIRA, under general config, I changed the base URL (image3)

I then connect to stdio.getmyip.com:8080 in my browser, but I still get the same error :(

Did I set up everything correctly?

I solved my problem. In addition to the dns and base url changes, I also had to change my etc/hosts file to direct my external ip to my localhost.

Thanks for your intial help Mike!
