Etoiles vmdkDoes anyone have instructions for how to use the Etoile image with VirtualBox?
I tried to use the image from the downloads page and got a lot of "Read-only filesystem" errors. Next I get the "failed to start X" blue screen followed by the etoile-dev login prompt. The file permissions errors relate to /var/log/..., /var/lib/..., etc. Thanks for any help, Justin _______________________________________________ Etoile-discuss mailing list Etoile-discuss@... https://mail.gna.org/listinfo/etoile-discuss |

Re: Etoiles vmdkHi Justin,
Hm.. I'm not sure what the problem is; I haven't seen any errors like that. The only requirements should be using fairly new VirtualBox version (I think I made the image with VBox 3.0), and importing it with File- >Import Appliance. I am using VBox 3.0.6 on OS X 10.6, and the image worked for me recently. What host OS / VirtualBox version do you have? Sorry I don't have any better ideas right now.. Re: Etoiles vmdkI'm using Virtual Box 3.0.6 r52128 on Mac OSX 10.5.7.
I'm just unzipping your file, creating a new virtual box and pointing the new virtual disk at the .vmdk file you provided. Is that all you do? Do I need to change permissions on any files? Re: Etoiles vmdkRather than create a new VM and setting the disk image, I think you
have to choose File->"Import Appliance" in VirtualBox, and select the .ovf file. You should get an "Appliance Import Wizard". You can accept the default settings, then there will be a progress bar which takes a few minutes to do the "import" (not sure what it is doing.. decompressing the image?) I will add a note to the website explaining this procedure :) -Eric On 2009-09-17, at 2:28 PM, Justin Lolofie wrote: > I'm using Virtual Box 3.0.6 r52128 on Mac OSX 10.5.7. > > I'm just unzipping your file, creating a new virtual box and pointing > the new virtual disk at the .vmdk file you provided. > > Is that all you do? Do I need to change permissions on any files? Yes, you need to have set read/write permissions on the virtual disk. Otherwise the drive will be read only.
