FCKEdit and accessibility

We've had 2 comments about accessibility problems with FCK edit.

1/ when page text is made large, the logos in FCK remains the same size.

2/ when page text is made large, the user entered text inside FCK remains
the same size.

Is anybody looking at this?

It's also interesting that tool tip 'help' doesn't increase in size (in FF2
and MSIE 6)

Adam -

Not sure if anyone within the Sakai community is working on accessibility in
FCK Editor. I just checked the FCK editor website
(http://www.fckeditor.net/), and I see that under their 'Roadmap' >>'Version
3.0 and the Future,' they list "Usability and Accessibility."

But, you got me curious to see if TinyMCE would pass the test. TinyMCE is
the editor that we adopted for Mneme - Test Center (because of its high
scores on accessibility), and the below works nicely on both Firefox and IE.
Phew!

Wouldn't it be great if it were trivial to switch editors!

You are both right; what we need at this point is for someone in the
community to take this on as a project. TinyMCE is the right choice for
an accessible text editor, but should be presented as an option, since
FCKeditor has been the Sakai default.

I thought Colin had posted a note a few months back about possible
ATRAC work at grant-funded accessibility enhancements to FCKEditor --
did that ever come to fruition?

Yes, I did mention awhile back that the ATRC has applied for a grant
to work on FCKEditor accessibility.

At the moment, we're still waiting on it. We heard to some positive
rumblings about it a few months ago, but haven't yet heard back about
final approval. My colleague, Greg Gay, and his team are certainly
enthusiastic about working on it, and a more accessible FCKEditor
would benefit us all. Hopefully we won't have to wait too much longer.

In the meantime, Mike's right to suggest that TinyMCE is the best
accessible alternative for a rich text editor.
