FW: re holidays for people with severe disabilities who need hoists etc

I have been forwarded your e-mail by a colleague in Shropshire Wheelchair and Posture Services who thought we might be able to assist.

Disabled Holiday Information is a charity staffed by awareness led volunteers and we provide free information about accessible activities, attractions and accommodation. All the accommodation we include has a base criteria of level or ramped access and wet-rooms or wheel-in showers.

Our website             http://www.disabledholidayinfo.org.uk/       has a UK wide accessible accommodation search on the top left hand side of the home page with a unique facility where web visitors can search not only by destination but also criteria.

So for example if they want accommodation with ceiling hoists and/or profiling beds they can leave the destination fields blank and just tick hoists and/or profiling beds. The search will then select only accommodations featuring these facilities and if they wish to they can then display these on a map.

Having ascertained which they are interested in they can then click the ‘more info’ button and bring up a detailed page about the accessibility of each individual accommodation.

We also have a selection of factsheets to download in pdf from our publications page including one on UK accommodation with ceiling hoists and one on overseas accessible accommodation (again with the same criteria base).

We also have links to other overseas holiday accommodation on our website links pages.

Several of the overseas accommodations can provide care e.g. this company in Spain.

I do not know of any specific accommodation with environmental control systems but I will investigate this when I have some time to be able do so.
