JoSn,

At this time the HDF4 driver does not support creating HDF4 files with
multiple datasets so there is effectively no subdataset handling.

Did you inspect your application with FileMon as it has been suggested in the thread you mentioned? You may find some other dll-s that couldn't be loaded at run time in the FileMon file access log.

I’ve an error at this line

SpatialReference oUTM = new SpatialReference("");

The type initializer for 'OSGeo.OSR.OsrPINVOKE' threw an exception.".

The innermost exception is what you'd expect - "System.DllNotFoundException: Unable to load DLL
'osr_wrap': The operating system cannot run."

I’ve tested this link

thank you for the hint.
That explains the behavior, I didn't understand before.
I still have a couple of questions concerning gdal-tools.
But I think I should rather use the gdal list for this (gdal-dev@...), shouldn't I?

Andreas,

GDAL tools generally do not use the PROJ.4 epsg init file, and instead
read their EPSG definitions from the pcs.csv and gcs.csv files in the
GDAL data directory (FWTools<version>\data\pcs.csv and gcs.csv).

How to reproyect?

Hi,
I have one GML on EPSG:23030 and I want to reproyect it into EPSG:25830 but I Have some problems.

If I use this code:
ogr2ogr -t_srs EPSG:25830 -f "GML" EENNPP2.gml EENNPP.gml

I get this error: "Can't transform coordinates, source layer has no coordinate system. Use -s_srs to set one."

But I have already set a coordinate system!
this is very strange, I use this other code although:
ogr2ogr -s_srs EPSG:23030 -t_srs EPSG:25830 -f "GML" EENNPP2.gml EENNPP.gml

And this time I got this error: "ERROR 1: XML Parsing Error: An exception occurred! Type:UTFDataFormatException, Message:invalid byte 2 (A) of a 2-byte sequence"

Could you help me?

Dear list,
I'm working with FWTools 2.4.6 (Windows Vista) to transform raster data files. In order to transform from EPSG:31467 to EPSG:25832 I use gdalwarp in the following way:

gdalwarp -s_srs "+proj=tmerc +lat_0=0 +lon_0=9 +k=1 +x_0=3500000 +y_0=0 +ellps=bessel +units=m +nadgrids=C:\Programme\FWTools2.4.6\proj_lib\BETA2007.gsb +wktext" -t_srs "+proj=utm +zone=32 +ellps=GRS80 +datum=WGS84 +units=m +no_defs" -co TFW=YES inputfile.tif outputfile.tif

The result ist fine, except of the GeoTiff-Tags in the outputfile, since they point at WGS84 as the following listing shows:

So I changed the epsg file in FWTools2.4.6/proj_lib to ad the missing '+datum=WGS84-Parameter' and changed the commandline of gdalwarp like this:

Now the GeoTiff-Tags are fine but the result isn't any more. :-(
I assume that the change in the epsg-file is not considered, because I even deleted this file and gdalwarp didn't bother at all. I tried this on a linux-Server with gdal (1.4.2) and proj (4.5.0) too. In this case may changes in epsg were considered! Is this a bug in FWTools, uses gdalwarp other definitions than in epsg or did I make a mistake?

1)whether ogr2ogr supports (or if/when it will) support translation to
sql2008.
2)alternate pathways to go from SDE to SQL 2008 native geography(eg sde

JoSn,

For reasons related to the subdataset oriented nature of HDF4 support,
you actually have to use the HDF4Image driver to create new HDF images.

problem with gdal2tiles

Hi,
I'm using FWTools 2.4.6. When i try to use gdal2tiles from the FWTools shell there is an error:

ImportError : no module named osgeo
this error is in file gdal2tiles.py, line 38, from osgeo import gdal.

Can anyone give me some tips on how to resolve this problem?

Naresh,

There is no GDAL or OGR driver for directly accessing the vat.adf file.
But for Arc/Info binary vector coverages I think the vat.adf is used
(I might be confused).

The GDAL AIGRID driver will use the vat file to return a raster attribute
table if you call the appropriate methods. I think gdalinfo on the grid
should report the raster attribute table.

Cecília,

I believe gdal_fillnodata.py depends on functions only exposed in the
"next generation" Python API, but FWTools still uses the old Python API
for GDAL because that is what OpenEV depends on.

You would be better using OSGeo4W if you need gdal_fillnodata.py. I would
note that in OSGeo4W you would need to switch to the GDAL 1.6 or GDAL-DEV
environment for this script.

But when I try to use the gdal_fillnodata.py from the FWtools shell, I don't get any result.

I think you would specify the path to the element (relative to the
feature) in the ElementPath element in the GFS file.

It is possible that the parser has already stripped off namespaces
at the point these are processed in which case you would need to

No, this is not supported in a .gfs file. At this point I would normally
consider writing a load script to perform feature transformations during
loading.

Question about GFS files

I have been looking into the use of ogr2ogr to load some GML data into a
PostgreSQL database.

I understand that I can edit the GFS files which are created in order to
change how the GML elements are handled (e.g. changing the output width
for a text string).

What I am interested in knowing is how to handle nested elements in the
GML (which currently seem to be ignored).

For example:
The following section of GML defines how a piece of text is rendered in
terms of the anchorPosition, font, height and orientation...

<osgb:textRendering>
<osgb:anchorPosition>3</osgb:anchorPosition>
<osgb:font>1</osgb:font>
<osgb:height>3.000</osgb:height>
<osgb:orientation>0</osgb:orientation>
</osgb:textRendering>

Is it possible to handle a nested element in the <ElementPath> tag of
the GFS file? If so - how is it done?

Additionally, is it possible to bring mathematical functions into the

shape to MySQL

I have some problem to import from ESRY shape to MySQL:

I used the commands:

ogr2ogr -f "MySQL" MYSQL:"myDatabase,host=localhost,user=root,password= ,port=3306" TM_WORLD_BORDERS-0.3.shp -nln "Country" –nlt MULTIPOLYGON –update –overwrite –ico GEOMERY_NAME=geom.

The error message is:

To note:

o Only one colon between EPSG and the number.
o The files are listed output file then input file.
o the default output format is shapefile and does not need to be specified

Question About Shapefile Reprojection With FWTools/OGR2OGR

I'm using FWTools for the first time, and I'm trying to figure out the
command I would use to get OGR2OGR to perform a coordinate
transformation on an ESRI Shapefile. I can't seem to get the syntax
for the command correct, and I was hoping to get some help here.

I'm trying to reproject a shapefile named "roads.shp" from WGS84 to
California State Plane Zone 3. The resulting file should be named
new_road.shp. I know my EPSG codes are 4326 and 2227.

Here is the command that I think is the closest to what I need, after
some trial and error:

ogr2ogr -s_srs EPSG::4326 -t_srs EPSG::2227 -f "ESRI Shapefile"
C:/Temp/my_data/roads.shp C:/Temp/my_data/new_roads.shp

ogr2ogr reports that EPSG::2227 is not found in the support files. I
thought this was a fairly common map projection. Is there a problem
with my command syntax? Do I need to add support for this EPSG code to
FWTools? Can you point me towards the documentation I would use to do
that?

Hi Pedro,

Try this:
ogr2ogr -f CSV C:\Temp\OutputFolder C:\Temp\InputFile.SHP

This will create a folder called C:\Temp\OutputFolder and put the CSV
file in there. In my experience, I haven't been able to get this to
work if the output folder already exists.

Sorry, I meant to suggest this instead:

ogr2ogr -f CSV -lco GEOMETRY=AS_WKT output_wkt input_line.shp

WKT will work better for lines. You can then post-process the WKT to become a CSV of the type you want.

Ernst,

Shapefile coordinates are stored in double precision IEEE floating point
and in that representation there are numbers that cannot be exactly
represented - perhaps including values like .123. In these cases the
internal representation is very close and whether you see 0.123 or
0.12999999999999 will depend on the precision displayed. So I believe
ogrinfo is just reporting so much precision that you see these small
inaccuracies.

There isn't really much to do about this.

Hello,

I have created an SHP-File (polygon) with ArcGIS 9.2. I let ogrinfo show the coordinates of the vertexes and got decimals like .123000005 instead of
.123 or .129999999999 instead of .130

Any Ideas? What causes this change? Maybe a bug in ArcGIS or FWTools?

Can you control the file size output from gdal_merge?

Hi,
I need to merge some raster files and have tried the gdal_merge utility and all worked well but the end file size was much bigger than the combined filesize of the indivdual tiffs i.e. 3 X 15MB tiffs = 1 X 150MB file.

Is this right or can you control the file output size?

Any help or suggestions are welcome

proj_i, proj_fw.dll, proj.dll

Hi,

In recent FW tools windows packages (e.g. FWTools 2.2.8, FWTools 2.4.4) , the proj stub file (proj_i.lib) which I link against refers to proj_fw.dll, but the dll provided in the package is proj.dll.

By renaming proj.dll to proj_fw.dll, everything appears to work ok.

Is this just a case of the proj_i.lib not having been updated to reflect a name change to the .dll?

Or is there a reason why the stub file refers to a different dll than that in the distribution?

Apologies if this has been addressed before - I haven't found anything addressing this in this forum, although I have come across references outside the FWTools list to people who have done the same as me, i.e. rename the dll.

I'd say "most". Apart from the standard TIFF, JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP and XPM, all
other raster formats are likely to be unknown of most image viewers. And not all
image viewers will be able to open and display all flavours of TIFF, especially
when they are big.

Yasha,

There are many exotic remote sensing and geospatial formats supported by
OpenEV that are not handled by standard utilities. A list of OpenEV/GDAL
supported formats is available at:

though not all of those formats would be supported by the FWTools for linux
version of OpenEV.

issued your command from a terminal application under Xwindows,
everything worked. I disposed a copy to my printer, worked fine.

in the openev print dialog box to use other than the default printer
(e.g., a networked color laser printer, my desktop unit being a
