FYI - Another UV shop going away...Just FYI,
Yesterday, Ochsner Health System (8 hospital plus ~40 clinics covering from New Orleans to Baton Rouge, LA.) announced that the in-house maintained Laboratory Information System will be replaced with SoftLab from Soft Computer Corp (softcomputer.com). The in-house system was originally a Pr1me then PI-Open, then Ardent to IBM to Rocket UniVerse system. The source was licensed from LabForce some 20 years ago and maintained and further enhanced in-house with things like automated faxing, connections to PHP/Apache, MS-SQL & Sybase, some GUI (where it made sense), etc. Looks like I'll be moving into the Oracle on AIX world here shortly... Re: FYI - Another UV shop going away...Robert:
Good luck. It's a shame management and IT can't seem to understand that the ROI for such a change will never approach zero from the west, and the only reason for such a change is to spend someone elses money to make an individual, or group of individuals, look intelligent. :-( Reminds me of many of us who can't figure out the economics of pricing; thus figure when the demand curve is shifted to the east, prices go down. Lord, protect others from our ignorance! :-) Bill ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ----- Original Message ----- *From:* ROporter@... *To:* u2-users@... *Date:* 1/24/2012 8:18 AM *Subject:* [U2] FYI - Another UV shop going away... > Just FYI, > > Yesterday, Ochsner Health System (8 hospital plus ~40 clinics covering from New Orleans to Baton Rouge, LA.) announced that the in-house maintained Laboratory Information System will be replaced with SoftLab from Soft Computer Corp (softcomputer.com). Re: FYI - Another UV shop going away...I'm fighting the same stuff where I'm at. Although, we aren't that big of
a chain, only a 300 user system or so. Its an automotive aftermarket supplier. They will spend a million to get "Information at their fingertips", but, they won't buy something like MITS or just wait on one of us to write the code... Boggles my mind... I think we're all going to have to learn to be diplomats, salesmen, motivational speakers, etc. Just being a technical person (admin or developer), isn't good enough any more. Re: FYI - Another UV shop going away...This is sad news. I was in on the initial implementation of the Lab
Force LIS at Ochsner in New Orleans so many years ago. It was a very fun, challenging project - and I'm proud to see that the product has held out so well after all this time. Glenn Luedke is a very good friend of mine, even though we haven't worked together in years. he was my first boss/PM at Lab Force in 1985 (dating myself now). The last time we worked together was around 2000. I hope he is doing well. Bob Worley Coburn Supply Co -----Original Message----- From: u2-users-bounces@... Re: FYI - Another UV shop going away...Lab Force was my own intro to PI & MV. 1981-83.
When I started the office was 2 adjacent suites in the Dallas Best Western Hotel next to Love Field. The room air conditioner just barely handled the Prime 400. Jerry advertized for someone with lab experience & who knew Fortran. My lab experience: No veins were poked. It involved searching for what neutrinos are made of. (I failed to find the answer, in case you were wondering. But "Nutrin-O" would be a good name for a dog food or breakfast cereal.) Fortran: After I'd been at Lab Force for a while, I asked about that. Jerry said cuz it was sort of like Pick Basic. That's quite true. Especially when compared to, say, driving forklifts. cds On 1/24/2012 1:19 PM, Bobby Worley wrote: > This is sad news.
