4.0 Broken Link Check

Greetings,
I've not found a way to check for broken links for v4.
I saw checkLinkObjects.cfm for v3
Will that work on v4?
Is link checking a feature on v5?

Also, the problem of objects being deleted creating broken links
became
apparent on our index page. We had to manually delete the record of
the obsolete file
from dmNavigation table and either Auto Cache or wait for the the
system recache.

So, I need to find a way to rid of broken links.
Xenu doesn't give a reliable report even with the Threads cut way
down.

I've had occasional applicatoin resets that don't seem to properly set up the friendlyURL system, a second reset usually does the trick. Otherwise, It is probably something along the lines of what AJ said.

What is the best way to add page specific CSS and .js files?
Seems silly to add to the dm header when code is only needed on one

You should not be using the "widgets" tag library in FarCry 4+ -- it
is there for backward compatibility reasons only -- the entire tag
library is deprecated. You should be using the "formtools" rich text
editor. To understand formtools you will need to run through the Jump
Start course (even the version 5.0 course would give you a sense of
how formtools work).

I've saved the website as HTML page then looked at the source code. We
embed the JS 2 times:

And we have functions TinyMCE_getSelectedText and insertHTML appear 2
times in the code as well.

I think that is the reason. Can we just only embed those things only

Help with understanding FarCry site

Hi,

I have a site called AussieROO.com and it's been developed using
FarCry 4.0.

I have a few questions to understand my site better:

1. Currently the site is being hosted overseas and I want to bring the
hosting to Australia - Are there any recommendations and is it
possible to host FarCry 4.0 on a shared server environment?
2. How difficult is it to upgrade from FarCry 4.0 to the latest
version? How much time and development effort is involved? I'm
thinking of rebuilding the site and don't want to take this step
unless it's really necessary in order to being the site back to
Australia.
3. What Web Hosts are recommended for FarCry 4.0 in Australia? The
site is quite sluggish at the moment and I'm worried that it's going
to get worse if it gets hosted in Australia on a shared environment.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

You can run v3.x and 4/5 if you deploy using a ColdFusion mapping to
reference the core framework:
http://docs.farcrycms.org/display/FCDEV40/Running+v3+and+v4+Together

One of the main features of FarCry 5.x is the ability to run the
entire framework under the specific webroot of your project. This
allows you to deploy different versions of FarCry 5+ for every single
project if that suits your environment ie. each webroot can have its
own farcry deployment.

Unfortunately, ColdFusion *always* sees the ColdFusion mapping before
it sees something under the webroot so this deployment approach will
not work with earlier versions of FarCry.

Long story short -- if you want to play with FarCry 5.1 deploy it
locally to a developer version of ColdFusion and see what you think.

Is the ./farcry install under the document root of the website you are
installing from? What virtual directories have you put in place for
the installer or are you using a ColdFusion mapping?

I have found a solution, but not one that deals with the issue at the
installation stage. Here's what I did:

- I followed the code to find the query that would otherwise populate
the navid structure.
- I looked at the query and improved it (although on a SQL Server
install the original works fine)
- I changed the file /core/packages/types/dmNavigation.cfc
- In the getNavAlias function above the existing query:

- That only half solves the issue. The rest is the one done at install
where the navid structure is created.
- To solve this, open the /core/webtop/site/sidebar.cfm and put the
following at the top:

application.stcoapi["dmNavigation"].packagePath).getNavAlias() />
</cfif>

- Then log into the admin and go to the site page, which should now
load the side bar without the navid.home error.

You'll also be able to look at the view page as well without the

(I thought this issue would be much more complex than modifying the
query ever so slightly)

The JRun server isn't going to support friendly URLs. It's really
pretty simple to install Apache for developing locally. Personally, I
install EasyPHP (version 3) and get Apache, PHP, and MySQL for local
development.

Farcry 5.1 on oracle 10. application.navid.home undefined

Hi!

I've just installed farcry 5.1 using Oracle 10. I had to modify a
couple of files for the installation to finish, because Oracle doesn't
support table names longer then 30 characters... :P I posted the
details in the farcry-dev group:

Anyway, once installed I get a couple of errors that I think are
related:

1. If I browse to the application url http://server/project, I get a
"Redirect loop" error.

2. If I try to manage the users using the page
http://server/farcry/core/webtop/admin/customadmin.cfm?module=customlists/dmProfile.cfm
I get an exception, with the following message: "Variable
application.navid.home is undefined."

Most of the admin pages work fine, but some fail with the same error.
Any ideas? TIA

Friendly URL 404

Hi all,

I'm getting a 404 issue when I try to use friendly URL.

In Admin page -> Manage Friendly URL, I have

/go/about-mediasmart /index.cfm?objectid=070FE755-D601-A52B-
EA1587C91EBA9A99

But in home page, when I go to http://127.0.0.1:8300/go/about-mediasmart
, I will have this problem

JRUN servlet error

404 /go/about-mediasmart
/go/about-mediasmart

Anyway, if I try http://127.0.0.1:8300/index.cfm?objectid=070FE755-D601-A52B-EA1587C91EBA9A99
, it will be ok.

Do you know how to solve this one? Please help me. Thank you :-)

Thank you for responding.
I'm new to FarCry and am on my third site with 4.0.
I'll try to clarify our issue a little better.

When an html object is deleted from the site tree, sometimes it remains in the
dmNavigation table. Our index page is dynamically generated, and therefore, it creates
broken links.

So, yes I have discovered that when the record is manually deleted from the
dmNavigation table, and the cache is refreshed, either manually or automatically,
the errant link is removed.

So, I don't know why they are still in dmNavigation after deletion.

Now I've got an issue with pending and drafts not appearing in the Overview tab and not emailing upon Request Approval.

I've checked permissions, etc and have followed the advice on the known bug on the
getObjectsPendingApproval.cfm, (switching t_#stLocal.iCounter#.createdby, t_#stLocal.iCounter#.lastupdatedby) but still it doesn't work on two sites.

Any advice there?

And yes, we are looking at moving to v5.
We've got 4 sites running on v4.
We'd like to run one of the less visited sites on v5, will that run okay with v4 on the others on the same server?
Or is it all or nothing?

Any navigation element that FarCry constructs will be automatically
changed as the system is updated -- including deletes. The only
exception to this are links embedded in caches ie. you'd have to wait
till the cache updated. Later versions of FarCry 5.x (latest is now
5.2) automatically refresh the cache removing this issue.

However, links embedded in your content will not be updated. Nor does
FarCry have any specific way of checking their validity. In more
modern versions of FarCry its pretty clever in working out where to
redirect links that may have moved or changed names. But even so hand-
crafted links are always problematic -- this is why an external link
checker like Xenu is very useful.

You suggest Xenu is not working for you in terms of reporting bad
links? What seems to be the problem there?
