Fennec: wap/wml support?Hi all,
I have a question concerning wap/wml support for the mobile Mozilla Fennec browser, have been told that the Fennec guys are not planning to provide this support for the Fennec for Windows Mobile devices. Are you planning to provide such an add-on for the Fennec on Windows Mobile? This would be great and make the Fennec an alternative for the Opera browser for me. Would enjoy to have my favorite desktop browser to be also my favorite mobile browser, without wap/wml this won't be the case. Think for mobile devices it is much more important to have the wml support than for the desktop environment. Thnks a lot for an answer and best regards, Bernie _______________________________________________ Wmlbrowser mailing list Wmlbrowser@... https://www.mozdev.org/mailman/listinfo/wmlbrowser |

Hi, I don't have a device capable of running Fennec so I can't easily get this working. If someone can beta-test then I can try to knock up a test version of the extension to see if it works. I've put a release at http://downloads.mozdev.org/wmlbrowser/wmlbrowser-0.7.20-fennec.xpi This release should now be making its way out to the mirrors, so if it doesn't work right away it might be worth trying again in a couple of hours. Please let me know how it goes. Matthew _______________________________________________ Wmlbrowser mailing list Wmlbrowser@... https://www.mozdev.org/mailman/listinfo/wmlbrowser |

Re: Fennec: wap/wml support?Hi Matthew, just a fast info and good news for you: installed the wmlbrowser extension on my device (HTC Touch Pro, Win Mobile) by visiting the download page, and - the extension has been installed!! Tested a first wml page and it showed up! The representation is as I know from the desktop browser. The wml page contained several cards and all have been shown on one single browser page. Fonts are small. Is there a chance to have them bigger? Can you imagine to have the extension working like showing the cards on different pages, the wml page will have the links for navigation between the cards. Thinking of the way how Opera does that: one card per page and fonts are adapted to be big enough for easy clicking on links on touchscreen device (also with bigger fingers... ;-)) Is something like that possible? For the desktop version it is of course fine to have it like it is. Will test some other pages this evening. Thanks a lot for fast provision of the extension and best regards, Bernie Matthew Wilson schrieb: > bernward.meyknecht@... wrote: >> Hi Matthew, >> >> my device is running Fennec and I could make a beta test of an >> extension for wap/wml if you like to prepare one. >> Just send me. >> Think it is really a necessary feature for a mobile browser. > > I've put a release at > http://downloads.mozdev.org/wmlbrowser/wmlbrowser-0.7.20-fennec.xpi > > This release should now be making its way out to the mirrors, so if it > doesn't work right away it might be worth trying again in a couple of > hours. > > Please let me know how it goes. > > Matthew > > _______________________________________________ Wmlbrowser mailing list Wmlbrowser@... https://www.mozdev.org/mailman/listinfo/wmlbrowser |

I found that there is a Fennec release for Windows so I was able to do some testing myself (although of course there may still be differences against a real mobile device). I took the following screenshots: http://wmlbrowser.mozdev.org/screenshots/fennec1.png (WML) http://wmlbrowser.mozdev.org/screenshots/fennec2.png (HTML) Also I found that a scrolling the mousewheel changed the font size. I don't know how that translates to a mobile device.
