Hi, sorry for bothering you, but after many hours of battling with this board I finally came to the conclusion I needed professional help :P

I am not really an expert when it comes to linux, so I ran into some problems with my Verdex Pro XM4 on a pretty base level
I have the netpro-vx-Board as an expansion board attached. Nothing else.
The image I'm using is the unaltered one it came shipped with, so I'm pretty much at square one.

First of all:
-It comes with a WLAN-Antenna, but when I log in (over SSH) and run the commands "ifconfig" or "iwconfig" it just returns me the Ethernet-connection and a local loopback (the one to 127.0.0.1 ;) ). WLAN simply isn't even recognized as a possible connection or simply isn't listed? Would be great to know how to get my WLAN working ;) Is there maybe a simple option that by default hides the WLAN?
(Ethernet would be needed for something different, and the internet should go over WLAN)
This is what ifconfig prints out:

eth0      Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 00:15:C9:09:70:90
          inet addr:192.168.1.36  Bcast:192.168.1.255  Mask:255.255.255.0
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST  MTU:1500  Metric:1
          RX packets:16306 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:22314 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
          RX bytes:3799134 (3.6 MiB)  TX bytes:2725568 (2.5 MiB)
          Interrupt:131 DMA chan:ff

lo        Link encap:Local Loopback
          inet addr:127.0.0.1  Mask:255.0.0.0
          UP LOOPBACK RUNNING  MTU:16436  Metric:1
          RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
          RX bytes:0 (0.0 B)  TX bytes:0 (0.0 B)

And second:
-I wanted to install gcc. When I simply execute "ipkg install gcc" I get the following message in return:

Installing gcc (4.1.2-r7) to root...
Downloading http://www.gumstix.net/feeds/current/glibc/ipk/armv5te/gcc_4.1.2-r7_armv5te.ipk
Configuring gcc

(There is no confirmation like "gcc installed successfully" or anything like that, is this correct?)
Well, I assumed I could now go on and use gcc, but no -> "-sh: gcc: not found"
I checked my /usr/bin and /usr/sbin directories, no link whatsoever to gcc. Where is this "root" gcc was installed to? There weren't any files added at / or at /home/root
Is there maybe a simple tutorial with step-by-step advice to get at least gcc running? In the modern time of "apt-get" and the like I simply couldn't find one...

Sorry again for the noobish questions and thanks for any answers ;)

Greetings from Switzerland
Florian Besser
