Few enhancementsHi
Is there a wish list compilation anywhere? I have been using Squirrel for a while, and there are few small enhancements that would make it so much better (for little effort I think). Here it goes: 1) Make the number of returned rows more visible. Three suggestions: 1.a) To show it in the status message panel (along with elapsed time). E.g. "Query 1 of 1. Rows: 4322. Elapsed time (seconds) - Total: 25.25, SQL query: 1.39, Building output: 23.86." 1.b) To show it in the result set tab before the SQL command. E.g. "Rows: 12345. select * from Table" 1.c) To show it in the result set tab status bar (next to the alias) Note: row count is usually more important and used than elapsed time. At the moment, I need to navigate to the Info tab. 2) Make it clear when the query execution fails. Two suggestions: 2.a) Display a popup message with the error. 2.b) Create a new tab and show the error message instead of the result set Note: The problem here is that it is not clear whether the visible resultset tab is the one from the executed query, or the one from the previous query (when query fails to run). I have found this extremely misleading in a number of occasions, and it forces you to always check all messages from the status panel. I believe the error should be more visible to the user. 3) Enable vertical split between SQL query and Result Set panel. As a suggestion, the separator should change orientation (vertical/horizontal) by pressing a button in button bar. Note: This helps optimise the viewing area in environment with wide screens and/or two screens. Re: Few enhancementsI agree completely with Eduard's first 2 suggestions. I've run into
exactly the situation he describes. I suppose they should get logged in the bug tracker as enhancements. For the third point I have no disagreement... but I don't think I would ever use a vertical split option. Re: Few enhancementsThanks
I have logged all three enhancements in the Tracker. I might even do some of these myself.
