Web Viewer Encoding issue, google maps, php, javascirpt ps

If you run the example script you get errors in php because it is not getting passed the serialized list var "q".

The php page works. The form isn't posting and sending "q".

Web Viewer Encoding issue, google maps, php, javascirpt

I'm having an ongoing issue with the Web Viewer :-) I'd like to resolve. I can send you the view in the WV layout. You can see the encoding in the wv layout window, but I can't send an attachment to the list.

I have this javascript form in the web viewer:

directly in the web viewer I have a calc that substitutes the #q for a serialized & encoded address list.

This should work. I have 2 test scripts and a test file. One I encode the serialized list [var q] and one script I don't encode the serialized list. Custom functions cfURLEncode, cfSerializeData, Trim4.
I create a ¶ delimited URLencoded address list and trimmed trailing and ending ¶'s.

Script 1:I know the web viewer is encoding the javascript form, so i tried not encoding the serialized list . When I run that script, the form gets cut off in the web viewer output starting in the middle of the address list and gets cut off. I'm pretty sure it needs to be urlEncoded:

Script 2----------
When I run it with the address list encoded the form doesn't process and I get a blank in the WEb viewer but in layout mode I can see my form that is encoded and the encoded address list in the web viewer. As I said above I can send you the pdf picture. It looks okay to me.

This is a direct POST in the Web Viewer on a PC running FM9 or greater.
It only works on the PC to do a direct post and it has to be 9 or greater.
I have this form running already on a Mac but it is a GET to a POST conversion so its different in that the url is sent to a local path as a GET then converted to a POST. I would love to get the PC version running.

I have this all set up on a test FM 9 Server. If you want to log in as guest and help me figure out this issue you can have the php page so you can print a google map yourself.   fmnet:/janisrough.dyndns.biz/map_4.fp7

I can't see why this doesn't work.

It has always been that way. Just be thankful you are not in Japan –
or worse were not in Japan in the early '90s. Doubled prices were the
norm back then.

Of course, localization was the excuse; but the high prices worked for
the standard English version as well. Unfair? Maybe. Just business?
Again, maybe.

But what always galled me (and FMI are by not the worst offenders by
far; a small business beginning with M is worse) are restrictive sales
practices that prevent cross-market retail sales – so, for example, a
store in the US is not permitted to ship to Japan. And a copy bought
legitimately in, say, the US couldn't be upgraded at all if one moved
to Japan. (All very different now, with the Internet.) Free trade? My
foot!

Claude, you might want to check into the plug in called pdf manipulator, I
have not used it but, I know it will take a pdf and glean data off of it. I
am know it does ocr but not sure if it does omr. Do you have the ability to
alter your test forms? I am pretty sure with all the developers here that
someone could come up with a neat solution based on pixels that filemaker
could determine if a set area was clear or not.

is highly relevant for an educator and a researcher as I am. However, it
is too much because my need is only to read the marks and feed my
Filemaker application to do the desired calculations and produce the
reports. My practical concern is to make available an affordable
application for the schools being aware that, most of the time, their
budget is tight : Remark Office OMR or SimpleIndex + a scanner/printer +
my application and, maybe, a dedicated new computer. According to my
evaluation, it would be too much. I need to look for a less expensive
solution taking into account what people in public education can afford.

FMI prices their products in the local currency, not in dollars. As
such, the price of the product remains static regardless of where the
currency markets might be headed.

(approximately US$ 4830)

These are basic Filemaker prices. Local state taxes in the US (maximum

yes explorer does automatically add http:// So you should test to see
which browser you are using and then change your variable as
necessary.

Its kind of an off problem but it works in Firefox and not I.E.

I have the script step:
Open URL [No dialog:$$url]
I checked in the View Data window of the debugger and the url value is correct.
It opens the url correctly in Firefox but not in I.E.
In I.E. it does something weird.
It adds an http://%22http://99.170.XX.XXX/myphp.php?addr=serialized address list.
I can't figure out where the "http://%22" is coming from.
In I.E. security I have unchecked https for ssl.
I also added my IP address to the trusted sites. Does I.E. add the http:// already?

I don't think the issue is that the url is too long. I have a short address list. It seems to be qualifying he url I give it with http:// and I think the %22 is the colon.

When I researched this for our solution I found Gravics also, and it was
highly recommended by the outside developer we were utilizing at the time,
however, they found that it would only do OMR (optical mark reader) and we
desired the ability to OCR (optical character reading) as well. For our
solution actually read the customer id and mailing campaign number encoded
on the card. (we have since moved up to bar coding as well as the actual
id's) Plus as I stated early we also desired the ability to "read" loan
packages as well as appraisals that were scanned into the system to detect
compliance issues with the data provided. It actually was a pretty cool set
up for the appraisals as now I only needed to script the compliance issues
and not teach everyone how to read a appraisal. Red flags were just a
flying! They are both good solutions. Also on last note I think I stated
that you needed a plug in to manipulate the files, we were using Troi
Activator but you could use the one from 360works (I think that is their
name) file manipulator it is free.

use a run-of-the mill scanner, and not require purchased forms. Struck out
on a Mac application, but I did find a Windows application which did the
job.

a seamless solution, but it works quite well.

While you may scan directly into the software with a large number of
scanners (I used a Brother MFC-440), the software now reads from PDF, TIFF,
PCX and JPEG files, so now I use a SnapScan 300 scanner on my Mac to scan
into a PDF, which I then feed into Remark Office running in Parallels. I
process the data in Remark Office, then export it as an Excel file (there
are 30 other formats it can use) which I import into FileMaker.

Not a perfect system, but it works pretty well. I can scan in 50 tests,
process them and print out the results in about an hour. Beats doing it by
hand.

was able to control it from filemaker. (It did require the use of Troi
Activator plug in to manipulate the folders). Simple index was around
1200.00 for the full version. The site to see all about the software is
www.simpleindex.com We used it to capture data from lead cards that
potential clients mailed in. This way the data entry folks did not need to
try to read the information and then retype it, just scan and review for
accuracy. We also used a function for OMR (optical mark reader) to capture
the boxes that were checked on the card (much like you are looking for).
This all worked very well once we got all the bugs out of it. (unfortunately
not all of our marketing material that was created without scanning in mind
made it quite the task setting up the templates but once we got it down pat
it worked and continues to work great) We were also creating other functions
for it to "read" loan applications and "look" for missing signatures and
dates, the tests were successful but since I am no longer work for that
company I do not know if they took it to the next step and put it into the
work flow.

I am looking around to find out a not too expensive software or plug-in

Sometimes its best just to give the an example (screenshot) of what you are
talking about. This list serve has a lot of great developers and tons of
information to provide, yet when something becomes elusive... well you all
know what I am talking about.
Show a couple of screen shots and I think then you will get a better
solution response to what you are looking to achieve.

I don't think it is a question of conciseness. But anyway...

Your original post talked of summaries, summary layouts, and summaries
pulling from layouts. Unfortunately, this is not really Filemaker
terminology. It may be that we've picked up on certain elements of
what you wrote -- particularly the word summary, which has a few
particular meanings within Filemaker -- and assumed a complexity that
you don't have.

It may be that Serge has it right: you have a layout in list view but
for some reason it is not showing more than one record.

What does your status area show? There you should be able to see if
you are on the right track. It will tell you how many records are in
the table and how many are in the found set (ie displayed currently in
browse view). If these numbers are not equal, then you need to do Find
All to see all your records.

If the total number of records is 1, then you have a problem with what
table the layout is based on; it may be set to a different table from
the one where you originally entered the data.

On the other hand, you were asking about summary and sub-summary parts
earlier in the thread. If those are involved, then all bets are off;
the situation is going to be more complex.

Hope that helps a little. If it doesn't and you remain frustrated with
the problem, I suggest you write back to us detailing the table(s) in
your database file, the layouts (and which tables they are based on),
and some idea of what records are present in the table(s).

This has gotten way too complicated due to my not explaining what I
was asking at first concisely. The layout only shows one pledger/
puchaser. Not all. It makes no difference which view I'm in. Why am
I only getting one person, not the 20+ I should be seeing? There is
no connection between the pledge/purchaser, so all should be showing
up on the list.

I didn't say pledgers and purchasers need to be separated out. I
completely agree with you; both are persons, but perhaps with
different attributes.

I said pledgers should be separated from pledges/purchases (note the
lack of an 'r' here!). Pledges/purchases appear to be amounts of money.

Persons and amounts of money are not the same kind of thing at all.
They should likely be separate entities -- especially if, as in this
case, there is a need to sum pledges by pledger.

I didn't want to get too complex in my response, but in fact of course
there's likely a need for a third entity -- 'payments against pledges'
or something along those lines.

Maybe that iPhone screen is a bit small for this kind of thing? Or
perhaps your eyes are fading, as mine are with age!

I'm sorry, but I don't agree that pledgers and purchasers need to be
separated out. They are a people with names, addresses and phone
numbers. What you need is either an identifying text field to show you
which group they are in (with checkboxes) and perhaps a flag number
field that marks whether they owe you money or not. You can nicely
script this. Now, the payments and pledges should be in a different
table and each individual one should be a separate record.

I highly recommend using some sort of graph modelling software (or pen
and paper) and draw out your table connections. By the time you're
done you will hopefully have a better idea of figuring out where
things should go.

Also, when you send an email to the list you might want to refresh
people's memory as to what your DB is there to achieve. Let's say you
have a family library with 2 tables: the books and the people. I want
to see how many books each person has and when they borrowed them.
Then get into the technical issue. It makes it easier for all of us.

You may need to do some rewiring. Either in your Filemaker thinking or
in the database, or perhaps both.

You cannot 'pull' data from a layout. Data resides in fields which are
defined within tables. So you might say that you pull data from a
table, but not from a layout. In fact, although layouts do in a way
'pull' data from tables, the layout really doesn't have much to do
with how you manipulate your data; it is really only a way of
displaying the data.

Do you have a table for 'pledgers' and another for 'pledges/
purchases'? You probably should have. Anyway, you really need to tell
us something about your data structure before anyone can give a
sensible answer to your question.

One way to do what you want is a field that simply sums (via a
relationship to pledges/purchases) the total amount in each pledger
record. With this field on a layout displaying pledgers as a list,
you'll see the balance for each pledger.

In its simplest form, such an arrangement will show the balance over
all history (might be slow). But it would be a good start.

George,

You know what might make sense for you? Sign up for O'Reilly Safari
Books online. Then you can collect let's say 10 FileMaker books on
your shelf for a low monthly fee and search through them. I used to
have that and considering getting it, again.

The books Patricia referred you to are all really good; I've used them
all.

Also, fmforums.com has most of the questions answered that you can
come up with, because if we have questions, chances are someone has
already asked them.

I've been developing since 1993, still, I have gray areas. :-)

I should have used different wording to ask my question, though I do
what the info on summaries. I'll try again.

The layout I'm working on doesn't actually use the sub-summary part.
It's a list format of data pulled from the main layout for each
individual. I.E. Layout one show Bob and Sue both pledged 300 plus
made purchases of 200. The second layout is supposed to show that Sue
completed her pledge and paid for her purchases thus owing nothing.
Bob has only made 2 payments and has only paid for half his purchases
thus owing 200. Right now only Sue is showing up in the 2nd layout in
Preview view. Once I figure out where Bob is, then I'll do my
homework on getting a summary of the total owed by both Bob and Sue.

Hope that's clearer. I'm using FMP 10 Advanced.
