FireFox 3.5Not so long ago I was ranting about FireFox on Linux which was very slow
with some web sites -- especially with Gmail while scrolling down the page using the mouse wheel. Now with the brand new version 3.5 it seems that the issue disappeared... Also it occupies around 140MB of memory compared to the 3.0x which needs over 200MB. Just thought some of you would wonder of this. I believe the graphics card and the drivers are ok -- at least I can play 3D games at 120fps on a 1280x1024 screen so I guess that should be ok for a simple 2D rendering machine like FireFox as well. Anyway, I think it was a problem with the old Gecko engine so they had issues with some DHTML powered pages but with this new version it seems that everything is fine. Re: FireFox 3.5I am curious why my Firefox didn't upgrade to 3.5 all by itself this time?

Re: FireFox 3.5There might be some clever way to decrease the server load when a new
release is there. If you choose the "check for upgrade" manually from the help menu it should do that straight away (on Windows, because on Linux you might have to do it in other ways) Tamas On Wed, Jul 1, 2009 at 8:23 PM, Funny NYPD <funnynypd@...> wrote: > I am curious why my Firefox didn't upgrade to 3.5 all by itself this time? > > Funny N. > Au Group Electronics, http://www.AuElectronics.com > http://www.AuElectronics.com/products > http://augroups.blogspot.com/ > > > > > ________________________________ > From: M.L. <m@...> > To: Microcontroller discussion list - Public. <piclist@...> > Sent: Wednesday, July 1, 2009 7:34:51 AM > Subject: Re: [OT] FireFox 3.5 > > On Wed, Jul 1, 2009 at 6:07 AM, Tamas Rudnai<tamas.rudnai@...> > wrote: > > On Wed, Jul 1, 2009 at 12:05 AM, solarwind <x.solarwind.x@...> > wrote: > > > >> What graphics card do you have? > >> > > > > nVidia -- why? > > -- > > > If you have jerky two-dimensional graphics the issue is more likely > your graphics driver in the case of a not-well-supported OS like > Linux. > > - > Martin > -- > http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive > View/change your membership options at > http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist > > > > > -- > http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive > View/change your membership options at > http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist > -- http://www.mcuhobby.com -- http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist |

Re: FireFox 3.5Thanks Tamas.
You are right. Now my FireFox is downloading the 3.5. I am currently using the 3.0.11. Curious what makes a big jump to 3.5? Any important new features? Funny N. Re: FireFox 3.5My 'check for update' is dimmed out in 3.0.11 ... and update manager doesn't
catch it either. Guess it's off to the website after work. Some Linux distros have that disabled so you use the package from their repository. -- http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist |
