Firebug will not install

by Feelthepulse :: Rate this Message:

Hi,

I cannot get firebug 1.4.3 to install.

I have tried previous versions but no version will install.

I do not get any error messages and have checked the error console
prior to installation and after (no error messages). I have disabled
all other add ons, uninstalled them and still it does not install.

I have uninstalled Firefox (deleted all profile folders and any
mozilla folders) reinstalled and attempted to install firebug as the
first extention ..... still nothing.

Once I have run the install and it tells me to restart, firefox
reloads, the bug does not appear in the bottom status bar and if I
check addons there is nothing listed.

I am running Firefox 3.5.3 on Windows 7 Professtional

Any help appreciated I really love firebug for debugging

I am experiencing the same issue. Perhaps it is related to windows 7?

Try running the install with Firefox in Safe Mode.

This worked for me.

That is useful to know ... it seems to me like an extension conflict
then.

Some apps install plugins globally so they will also exist in a brand
new profile ... Randall, if you create a brand new profile and then go
to Tools -> Addons -> Extensions what do you see in the list?

I've just tried installing Firefox 3.0.15 to see if there is any
difference but exactly the same. Appears to install, no error messages
but when Firefox restarts it is not there.

But when you create a new profile and start Firefox are there any
extensions listed under Tools -> Addons -> Extensions?

Success!!

Had reloaded firefox and I got a message to upgrade Adobe flash player
as there were some instability issues. I did this and just wondering I
tried installing firebug. This time it worked!

I have checked the extentions again and can see no difference from
previously although below the Shockwave Flash 10.0.2.54 are the words
Shockwave Flash 10.0 r2.

I am not certain if the r2 was there previously so wonder if this was
an incompatibility with Shockwave flash?

Anyway it is working now so try updating Flash player.

I had this problem on v3.0.15, could not get Firebug to install at
all.  Tried all of the above to no avail.

When I tried to update Flash, I noticed that the Adobe DLM plugin
would not install either, and then thought that I upgraded Kaspersky
(Internet Security v10) recently and the trouble started about then.
So I paused protection and performed the install, worked first time.
Maybe Kaspersky is making it fail silently, very odd.

Re: Firebug will not install

I had this problem again when upgrading firebug to 1.4.5. It would not
install and eventually disappeared from the extensions list. I tried
several ways of getting it to install until I did the following:

1. I downloaded the firebug xpi file and put it into a temporary
folder.
2. Next I installed firebug by clicking the on the xpi file on the
internet site (not the one on my hard drive)
3. Instead of restarting firefox as suggested I closed firefox
4. Navigate to your profiles folder and then to the extensions folder.
5. create a folder called firebug@...
6. Using win zip extract the xpi file in your temporary folder into
the folder created above
7. delete the folder called stagedxpi that should also be in your
extensions folder
8. start firefox firebug should now be available.

Hope this helps someone
