Firefox 3.5 releasedhttp://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/upgrade.html
All my extensions, except YSlow and Selenium work. For compatibility, you can run multiple versions of FF: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=613873 --steve -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Steve Piercy Web Site Builder Soquel, CA <web@...> <http://www.StevePiercy.com/> -- This list is a free service of LassoSoft: http://www.LassoSoft.com/ Search the list archives: http://www.ListSearch.com/Lasso/Browse/ Manage your subscription: http://www.ListSearch.com/Lasso/ |

This is my new favorite plugin. Last thing I want is to have my browser look *anything* like IE. bah! https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/10535 And how to migrate passwords. http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=1307985 --steve -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Steve Piercy Web Site Builder Soquel, CA <web@...> <http://www.StevePiercy.com/> -- This list is a free service of LassoSoft: http://www.LassoSoft.com/ Search the list archives: http://www.ListSearch.com/Lasso/Browse/ Manage your subscription: http://www.ListSearch.com/Lasso/ |

It's also supported by Opera 10*, currently in beta, which is shaping up to be a very nice browser. Opera's "DragonFly" debugging console is on par with Firebug, and more intuitive IMO than Safari's Web Inspector. Opera's support for current and emerging standards is -- and always has been -- excellent, and it is blazingly fast. I've always admired Opera for their commitment to standards, exceptional performance, and innovation. They are often first to introduce features like Speed Dial, which then get ripped off by competitors (i.e., Safari's "Top Sites"). However, in the past, odd interface decisions in the browser chrome always kept me from adopting it as my primary browser. With version 10, they've finally refined the UI to the point where, though it is still unique, enough stuff is in the "normal" places that it doesn't bother me any more. If you haven't taken a look at Opera in a while, it's worth checking out: http://www.opera.com/browser/next/ - jason *(That leaves out just one major rendering engine, IE. There's not even experimental support for it in version 8. There's not > even experimental support for it in version 8. Big surprise, huh?) I try Opera with every release, but for some reason I always find myself saying 'meh' and going back to Firefox. I can't really say what gives me this feeling, as it really is a great browser, and it has always been one of the fastest and most full-featured browser around. I guess it's the extensions in Firefox that really make the browser. Html validator, Firebug, flashblock and adblock plus are things I really want in a browser. It's not that they're not committed to web standards, but it is definitely not one of their priorities. While Safari and Opera worked hard to ensure their next browser releases passed the Acid 2 and then the Acid 3 test, Firefox seems to always wait for the next two releases. (This release doesn't pass the Acid 3 test) I've been playing with the new Opera 10 beta and have been much more impressed then previous versions. The program actually starts quickly on my Mac, and I like what they've done with the new UI. It's become my secondary browser of choice lately and is definitely worth a look. -Brad -- This list is a free service of LassoSoft: http://www.LassoSoft.com/ Search the list archives: http://www.ListSearch.com/Lasso/Browse/ Manage your subscription: http://www.ListSearch.com/Lasso/ |

Re: Firefox 3.5 releasedI've used Firefox as my primary browser for a long time. My biggest
gripe is that each new major release starts out nice and fast, but as they plug security holes and fix bugs with point releases, it just gets slower and slower. And, the more plugins you add, the slower it gets as well, especially on older hardware. We have a crusty old G4 in our conference room powering the projector. Scrolling a window in Firefox on that machine is so slow and clunky you sometimes see beachballs in between each staggering step, and the only plugin it's running is Firebug. I can pop open the same page in Opera on that machine -- with DragonFly active -- and it's just as fast and smooth as it is on newer machines. - jason On Thu, Jul 2, 2009 at 8:44 AM, Brad Lindsay<blindsay@...> wrote: > On Jul 2, 2009, at 4:35 AM, Jason Huck wrote: >> >> Opera's support for current and emerging standards is -- >> and always has been -- excellent, and it is blazingly fast. Judging from the numerous responses on the WHATWG list[1], it's likely to remain this way for some time -- the browser vendors can not agree on a single codec to commonly support. - Bil [1] This barely scratches the surface: http://lists.whatwg.org/pipermail/whatwg-whatwg.org/2009-June/020620.html -- This list is a free service of LassoSoft: http://www.LassoSoft.com/ Search the list archives: http://www.ListSearch.com/Lasso/Browse/ Manage your subscription: http://www.ListSearch.com/Lasso/ |
