Cheers,

Why wait?  Download it from Mozilla.  It's a self-contained directory which
can be put anywhere.  I have it in /home/jerry in both Kubuntu and Mandriva.

There is a difference between the version distributed directly by
Mozilla and the MDV one. The Mozilla one is pre-compiled without the
--enable-system-cairo flag, whereas the MDV one is compiled with this
flag. This make a HUGE difference of the fonts, especially for the
users having subpixel hinting with cairo enabled.

Yes, and the distro's rpm is tightly integrated with the distro itself
(theme, plugins, etc...), flash and java work out of the box, you
don't clutter up your /home and you make ff 3.5 available to anyone on
your computer.

But ff3.5 is not even available officially on cooker right now. Just
wait a bit, a discussion is going on about this.

There's a thread in the Cooker ML on this, but I haven't looked into
the specifics of it. Why is there a discussion on 3.5? It should be
released right away since it seems like a significant performance
increase (less memory usage) over 3.0.x series.

Because all parts of the integration must work, before it's pushed out..

And as always, it wont be pushed into updates for older distributions as
long as the 3.0 series is still supported, which is until January 2010.

As said, the program has to be first in cooker, tested and then
backported to stable releases. It can be within the next hours or
within the next months.

If the memory used is a big problem for you, feel free to use any
other browser available (arora, midori, galeon, epiphany, dillo, ... )
:-)

Or you could just add:
ftp://ftp.mandrivauser.de/rpm/GPL/2009.1/i586/testing
repo and add it from there :)
