Fixing Cocoon support for eXist 1.3 - anyone?

Dear eXist users,

has anyone tried to get eXist up and running with Cocoon 2.2 recently?
If yes, what steps are needed? We would like to keep the
eXist-as-Cocoon-block build for eXist 1.3, but right now it's broken and
I don't really have much experience with the newer Cocoon releases.

Any hint or offer for help would be more than welcome!
