yeah i too agree with all the points which was mentioned.

there was a point said that the flex builder is not coming in free

of course we can't get every thing free but still i found an free ide tool which look same as flex builder is called as Amethyst. i'm not saying this is the one, may get many tool like this is as open source in coming future.here have added the link to download the ide.

Great responses guys :), though i might disagree on certain points.

i can think of some issues as in (some of them are addressed in flex 4)

1. its not like html, limited to what flash can do, for some people this is a dis advantage but in essence its not really a disadvantage, after all you intent to create web apps using flash and not web sites.

2. deep linking, history management, swf crawling are still hard to achieve in flex 3/flash but as i said flash is inherently different from technologies which have a dependency on states maintained at server and remember the browser today is designed thinking these aspects.

3. myths around the technology, they themselves at times tend to become disadvantages for the platform and technology, flex is relatively easy to learn and adopt, simple ways of deploying apps, browser independent etc etc., huge community, loads of free components, the least you can do is to explore stuff n search for them, afterall you get them free :)

4. Bad designe / architecture of the apps is to be blamed and not essentially the underlying technology, you can create an extreme lightweight application using flash and extemely bulky app also using flash that like takes minutes to load.

5. flex apps cant run on mobile but wait the new mobile flex sdk slider http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flex/mobile/ is here.

6. support issues in flex 3 and builder are now being improved, advanced css selectors, new spark component model, FXG are some of the enhacements.

this would be really simple if you are doing it in flex 4, create a skin and position the sub components in what ever way you want or in flex 3, try extending the component and look for the functions in the component source code file where the exact layout and positioning happening and extend this function.

Hi,

I have written a component extending VBox and containting 2 labels,
this component is a popup, the problem i have is that the component
does not scale if i dont set the width and height of it it defaults to
0?

And the labels inside it dont want to provide me their size too, when
I do label.width or label.textWidth it always returns 0 even if the
text is not null?

I also set autosize = true; nothing works how can I make this
components scale dynamically ?

input text box but I dont know how to read XSD in flex.Could you

@ravi,

After creating a new flex project,when u first build the project u i
will see all the necessary files created in the bin-debug folder
including the wrapper html file.

When you say "Earlier it was working fine" i presume u had html
earlier. If u had try to clean the project it will generate a new
html, provided there are no compile time errors during the build.
Check if u had any errors.

[flex_india:27011] Security sandbox violation 2121

Hi guys,

I am going crazy, so now was the time to post ;-)

I have two swf-files, lets call them A and B.

Each one is hosted on a seperate domain, both are standard http-
domains.

A is loading B using the Loader class, but when it does, it throws a
security sandbox violation error 2121.
The error is thrown at exactly the point in my code, where A tries to
change the loader.content.scaleX (i.e.chaging width of B).

The error in detail is:
Error #2121: Security sandbox violation:
Loader.content: http://XXDomain/files/A.swf cannot
access
http://YYDomain/abc/def/assets/flash/B.swf.
This may be worked around by calling Security.allowDomain.

However, my application code also include the code:
Security.allowDomain("*");

I think I have done everything I can to get it to work:

Distributor domain(YYDomain) has a crossdomain.xml file which allows
access for all (*),
and I even force client Flex application to load it by using
Security.loadPolicyFile().

And, now I am all out of ideas, what else can I possible do?

one!
