[FSF] Video: We must make freedom our goal

Dear free software supporter,

In this video I explain the inspiration behind the free software
movement and the 3 strategic ways in which the Free Software Foundation

We were originally looking at a get-together in November at the BCS (British
Computer Society in London, because that's a nice venue), but this was pushed
back into 2010 as other engagements got in the way. I believe February (but
not at FOSDEM time) is now being considered.

absolutely. I think a face-to-face meeting of interested people is
the thing to do at this stage.

With Paul, we had been thinking about getting together a round
table meeting of Free Software groups and activists in early 2010.

I think there is a lot of room for talking about how FSFE could contribute to the situation in the UK.

Paul Adams and I had previously talked about getting everyone together for a chat sometime in the near future, and I believe Paul and Adriaan de Groot (new FSFE legal department coordinator) continued that conversation after I went to Japan. I've got them in CC along with Christian, FSFE's Executive Director, and Karsten, the President.

I think it's worthwhile to get this ball rolling.

I couldn't mention the money without at least a sentence or two looking
back on AFFS. From recent conversations, it is still remembered by
some for its raising of awareness about Free Software.

I think that's partly why I asked. While I feel that
it would be a good thing, I'm struggling in building
a "business case" for such beast. However a
show of enthusiasm and ideas would suggest a
rethink ;-)

What things could a national group usefully do? Did AFFS wither
because it was a solution looking for a problem? Its aims were:

1. to promote and advance the knowledge, development, use and
application of Free Software pioneered by the Free Software
Foundation and others.

2. to facilitate the exchange of information and views on the use
and development of Free Software.

3. to inform upon the subject of Free Software.

4. to encourage internationalisation and localisation of Free Software.

5. to ensure the continued legal existence of Free Software
within the United Kingdom.

Is that enough to rally people around? How should they be done?
What else could/should be done?

I've posted my thoughts about that previously, so I'm interested
in what others have to say about the way forwards.

Hi there,

I feel honoured to have the opportunity to disburse this
money from the community to FOSS projects for the benefit
of the voluntary sector - a sector which has one of the
lowest uptakes of Free Software.

An announcement is up at http://goodGNUs.org/ & follow-ups
will appear there too. Briefly, we are working on financial
software for credit unions, which has the potential to
scale beyond CUs, and also a collaborative project on
an entirely-FOSS cloud project for the sector.

Beyond this, I remain interested in what scope there
is for a national group for Free Software advocacy
in the UK now that AFFS is gone, and would love to
hear thoughts on this.

The funds remaining in its, (the AFFS), bank account have been disbursed as
follows, two thirds, £2307, to the FSFE, and one third, £1154, as a grant,
to a UK project to develop software. This latter sum includes the £1000
which had been donated to the AFFS by UK Free Software Network Ltd., which
was intended for use within the UK, for which many thanks.

The recipient of the project grant will shortly make an announcement on the
projects to which the money will be directed.

Сложих кука на хранилището на gtp, която да проверява дали съобщението при
подаване не е празно и тогава то се отхвърля.
Проверката e дали съдържа поне един знак
grep [a-zA-Z0-9]

Подавайте с svn ci -m 'MESSAGE' като замените MESSAGE със съобщението.

Ако се появят проблеми, докладвайте.

Debian Installer: please think about updating translations

Hi,

This mail is sent to all people who contributed to the last version of the
Debian Installer "sublevel 1" translations, for the installation software of
the Debian distribution (which is also used in the Ubuntu installer).

Debian Installer is constantly evolving and we're still quite far away from
the planned freeze of the entire Debian distribution (which should happen in
March 2010). Also, even though a release of Debian Installer is about to
come soon, we're not planning a fully formalized l10n update process yet.

Still, several translations had no single update since Debian Lenny was
released, back in February 2009 (with a release of Debian Installer in
January 2009).

So, as Debian Installer l10n corodinator, I'd like to ask you to consider
updating Debian Installer translations. The most important file, the
"sublevel 1" file, is attached to this mail.

Most of you know well about the D-I l10n process, so you'll know how to get
your hands on the l10n material and how to commit it back. If not,
http://d-i.debian.org/doc/l10n might be useful for you.

Some of you were "just" people who volunteered to complete their language
for the last release of Debian and never mentioned they would commit
themselves to further updates. Still, I'd like to ask you if you could
consider doing such update again.

Some others were just people who once sent a sometimes partial translation
and never, or vera rarely, followed up on it. Even in such case, please
consider doing an update...even a minimal one would be appreciated.

This mailo doesn't give you any deadline...as there is none yet. I however
needed to send a first "prod" round in order to have a rough idea of what we
can expect during the general free when it's time to release.

In any case, thanks for your attention....and good luck for your updates! :-)

Ich meine, die 'Benutzerverwaltung' des Personals (Personal-
Ausweis..Deutschland AG in Organisation, Verwaltung, Verteilung (Politik),
Bildung und Pflege), wie des Betrieblichen- und Industrie-Personals;
die Benutzerverwaltung geht nur gemeinsam oder 'in Eigenregie', aber unbedingt
nur mit Freier Software im Sinne des GNU, wenn es gut werden soll. Oder aber
tendenziell diktatorisch total-kontrolliert.

Freie Software ermöglicht mehr Leuten zu überprüfen, ob sich Hintertüren zur
Überwachung in der Software befinden. In dem Zusammenhang mit Unternehmen
wäre das die IT-Abteilung, welche das dann überprüfen kann. Oder sollten wir
fordern, dass alle Arbeitnehmer den Quelltext der Software überprüfen können
sollten, mit welchen sie zu tun haben?

Disconnection petition now past 13k ... have you signed?

Over 13,000 people have signed the number 10 petition against the Digital Economy Bill in the last two days. People are particularly upset about the three strikes provision where you loose your internet connection based purely accusation and no court involvement. But there are several other bad things in the bill.

Les JM2L commencent Vendredi, nous comptons sur votre présence.
La liste des conférences est désormais définitive et il y en a aura environ 30 !
Vous pouvez trouver le programme sur

des éventuels changements d'horaire)

Les ateliers seront axés sur le multimédia (Blender, Gimp & Inkscape,
Montage DV...), la programmation... ->
http://jm2l.linux-azur.org/-Ateliers- et se dérouleront le samedi.

L'install party proposera Ubuntu "par défaut" (installation par le
réseau), mais j'apporterais des ISO d'autres distributions.
De même, les conférenciers NetBSD et OpenSolaris, ouvriront l'install
party à d'autres OS libres. Le conférencier de Fedora Electronic Lab
apportera son aide pour l'installation de Fedora.

Une lan-party aura également lieu et utilisera LTLJ :

Des ordinateurs seront disponibles, mais il y en aura peu,
apportez-donc (au possible) le votre (portable bien sûr !)
De nombreux jeux seront proposés, selon le choix des gamers.

Ces JM2L sont donc ouvertes à tous : du débutant (ne connaissant même
pas le libre), au professionnel, au passionné et même au "gamer" !

Когато съм превеждал софтуер за защита (обикновено платен), използвал
съм "шпионски софтуер". Обаче честно да си кажа и тогава и сега не ми
харесва как звучи. "Шпионираш софтуер" ми звучи по-точно, защото точно
това прави. Adware съм го писал "Рекламен софтуер", което пак не ми
харесва. Вероятно "рекламиращ софтуер" би било по-точно. Сега остана и
най-омразната ми дума - rootkit. След много гърчене на мозъка и потене,
мисля, че се спрях на "скрит софтуер" или "скрит зловреден софтуер". Пак
не е много точно, но ми харесва повече отколокото "руткит", както го
оставят на много места.

„Шпиониращи програми“ е по-ясно от „шпионски софтуер“ или от „шпионограми“.
