gvSIG Mini + Phone Cache launchment

Hi to everybody,

we announce that gvSIG Mini has been born. gvSIG Mini is a brand-new open-source project (GNU/GPL) aimed to cellular phones. gvSIG Mini is a a free viewer of free access maps based on tile services (OpenStreetMap, YahooMaps, Microsoft Bing, ...), with WMS client, address searching, POIs, routing and more features.

We've also built Phone Cache [2], which is a gvSIG extension for generating a tile cache, usable in gvSIG Mini for Java in off-line mode. It may be downloaded at [3].

gvSIG Mini and Phone Cache have been developed by Prodevelop.

We are pleased to receive your comments, suggestions, contributions,... We are open to collaborate with anyone willing to use or modify this project, or work in similar ones.

Call for Papers for FOSSGIS 2010 in Osnabrück , Germany is open

Hi all,

the FOSSGIS e.V. in Germany and its partners are happy to annonce the Call for
Papers (CfP) for the FOSSGIS Conference 2010, 2nd-5th March 2010, in
Osnabrück. The conference focuses mainly on the german-speaking Community
interested in Free Software for GIS solutions and Free Geodata.

Beside the focus on software projects, there will be a special track and
additional day with OpenStreetMap specific topics. If you are interested to
participate, please have a look at [1] (in German only); for international
speakers please have a look at [2].

Thuban 1.2.2 released.

Much of the work was about updating Thuban with the latest library
dependencies (gdal >= 1.5, sqlite3, owslib, wxpython 2.8).

Of course a number of defects have been fixed.

The Thuban 1.2.x series stabilises slowly and the next release will fix
most of the unicode problems by updating to pyshapelib 0.4.

Feedback is still the best way to improve Thuban. Thanks to all who have
send bug reports, questions, requests, etc.

Notable issues:
- Extension OGR:
- Two tests fail (probably because of an ogr/shapelib problem.)

The failure looks harmless. As the ogr layer support is beta
it did not block the release.
- Is slower than native Shapefile support.
- Classification might not work.
- Extension profiling: makes use of a non-free "profile" module which
therefore will not be available on all python installations.
Consequently it is also not enabled by default.
- Because we enabled translations for the Extensions only recently,
some translations will be outdated more then usual.

Querying and mining uncertain data has received a lot of attention from the research community in recent years due to the enormous increase of geographically referenced data occasioned by developments in IT, digital mapping and remote sensing. The global expansion of Geo Information Systems emphasizes the importance of developing data driven inductive approaches to geographical analysis and modeling. An important problem is that collected data often is inherently imprecise and may contain incomplete, inaccurate or outdated information. Such data arises particular in dynamic environments. Traditional querying and mining approaches are often inapplicable or may extract misleading or plain wrong information when applied to uncertain data.
Therefore, modern data management solutions coping with uncertain data are very important for numerous spatio-temporal applications such as location-based services. The incorporation of the uncertainty of spatio-temporal data increases the quality of query results. However, new problems arise, such as higher computational complexity and the need for proper representation of probabilistic query results. Thus novel querying methods are required.
Querying and mining uncertain spatio-temporal data requires joint effort from multiple research communities. The aim of this workshop is to provide a unique forum for discussing in depth the challenges, opportunities, techniques and applications on the topic of coping with uncertainty in spatial, temporal and spatio-temporal domains.

TOPICS:

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to the following aspects:

- Models for uncertain spatial, temporal and spatio-temporal data
- Managing uncertain spatial, temporal and spatio-temporal data
- Querying uncertain spatial, temporal and spatio-temporal data
- Probabilistic spatial query processing

- Probabilistic similarity search

SUBMISSION INSTUCTIONS:

We welcome submissions of both technical papers and vision/position papers. We have two categories of papers and presentations:

- Full research paper: up to 8 pages (20 min. talk)
- Short technical or vision paper: up to 4 pages (5-10 min. talk)

Authors are invited to submit full, original, unpublished research papers that are not being considered for publication in any other forum. Manuscripts should be submitted in PDF format and formatted using the ACM camera-ready templates available at: http://www.acm.org/sigs/pubs/proceed/template.html

Brandon,

Thanks, I've fixed this by explicitly removing the root node in the case
when last object is removed from the tree. I also now check for empty
trees in methods objects and dump. I added your tests to the test suite.

The new version 0.06 is (or will soon be) in CPAN.

Strange behavior in Tree::R CPAN module

So, I was using the Tree::R module, and I ran into a strange problem, so
I wrote a small unit test to test the problem, and it appears the source
of the bug may be in Tree::R itself. The underlying cause seems to be
that when you remove everything from a Tree::R object and then insert
something back into the same Tree::R object, the resulting number of
objects in the Tree is no longer correct. Here's a small unit test that
reproduces the bug:

use warnings;

use Test::More tests => 5;

BEGIN { use_ok('Tree::R'); }

my $r_tree = Tree::R->new();

isa_ok($r_tree, 'Tree::R');

my $rects = {
1 => [0, 0, 10, 20],
2 => [20, 0, 10, 20],
3 => [0, 30, 10, 20],
4 => [20, 30, 10, 20],
};

for my $rect (keys %$rects) {
$r_tree->insert($rect, @{$rects->{$rect}});
}

{
my @objects;
$r_tree->objects(\@objects);

is(scalar(@objects), 4);
}

for my $rect (keys %$rects) {
$r_tree->remove($rect);

Important improvements have been made to ease of use, advanced metadata editing, performance and interoperability making it one of the most advanced, if not the most advanced geospatial metadata catalog available on the market today.

The software provides an easy to use web interface to search geospatial data across multiple catalogs, combine distributed map services in the embedded map viewer, send annotated interactive maps to friends by email, publish geospatial data using the online metadata editing tools and optionally the embedded GeoServer map server. Administrators have the option to manage user and group accounts, configure the server through web based and desktop utilities and schedule metadata harvesting from other catalogs.

You will find support for a number of metadata formats (ISO19115/19119 following ISO19139, FGDC and Dublin Core), a number of catalog interfaces (OGC-CSW2.0.2 ISO profile client and server, OAI-PMH client and server, GeoRSS server, GEO OpenSearch server, WebDAV harvesting, GeoNetwork to GeoNetwork harvesting support).

A single, platform independent installer allows to install and run the software on a PC or a server on Windows, Linux and Mac OS X. The installer can be downloaded as an executable Windows file or as a platform independent .jar installer. It creates a Start menu on Windows computers. Command line installations are also possible for remote installations. Please refer to chapter 6 of the manual for detailed installation instructions.

The GeoNetwork community has been expanding quickly over the last years. The current release has been possible because of all those that contributed to the project through code contributions, testing, bug reports and fixes as well as many suggestions.

GeoNetwork opensource is part of the Open Source Geospatial Foundation (OSGeo, http://www.osgeo.org) software stack, providing software you can trust tobe free, open and sustainable. Voluntary support is provided through mailing lists, websites and online forums.

Several companies also provide commercial support to help organizations to implement, integrate and maintain the software. You can find them in the Service Provider directory on the OSGeo website.

Dear List,

52°North developers continue preparation for the upcoming WSC.Web 2.0.1. With the release of the 52N Security API 2.0.3, another major improvement has been achieved. This release prepares the WSC.Web implementation to support facade access restrictions not only based on a single IP address, but also IP address ranges and subnet masks - a feature that will be available in the upcoming WSC.Web 2.0.1.

The 52N Security 2.0.3 has fixed the following bugs:

Bug 245: Support specification of IP restriction ranges
Bug 241: URLs to protected service are not exchanged properly in service responses
Bug 243: Do not use XPath to extract SessionInfo information from XML

Please note that this is just a release of the API modules. The applications based on this API -- WAS, WSS, and WSC.Web -- have yet to be updated. A new Version - the 52N Security 2.0.4 - will be released shrotly.

Our 1.0.x 'stable' release series are part of our effort to provide a

in our stable series contains only bug fixes and no new features. For a

Our 'unstable' release series are provided to offer users a chance to

OSIRIS (Open architecture for Smart and Interoperable networks in Risk management based on Insitu Sensors) is a Sixth Framework Program Integrated Project of the European Commission, aligned with GMES (Global Monitoring for Environment and Security). The OSIRIS project was initiated in 2006 to evaluate and improve the OGC SWE architecture and is now entering its last few months.

The Institute for Geoinformatics is hosting a final public OSIRIS SWE Workshop on March 23 - 24, 2009. In addition to providing an insight into the OSIRIS project results, the OSIRIS project partners invite users of SWE components to share their practical experience concerning SWE applications and discuss future needs regarding the advancement of the SWE architecture.

Intevation Geospatial [1] is focused on Application Development,

This release is the culmination of literally hundreds of hours of work
by a team of developers, translators, documentation writers, and
graphics designers.

QGIS began life in February of 2002, with the first release in June of
the same year. The initial goal was to create a viewer for PostGIS data
that ran on Linux. From those humble beginnings, QGIS has become a true
cross-platform application that runs on all major versions of unix,
Linux, as well as Mac and Windows. It supports editing and map
composition as well as integration with GRASS to provide powerful GIS
capability. QGIS has been translated into many languages by a dedicated
internationalization team.

At 1.0 we provide a stable API from which you can develop custom
solutions in Python or C++. Even though 1.0 is fresh, there are a number
of exciting developments underway in both the core application and
plugins. Although it took nearly 7 years to get to version 1.0, I think

The 52°North Geoprocessing Community is proud to announce the release of the Web Processing Service Version 2.0! This new release contains the following changes and extensions:

Sextante (http://www.sextantegis.com/en/index.htm) processes integration: the current 52N WPS now provides more than 220 Sextante geoalgorithms (http://forge.osor.eu/plugins/wiki/index.php?id=13&type=g) as real WPS processes. Sextante support can easily be enabled/disabled and does not hinder custom developments of individual processes.
GRID support: any existing process or algorithm can be reused and distributed in the grid for parallel execution. This release enables the user to easily outsource geoprocessing tasks to an external data processing center. It fully supports the widely adopted UNICORE 6 grid middleware. In addition, it is possible to support other grid middlewares (e.g. Globus Tookit 4). No administrative access to the grid infrastrucutre is necessary, only a valid certificate for accessing the target system is required.
internal architecture redesign with new flexible bindings of different internal datastructures (e.g. Geotools Datamodel)
support for (very large) rasters
new Geotiff parser and generator
improved asychronous datahandling + download of stored files
several bugfixes
extended Tutorial: it guides the user through the process of setting up the 52N WPS, creating a new process, as well as executing and exporting the process.

The 52N Web Processing Service enables the deployment of geo-processes on the web. It features a pluggable architecture for processes and data encodings. The implementation is based on the current OpenGIS specification: 05-007r7.

In downloading a section of VMAP1 data, I get a gz file (tar). I have been looking all over for ways to open this thing, and I can't seem to find one that works. Some sites say to open it directly, but when I try this I am told it is an unrecognized format and am asked to select a program with which to open it. Any suggestions would be great!

deegree day 2009 on May 26th and May 27th

Bonn, December 15th, 2008

The yearly community meeting of the open source project deegree is going
to take place for the forth time on May 27th in Bonn, Germany.

Major project activities during the last year were coordinate
transformation, meta data management, the incubation process with OSGeo,
as well as the new deegree3 components Web Processing Service and Sensor
Observation Service. These, as well as other issues will be subject of
the lectures and discussions or deegree day 2009.

Participation will be free of charge - thanks to the support of our
sponsors. You are invited to hold a lecture or offer a tutorial on
deegree day. Presentations and tutorials should be of general interest
to the participants of deegree day and should focus on aspects of the
deegree project.

On May 26th, the pre-conference day, advanced topics workshops will
offer the possibility to gain active insight in special deegree

deegree day 2009 am 26. und 27. Mai

Der vierte deegree day, jährliches Treffen der Community des Open
Source-Projekts deegree, findet am 27. Mai in Bonn statt.
Koordinatentransformation, Metadaten-Management, OSGeo-Inkubation sowie
die neuen deegree3-Komponenten Web Processing Service und Sensor
Observation Service sind nur die wichtigsten Projektaktivitäten aus dem
letzten Jahr. Sie und viele andere sind Gegenstand der Vorträge und
Diskussionen im Rahmen des deegree day.

Die Teilnahme an der Veranstaltung ist, dank der Unterstützung durch
Sponsoren, weiterhin kostenlos. Sie sind eingeladen, einen Vortrag oder
ein Tutorial auf dem deegree day
zu halten. Vorträge und Tutorials sollten von allgemeinem Interesse für
die Teilnehmer des deegree day sein und sich mit Aspekten des
deegree-Projekts befassen.

Am 26. Mai, dem Vortag des deegree day, finden Intensiv-Workshops zu
verschiedenen Themen statt. Sie bieten die Möglichkeit, sich unter
Anleitung eines erfahrenen Entwicklers oder Anwenders aktiv einen
Einblick in einzelne deegree-Anwendungen zu verschaffen und anhand von
praxisnahen Beispielen zu erproben. Erstmals wird es auch einen
Einsteiger-Workshop zu deegree geben, in dem erste Schritte bei der
Nutzung von deegree vermittelt werden. Der Besuch der Intensiv-Workshops
ist - im Gegensatz zum deegree day selbst - kostenpflichtig.

New 52North Web Security 2.0 Releases

Dear Freegis list,

The 52°North Security & GeoRights Management Community announces the release of the Security API track 2.0 software. This new development track contains major improvements concerning configuration and stability. The WAS 2.0, WSS 2.0, WSC.Web 2.0 - all based on the 2.0 API - are compatible on the service interface level with the 1.2 and older versions of the services, but the configuration format has changed.

The most interesting new feature is the Web Security Service's "Multi-WSS" capability. It allows the user to protect more than one service with a single WSS instance. Other important changes and additions are as follows.

Web Authentication Service - WAS 2.0 http://52north.org/maven/project-sites/security/was/2.0/index.html
* no configuration is necessary, due to a new configuration management,
* the WAS protocol was extended to provide for anonymous user login,
* the login module interface is fully JAAS compliant,
* it is based on the 52N Security API 2.0.

Web Security Service - WSS 2.0 http://52north.org/maven/project-sites/security/wss/2.0/index.html
* no configuration is necessary, due to a new configuration management,
* the login module interface is fully JAAS compliant,
* any number of services can be protect with one WSS instance
* it is based on the 52N Security API 2.0.

Web Security Client - WSC.Web 2.0 http://52north.org/maven/project-sites/security/wscweb/2.0/index.html
* it now processes license preconditions presented by a license enabled WSS,
* it is based on the 52N Security API 2.0.

Security API 2.0 http://52north.org/maven/project-sites/security/api/2.0/index.html
* it has a completely revamped configuration,
* the authentication API is JAAS compliant,
* the facade API is able to process license preconditions,
* the new PDP implementation works with XACML based SOAP service,
* it has an improved ticket evaluation, due to broadened period of validity for the SAML ticket,
* the WSS is now able to embed license precondition information into the capabilities,
* the WSS is able to protect multiple service instances,
* it provides an additional web-based UI for WSS configuration using a browser.

The community is currently working on the next releases - the work being driven by the community's OGC OWS-6 participation. As a result, development mainly focusses on new interfaces based on the Web Services Security SOAP standard (see http://oasis.org). The community is also intent upon improving the exisiting releases, particularly in regards to the usability.

New 52North Web Security 1.2 Releases

Dear freegis list,

52°North's Security & GeoRights Management Community announces the final releases of the Security API track 1.2.

The Security API track 1.2 - the basis for the WAS, WSS, and WSC.Web 1.2 versions - has finally been released one and a half years after the first release candidate. This 1.2 release "family" consolidates the development work of the past few years. The following features are now included in the applications and API.

The Web Authentication Service - WAS 1.2 http://52north.org/maven/project-sites/security/was/1.2/index.html
* now uses default values for empty or missing configuration parameters,
* is based on the 52N Security API 1.2.0.

The Web Security Service - WSS 1.2 http://52north.org/maven/project-sites/security/wss/1.2/index.html
* now uses default values for empty or missing configuration parameters,
* is based on the 52N Security API 1.2.0.

WSC.Web 1.2 http://52north.org/maven/project-sites/security/wscweb/1.2/index.html
* has undergone major changes to the underlying API,
* is based on the 52N Security API 1.2.0.

The Security API 1.2 http://52north.org/maven/project-sites/security/api/1.2/index.html
* allows configuration files for WAS and WSS to work with default values for selected properties if they are missing,
* provides a new PDP implementation (PermissionCollectionPDP).

The community has decided to freeze development, aside from major bug fixes, in this track and to concentrate on developing the Security API 2.0.

New 52°North release: ILWIS Open 3.5.02

Dear freegis list,

The ILWIS community has just published a new release - ILWIS 3.5.02 ! The following functions and parameters are now working properly:

the interactive color composite,
the parameters %r, %k, and some other '%' parameters,
the MapIter parameters.

In ILWIS Open 3.5.01, the following bugs were fixed:

the expression errors is now properly communicated,
the MapIterProp has been reintroduced (was ommitted during the original conversion of the applications to a plugin model),
the SimpleCalc has been reintroduced (was ommitted during the original conversion of the applications to a plugin model),
the History works properly again.
