 Mobilizing to save General Photography

Gathering at the Salon de la Photo
Friday, October 16, 2009,
11am to Paris Porte de Versailles

The UPC and SAIF Freelens have launched an appeal "Save photography" that has now raised more than 13 000 signatures.

We are organizing a rally at 11 am at the entrance of the salon with Gilette "DR" to demand the convening of the Estates General of photography.
This summer, at events in Arles and Perpignan, we addressed the new Minister of Culture, Mr. Frederic Mitterrand, to ask him to consider the issues raised in this appeal and find solutions.

At Perpignan, Frederic Mitterrand, has assured us of his full understanding and its deep sympathy, and he will do everything possible to resolve point by point everything legitimately aroused our indignation. First and foremost the question of "DR", but also all issues of non-compliance with the code of intellectual property, copyright-free photos, etc.. He promises that everything will be addressed and this with the utmost seriousness and as soon as possible.

Time passes and despite the good will of our minister, the problems remain and are growing. We must continue our advocacy and our voice. To ensure the success of this new action we are counting on your presence.

Following this gathering, a conference debate will take place inside the lounge on the current problems of our profession and the constitution of the States General of photography.

We need to do something like this in every country. How about a million artist walk to Washington, DC?

Thanks for the translation, Tom .
For more explanation, UPC means Union des Photographes Createurs .
It is a french Union which gathers all professionnal photographers ( stock photographers,
staff photographers etc..)
SAIF means "Societé des Auteurs des arts visuels et de l'image fixe" which is in charge of
collecting the money  from the Collective Rights and of distributing it to the photographers .
DR means "Droits reservés" . It is the credit that the publishers use when they publish an image and they don't know the copyright holder . Similar to orphan works .
