Tulawikaan sa Agosto

Isang seminar ukol sa panulaan at wikang Filipino ang idaraos sa 27 Agosto 2008, Miyerkules, mula 8:00-5:00 ng hapon sa TARC (Thomas Aquinas Research Complex) Seminar Rooms 1 at 2 sa UST. Pinamagatan itong Tulawikaan, isang serye ng mga panayam ng dalubwikang kasapi ng LIRA, ang organisasyon ng mga makatang nagsusulat sa Filipino. Ilan sa mga tagapagsalita ay sina Prof. Vim Nadera, Jr. ng UP Diliman/UST, Prop. Michael Coroza ng Ateneo de Manila University, Prop. Romulo Baquiran, Jr. at Dr. Lilia Antonio ng UP Diliman.

Ang pangkalahatang paksa ay ang pagtuturo ng wika sa pamamagitan ng tula. Ilan sa mga tatalakayin ay: kasaysayan ng wika, sintaksis, varayti ng wika at ilang pamamaraan ng paglinang ng pagkamalikhain ng mga mag-aaral. Ipapakita ng mga tagapagsalita ang pagiging behikulo ng panulaang Filipino sa pagtuturo ng mga nabanggit na paksa.

SALOY 2008: Kumperensya ng mga Estudyante ng Wikang Filipino

Inaanyayahan ng Departamento ng Filipino ng Pamantasang De La Salle ang mga estudyante sa kolehiyo para sa SALOY 2008: Kumperensya ng mga Estudyante ng Wikang Filipino. Ito ay gaganapin sa ika-14 ng Agosto 2008, 1:00 - 4:00 ng hapon sa Ariston Estrada, Pamantasang De La Salle – Maynila.

Layunin ng kumperensyang ito na bigyan ng lugar ang mga estudyante upang maibahagi at talakayin ang kanilang mga pananaw at ideya tungkol sa wikang Filipino. Ang paksa ay kailangang tumalakay sa wikang Filipino at sa iba pang kaugnay nito, tulad ng kulturang popular, mass media, sikolohiya, kasaysayan, ekonomiks at iba pa.

Para sa mga nais magbasa ng kanilang papel o naisagawang pananaliksik, kailangang magpadala ng abstrak na di lalagpas sa 150 salita at single space. Kasama na rito ang pangalan ng awtor, kolehiyo/pamantasang kinabibilangan, tirahan, telepono at email address. Ang pinal na papel ay di dapat lalagpas sa walong pahina (double space), sa font size na 12, Times New Roman o Arial.

Ang huling araw ng pagsusumite ng abstrak ay sa Hulyo 19, 2008. Ipadala ito sa Genaro R. Rules of the Contest

1. The Contest is open to all Filipino citizens of all ages (including Filipinos holding dual citizenship) from June to August 2008.

2. The theme of the contest is "Amor, Vida, Patria" (Love, Life, Nation). The story maybe historical or contemporary in subject matter. The work must follow the three-act structure of the sarsuwela and must be written in Filipino.

3. The author must submit the entry to the Board of Judges. The deadline for submission is 29 August 2008 Friday, 5 p.m. The office of the UP-CAL closes at 5 p.m. Entries sent by mail or courier should be postmarked no later than the same date of the deadline.

4. All entries are to be submitted to the Board of Judges, U.P. College of Arts and Letters, University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City. The said College is in the Faculty Center (FC), UP Diliman campus.

5. All entries shall consist of a soft copy (CD in Word or Text Format) and three (3) hard copies (Times New Roman, Helvetica, or Arial Narrow fonts, 12 points, double spaced in 81/2 x 11 inches coupon bond). The recorded score (CD in MP3 or other PC compatble format) shall also be included. The author's and the composer's real names and addresses must not appear on the entry; rather, they should seal in a letter envelope both the prescribed Official Entry Form and Authorization Form, together with their bio-notes or brief résumé; and this envelope should be submitted together with the entry. On this sealed envelope should be written or typed the title of the entry and the authors' pen name.

6. In submitting the entry, the author warrants that the work is his/her own and that he/she has absolute ownership of all intellectual property rights thereto. Together with the entry, the author should submit the Official Entry Form and the Authorization Form for the Contest.

7. The submission of the entry must be accompanied by the author's written consent to abide by the rules of the Contest, duly signed by the author.

8. Authors may submit only one (1) entry.

9. The judges shall choose one (1) winner to be announced on September 30, 2008. The author and the composer shall equally divide between them the contest cash prize.

10. Winning entries shall remain with, and become the property of, the U.P. College of Arts and Letters which shall have prior right to its production and publication.

11. In order that the winning entries may be accessible to the public, the authors grant, assign and transfer to the U.P. College of Arts and Letters the following rights without any necessity of any payment other than the prize already awarded: (a) to publish from time to time the winning entry or selection or portion thereof as it may at its discretion determine; (b) to designate or appoint editors to edit the work or any portion thereof to suit the demands of publication; (c) to furnish a reasonable number of copies of the work to the National Library or other libraries; (d) to make the work available for downloading on the Internet or other electronic medium; and/or (e) allow scholars and students to make copies for their research.

In making the works accessible to scholars, students, and lovers of literature, the College only intends to promote a wider literary appreciation of the works.

12. The prize for the winning entry is P200,000.00.

13. The U.P. College of Arts and Letters has the sole right to designate the persons who shall constitute the Board of Judges for each contest category.

14. The decision of the majority of the Board of Judges for the contest is final.

15. All parties submitting entries to the UP Sarsuwela Writing Contest are deemed to have accepted all the rules of the contest, and agree to abide by them.

The Unyon ng mga Manunulat sa Pilipinas now accepts nominations for the Gawad Pambansang Alagad ni Balagtas and Gawad Paz Marquez Benitez for Outstanding Educators.

Qualified for the Gawad Balagtas are 1) living Filipino writers who have contributed outstanding works in any language currently used in the Philippines; 2) dedicated their lives and talents to the development, propagation, and promotion of any Philippine literature; 3) accepted and recognized by their peers or by their leaders for their significant pioneering work or their contribution to the enrichment of their particular literary form.

The latest Gawad Balagtas winners are Charlson Ong (fiction in English), Jose R. Munsayac (fiction in Filipino), Joaquin Sy (translation and essay), and Prescillano N. Bermudez (fiction in Iluko).

Outstanding educators in the field of literature and communication are qualified to be nominated for the Gawad Marquez Benitez. Roque Angel J. Ferriols, S.J. is the 2007 awardee.

Individuals, or literary groups or institutions may nominate writers and teachers for the respective awards. Each nomination must contain proper documentation or nominee's literary career, his/her biodata, and recent photo (passport size, four copies).

1. The message of the haiku must deal with appreciation of environment, or respect towards nature, or any observation about the natural world.

a. In Filipino, haiku must be in 7-5-7 syllables. The lines may use any of the following rhyme schemes: a-a-a, a-b-a, a-a-b, a-b-b, or a-b-c.
b. The Filipino haiku entry must be accompanied by a free or direct English translation below the page.
c. In English, the 5-7-5 syllables should be observed with or without a rhyme scheme.
d. A maximum of two (2) haiku entries are allowed per contestant.

Para sa buwan ng Mayo, inihahandog ng LIRA ang "Sumulat, Umawit," isang panayam sa pagsulat ng awiting Filipino. Si Heber Bartolome ng Banyuhay ang panauhing tagapagsalita. Gaganapin ang panayam sa ika-24 ng Mayo, Sabado, 9:00 ng umaga sa kanyang studio-gallery sa # 170 Banlat Road, Tandang Sora, Quezon City.

Ang mga awit ni Heber Bartolome ay ginagamit at pinag-aaralan sa mga doctoral thesis ng mga iskolar sa iba't ibang pamantasan. Lumaki si Heber sa iba't ibang bahagi ng Katagalugan kung saan man madestino ang kanyang ama. Ang unang dalawang taon niya sa high school ay ginugol sa Philippine Wesleyan University sa Cabanatuan. Natigil siya nang dalawang taon ngunit sa halip na umistambay, nagtinda siya ng kendi, sigarilyo, gulaman, diyaryo, komiks, at iba pa upang suportahan ang magulang sa pagpapaaral ng nakatatandang kapatid. Tinapos niya ang high school sa Novaliches. Sa sariling pagsisikap, nakatapos siya ng Bachelor of Fine Arts at M.A. Philippine Literature sa U.P. at naging guro ng panitikan sa De La Salle University (1981-1984). Patuloy si Heber sa adhikang mapaunlad ang kulturang maka-Filipino lalo na sa paglikha ng mga awit. Ayon sa kanya, "ang awit ang pinakamabisang tulay tungo sa kaisipan at puso ng tao lalo na ng kabataan. Ito ang tulay na dapat pagtawiran ng mga proyektong pangkabataan tungo sa kaunlaran ng isang lipunan."

Ang "Sumulat, Umawit" ay bahagi ng buwanang serye ng mga panayam ng LIRA sa pagpapalaganap at pagpapaunlad ng ating panulaan at panitikan. Ang Linangan sa Imahen, Retorika at Anyo (LIRA) ay isang organisasyon ng mga makatang nagsusulat sa wikang Filipino.

Bukas pa po ang LIRA sa mga nais magpatalâ upang lumahok sa taunang klinikang pampanulaan. Ang huling araw po ng pagpapatalâ ay iniurong sa ika-20 ng Mayo, 2008. Magpadala po ng isang pahinang bio-data na may 1×1 ID picture, kasama ang limang tula sa Filipino, sa liraworkshop@gmail.com, o ilagay ito sa pigeon hole ni Prof. Vim Nadera sa UP Institute of Creative Writing, 2/F Faculty Center, College of Arts and Letters, UP Diliman. Ang regular na mga klase sa klinika ay gaganapin buong araw ng Sabado at Linggo mula Hunyo hanggang Agosto.

SPAM and bad posts are common problems for forums. Traditionally, users send e-mail to the moderator to report spam. However, with Nabble, you manage spam by rating it as spam. This is equivalent to a 0 star rating. You do this by clicking on the to the left of the stars. If other users also rate down this post, its average rating will fall below the 2-star minimum and it will disappear from the default view.

Such bad rating will gradually carry over to the author's other posts, causing his future posts to be automatically filtered out from the view. This way the forum is self-moderated by all participants.

Ka Bay passes away

Bayani Abadilla, writer, professor and journalist, passed away last May 14 after a long battle with lymphoma.

Son of pioneering Filipino modernist poet Alejandro G. Abadilla, Bayani was a veteran of the First Quarter Storm. He was one of the founders of the progressive writers group Paksa or Panulat Para sa Kaunlaran ng Sambayanan and wrote for various underground and opposition newspapers and publications during Martial Law.

After the fall of the Marcos dictatorship, Bayani taught at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines upon PUP Pres. Nemesio Prudente's return to the university in 1986.

He continued to write for progressive publications like Ang Masa. He also wrote for the Filipino broadsheet Diario Uno during the Estrada administration.

He was a well-loved Literature professor in PUP and scholar of the Filipino language until his retirement in 2003.

In 2006, he published his first collection of poems, Sigliwa Kamao.

At the time of his death, he was associate editor for Pinoy Weekly, a progressive newsmagazine in the Filipino language.

He is survived by wife Patricia, son Magtanggol and daughters Lualhati, Malaya and Filipinas. He was 67 years old.

He is interred at Funeraria Paz at Araneta Avenue, Quezon City. A tribute for Ka Bay will be given by friends and colleagues will be held on May 17, Saturday, 7pm. He will be laid to rest on May 18, Sunday.
