Frustration on Groovy/Eclipse plugin

Hi folks, I'm desperate here. I tried to install the Groovy/Eclipse plugin on my machine (which used to work), and I tried everything: installing from the remote site, downloading the zip and installing locally, even blowing away eclipse and starting from scratch. In every case I am presented with this set of errors:

Cannot complete the install because one or more required items could not be found.
  Software being installed: Groovy-Eclipse Feature 2.0.0.xx-20091009-2200-e35 (org.codehaus.groovy.eclipse.feature.feature.group 2.0.0.xx-20091009-2200-e35)
Missing requirement: Groovy Compiler 1.6.5 Feature 1.6.5.xx-20091009-2200-e35 (org.codehaus.groovy16.feature.feature.group 1.6.5.xx-20091009-2200-e35) requires 'org.codehaus.groovy [1.6.5.xx-20091009-2200-e35]' but it could not be found
  Cannot satisfy dependency:
    From: Groovy-Eclipse Feature 2.0.0.xx-20091009-2200-e35 (org.codehaus.groovy.eclipse.feature.feature.group 2.0.0.xx-20091009-2200-e35)
    To: org.codehaus.groovy16.feature.feature.group [1.6.5.xx-20091009-2200-e35]

It seems to be wanting Groovy 1.6 for some reason but I thought the 2.0 plugin installs 1.7 (or even if it's 1.6, it's supposed to install that anyway!).  Anyway this used to work on this machine so I don't know what happened. Anyone have any ideas for what I can do? Right now I'm using this URL to get the packages from codehouse:

http://dist.codehaus.org/groovy/distributions/greclipse/snapshot/e3.5/

My eclipse is the most recent (Galileo SR1)

Thanks,
futureboy

I don't know if its related but I still can't install the plugin
without uninstalling the old one first. I thought this was supposed
to be fixed but it isn't - at least not for me. I too am running
Galileo SR1.

How do you uninstall the old one? I tried my best to remove it but somehow it's still looking for it.

The weirdest thing is that I tried a completely fresh install of Eclipse so I don't know what could be causing the problem. I did however point it at an old workspace so maybe it loaded old settings?

Damn eclipse is such a PITA sometimes!

UPDATE: I just tried reinstalling Eclipse AGAIN but pointing to a blank workspace. No dice, same problem. I can't believe I'm the only one having this problem?

UPDATE: I tried installing on a completely separate MACHINE and still it has this issue. WTF????

I just did a regular uninstall. Be careful though, there are 5 files to
uninstall, not just 4. The last one's name doesn't start with "groovy"
so you can easily miss it. Groovy is in the name though, just not at the
start. Good luck.

OK I solved it. The update site failed, the most recent archive failed, but the SECOND most recent archived worked fine. Not sure why this is, but I'm finally cooking with gas (3 hours later)

archive-2.0.0.xx-20091009-2200-e35.zip 10-Oct-2009 00:41 24M   <---- FAIL
archive-2.0.0.xx-20091008-1900-e35.zip 08-Oct-2009 21:53 36M   <---- DISCO!

I guess the big change in file size should have been an indicator....

Just a comment on recent changes.  We are going through another slight
restructure to the download in preparing for the (not far off) M1
release of groovy eclipse.  This is having teething problems again,
but we'll resolve them as fast as we can.  The recent reduction in
size is because we have removed some superfluous jars from the
download.  But, yes, groovy eclipse does include both 1.6.5 groovy and
1.7beta1 (it will include 1.7beta2 when I see it is released).  The
user is then free to choose which they want to use - however we *also*
have issues with switching compiler levels right now, and are actively
working on that also.  Once M1 is out there will be one stable update
site that you can rely on (the M1 site) and then a separate dev update
site for those wishing to stay on the bleeding edge (I'm sorry it is
proving to be as bloody as it has been over the last few weeks).

I have temporarily removed the groovy16 feature in order to get the
update site working again.  I will be re-enabling the feature once I
have a few seconds to look the build problems it is causing.
