Our Civil Rights Social action group will now be branching off into two separate social action groups. Mark Barrett will be coordinating the Campaign for Real Democracy group and we would like to welcome Steve Brewer, who is now the coordinator For our new Human Rights action group.

19th AUGUST

Many of the groups coordinators will be attending this meeting and those that are unable to attend will be sending a representative of their group…to register for this meeting http://www.meetup.com/21stCenturyNetwork/

UPDATES ON MINI MEETUPS

To date we have had several successful mini meetups and we are now booked until the end of the year

FAIR TRADE MINI MEETUP REPORT

Firstly thank you to all those who attended the Fair trade mini meet up. I felt that this was a really interesting session and I learnt a great deal about Shared Interest and how to get involved. Many thanks again to Sally Reith from Shared interest - your talk was fantastic and very informative.

Sally is going to discuss ideas and information that we generated at the session with her team and will then put up any further information on ideas going forward or those they are unable to action and why.

I am trying to arrange a date with a traidcraft speaker to run a workshop session, perhaps in August.

Please do let me know if you have any suggestions / ideas for events or speakers we could organise.

‘This is one of the more interesting groups that allows attendees to listen and participate in debates on issues facing real people. In my view the most important reality of this group is the people who attend really care and more importantly we can really make a collective difference. In this episode Sally Reith from Shared Interest a UK based operation with regional offices in Costa Rica and Nairobi delivered a very impressive presentation about the work of her organization. In short ‘Shared Interest’ lend money to Fair Trade certified producers and purchasers at rates that are much lower than commercial lenders. It is true that Shared Interest is the “best kept secret” of the fair Trade movement and I personally believe their business model is a great alternative to ‘just giving’. I look forward to hearing from you all soon,
Ann-Marie Fair Trade Coordinator

SCIENCE AND RELIGION MINI MEETUP …

Jay Lakhani Science And Religion Coordinator

‘The talk I gave at the start to gel the group was well received. All participants were then given an opportunity to react to the talk and most were very favourable to what they heard and wanted to have further meetings to develop this theme. Dave was an excellent co-ordinator. Let us see where we go from here. My thanks to the group members who shared some very interesting insights‘.( jay lakhani)

‘Just arrived home from 21st Century Network Science and Spirituality mini meet up we were treated to a tour de force overview from Jay Lakhani, Hindu businessman and Quantum Physicist advocating a new spirtual humanism which integrates the insights of both sages and scientist. The yearning in the group for a unity of purpose and enquiry into these subjects was palpable throughout the evening’. (Dave Pendel Coordinator)

‘I thought it was very well presented and touched on ideas that I am very keen to explore and I sincerely hope that this meetup will continue It's important that a forum can be set up to continue the dialogue of each meeting, to enable all to have a more in depth say, as I'm sure, we will have only a limited time in each meeting Once again just want to thank Dave for his competent chairing of the meeting and to Jay for his expertise and ideas and enthusiasm on the subject It was also apparent that all the members had various interesting values to bring into the equation I look forward to the next meeting ‘ (21st century network member)
