I thought this email from way back might be relevant to the "rising pitch" problem which occurred in the past due to missing punctuation.  Maybe you just need to punctuate the material to be spoken.  Maybe there's a bug in the port to be fixed.

I think the problem that I have been experiencing is indeed related to this,
although it might well be exacerbated by a bug. To be more precise, the only
falls in pitch occur (1) on the last word of the utterance, or (2) on the last
word preceding punctuation.
