GIMP 2.4.6 crashes when creating new image, resizing or saving ...

Dear all.

I'm not sure what exactly has happened and at what point. I use gimp
3.4.6 (also previous version 3.4.5) along with windows xp x64. All was
working fine so far, though now GIMP crashes each time I try to create
a new image providing some customised resolution, e.g. 320x240. The
same happens when I attempt resize images or save.

The alleged module responsible for this is:
AppVer: 0.0.0.0 ModName: icm32.dll

Now, I've reinstalled gimp from scratch and this doesn't help. Any
ideas ? It's very annoying cos I don't know whether there was some
corruption of system, or new incompatible updates or what ...

Well, there's your problem.  Your using an untested version from the future.  Probably got mangled in the time stream.

Try closing all programs you have running in system tray before running the
GIMP, and see if the error still occurs. If it doesn't, it's possible that
one of those programs injects something that corrupts GIMP's internal state
into it.

Jernej, well done! This all was down to a piece of software that gets
activated by a chosen hot key combination and acts on a currently
selected text.

Though, is this all really a desired behaviour of gimp?

You're probably a victim of this then:

There's nothing that can be done in GIMP to prevent this crash - author of
the program must update it to include this fix:
