GMES conference: New opportunities for Eastern Europe
For many countries in Europe and all over the world, GMES, the European Earth observation program for globally monitoring the environment and security, is no more only a story. Today many public and private organizations are already benefiting from GMES Services on land monitoring, emergency response, atmosphere, marine environment or security.
The GMES Service Component, led by the European Commission, depends on In- Situ and Earth observation data. An appropriate space infrastructure including a series of Sentinel satellites is being built under the overall responsibility of the European Space Agency. Together with the In-situ data this will ensure the provision of an uninterrupted data and information flow tot he users.
Building on a full and open access principle, the GMES data and information policy will allow GMES to release a great amount of data free of charge to a whole variety of users.
The conference in Bucharest on 3 and 4 May 2012 will inform participants about the status and latest achievements in developing the main components of the GMES program, while clearly demonstrating the invaluable benefits and business opportunities created by GMES. In doing so, the conference will also rise the awareness among key decision makers for the challenges GMES will face in the years to come.
