Is conferencing Possible

Hi guys. Well done on such a great app, we use it for business on about 30 Computers.

We are using ICQ accounts as that is the only protocal I have experience using. Everyone is on ICQ.

I was wondering if it is possible to Conference between several people? If I need to use a different protocal that is fine. Just any way to Conference would be great.

It would be really nice if you could have one box open with everyone on the same page like IRC and the normal box with tabs for the people I am talking to privately.

Yeah, the Recent Buddies group should appear in your buddy
list the same as it would if you were using an official AIM
cilent. The one exception is if you've turned of the Recent
Buddies group using the preferences window in WinAIM. Gaim
does not have a way to re-enable that--you would need to
sign on with WinAIM and toggle the preference.

Summary: Cannot move buddy between groups

Initial Comment:
I can't seem to move any buddies in my buddy list between groups. When using 2.0.0 beta 5, when I try to drag a buddy between groups, their row in the list was highlighted in black and dragged with the mouse, but when I tried to release them into a group, the black row just drifted back to its original position. In 2.0.0 beta 6, the same thing happens, except that the row is white, rather than black. I can move buddies by editing the blist.xml file, but all this does is cause synchronization problems with the server side list.

Am I doing something wrong here? I submitted this in Support Request rather than Bug Reports as I seem to be the only one having the problem.

My operating system is Windows XP SP2, using Gaim 2.0.0beta6 and GTK 2.10.6

Summary: groups and buddies not populating with gaim 2.0.0beta6

Hello,
We are using gaim 2.0.0beta6 with the jabber protocol. We use active directory to populate the users' groups and buddies.
We have a user, who was trying to drop and drag buddies into different groups and as a result, the user is not able to see all of her groups and buddies now.

1) I have tried to have the user add the groups manually, but when she does there are no buddies in them.

2) I have had the user add a buddy manually, but the buddy shows as offline and cannot be IM'ed.

3) I have completely uninstalled the gaim application, including all files and folders in
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\.gaim and in the registry and then re-installing the application.

None of these things have helped.

Has anyone seen this problem before?

Any ideas?

I tried going to add account and typing in the screen name I want, and putting in irc.freenode.net as my server, but every time I click save, even if I try changing the sn, I get an error that says

I have 9 sales people all in the same office. Two are not working. I can login to aim accounts with their screen name and passwords but not through. Added port 5190 to symantec desktop firewall to help. Not corporate firewall because everyone else is working!! I upgraded to latest version with no luck. Why can't these users login through GAIM?

I think I've got conflicting flashing message notification or I'm just not sure how to configure it. I have "Flash window when IMs are received" selected but I also have the message notification plugin enabled. In it I have notify for IM Windows.

In tabbed viewing I often can't seen (other than the user changing to red) that there is a new message. Also, if the tabbed viewing pushes the user out of the main view there is NO WAY to tell if they've sent you a message.

I would just expect that there would be some way to make the taskbar icon continue to flash until focus is gained or something.

Hi,
I have tried gaim for irc, but it doesn't seem to have a good ignore system. For example, I receive a message from, say, user Foobar. If i right-click on Foobar's tab in the chat window, there will appear its menu, but there is not any "ignore" button. Ignore menu entry appears only in channels, when we right-click on people who joined the channel, but IRC protocol allows more!

Can this be fixed?

I have tried 2.0 beta 4 and 6. With the interoperability between Windows Live Messenger and Yahoo messenger, I was hoping that would work through GAIM as well. I have been unsuccessful in doing this. Using GAIM through my hotmail account I can only IM with other MS accounts. Same is true with Yahoo accounts. Is this possible through GAIM? If not is it planned?

1. It would be great if in new version of Gaim we can see information about ICQ-buddy's IM-client, e.g. like in QIP-messenger (www.qip.ru).

2. There is very hard to read some posts in IRC chat window because of some post colours are 'blind' on a white background. I think it is absolutely necessary to be able to change the background colour or even to switch all colours off to B/W-style.

How do you delete temporary away messages that you create but don't save? I've tried restarting and such, but they won't go away.

My away dialogs are extremely clogged now; with typo'd away messages and duplicates.

How do you delete temporary away messages that you create but don't save? I've tried restarting and such, but they won't go away.

My away dialogs are extremely clogged now; with typo'd away messages and duplicates.

Disabling Nudges for MSN on GAIM

I looked through all the settings on Gaim, and I couldn't find any setting to disable nudges all together.

I find these nudges quite annoying, especially when someone is abusing them and constantly sending them. This one person was bragging how he sent me 10,000 nudges in 5 seconds.

That froze my computer for about 15 minutes. I eventually gave up, and rebooted. Lost all the work I was trying to do because of some asshole, I don't even know! :(

Please include this in your next beta release or at least make a simple plugin. GAIM is such a great program, I'm 100% sure this will improve it. Thank you very much.

If you are using Windows and gaim 1.5.0 then it will not work, and you
should upgrade to 2.0.0 beta 5. MSN is broken in 1.5.0 and the earlier
2.0.0 betas.

Since november 2, icq, yahoo messenger and aim doesn't
log in.
The problem occurs in at least 2 computers and whit at

Initial Comment:
Been using gaim exclusively as my im client for
sometime now. Recently installed a new hard drive and
WinXP (this weekend will add dual boot XP/ubuntu 5.10).
Previously had no trouble whatsoever with gaim, but
since installing on new setup have been unable to use
anything other than the default font. When I attempt to
change font color in conversation window or prefs,
nothing shows up (cusor moves, but no text
displays)when I type in either window and must go to
prefs and click "clear formating" button to get
anything at all. Tried uninstalling and re-install from
a fresh download...same deal. How can I get back the
ability to use formatted text?

So autopackage is a package format add-on to a distro. It's
neither .deb or RPM compatible, may or may not track library
versions and virtual packages for collections, and most
definitely is the sole package manager for no distro,
according to the site. So you've got other options if you
don't want to take the 20 minutes and roll your own.

I think you've been bitten by choosing technologies with
more shine than substance, and with gooey centres. Deryni
will tell you that you should be the one to add in
autopackage support, or sit tight until they need it. The
fastest method to resolve this problem is likely to install
Gaim the same way /lib/ld-linux.so.2 was installed on your
system.

I notice that unix PKGs are missing too.

I am using Gaim 1.5.0 in German language with Windows
XP and have (traditional) Chinese characters installed.
Although I can send messages in chinese characters (in
this case through the MSN account) I cannot receive
them, all I get is squares.
It is not terribly important but is there a solution
for it?

I just found out that, if my counterpart is using an English
MSN client, I cannot receive his chinese characters, if he
uses a Chinese MSN client I can! If I use a German MSN
client I can always receive Chinese characters, regardless
what language version the other part is using.

Initial Comment:
I compiled gaim 2.0.0cvs (16-12-2005, around 20:00
GMT+1, if that matters) on IRIX 6.5.27, with the
following tweaks:

1) All needed dependencies from nekoware (supplied by
the www.nekochan.net community).

2) Edited the "configure" script to replace all
instances of "-lnls" by "-lnls -lgnutls". If not, no
SSL support, for some obscure reason.

3) Following configure line:

LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/nekoware ./configure
--enable-nss=no --enable-gnutls=yes
--with-tclconfig=/usr/nekoware/lib
--with-tkconfig=/usr/nekoware/lib --enable-debug

This got me tons of warnings of the type:

ld32: WARNING <number>: weak definition of XXX in
/usr/lib32/libnsl.so preempts that weak definition in
/usr/lib32/mips3/libc.so.

Some other warnings too - I attached config.log.

4) libgadu-config.h:

#include <stdint.h>
needs to be commented out.

5) getopts.c:

#include <string.h>
needs to be added.

6) dnssrv.c: IRIX has no arpa/nameser-compat.h, and no
decent arpa/nameser.h.

#include <arpa/nameser_compat.h>
needs to be commented out;

# define NS_GET16(src, dst) __putshort((unsigned
short) src, dst)
needs to be added. I *hope* this has the exact same
behaviour, but so far it seems to work.

After that, gmake && gmake install, and all went smooth.

forget all about the nameser_compat.h humping :)

Any idea about the gnutls related SIGBUS crash? I wish I
could get more info, but gdb itself dumps core all the
time... heh.

Thanks for the fixes - right now I only need the configure
hack and a way to get NS_GET16 working, to have a gaim build.

I've tried to add a jabber account, at which it crashed in
gnutls. Disabling TLS for the jabber account gives a working
(yet unable to connect) jabber account.Strange thing since
MSN works just fine with that same GnuTLS.

I've tried a different approach this time for the
arpe/nameser.h problem - I inserted the "custom" headers
Bind 9 ships with its source to handle this dns issue on
various platforms, which also builds fine after deleting an
include.

The symbol font isn't usable from GTK+ (Pango really).
Before Pango 1.6.0 it used to crash, now it just isn't used.

Summary: MSN sometimes don\'t deliver messages

Initial Comment:
Sometimes MSN here don't deliver messages when I'm
talking. The message gets sent, but after a while my
fried says that he didn't receive anything.
I try that using a lot of linux distributions, and get
the same error.
This is not often, it happens on about 5% os the
messages i send.

Only on MSN. Gtalk protocol works perfectly.

And a lot of times, too, I get the "message timeout"
error, then I have to close and open the IM windows to
talk normally.

What can this be?

I see exactly this behavior with Google Talk and GAIM. I'd say
it's less than 5% of messages, and once it happens then no
more of my messages are sent. I receive messages just fine
from the other person though.

I don't believe this is Gaim's fault. Many people I speak to
that use the official MSN client also have lots of problems
with messages bouncing or being dropped. I also have the
problem you describe when using both Gaim and MSN.

Summary: New Windows Taking Focus

Initial Comment:
I've been searching for a way to suppress new windows
when set to away, or even all the time (Just minimizing
them to the taskbar).

I'm running Windows XP SP2.

Running Gaim v1.5.0 with the following plugins:
Auto-Reconnect
Auto Reply Plugin
Away Text Box
Buddy List Away Window
Buddy State Notification
Extended Preferences
ExtPlacement
History
Iconify on Away
Release Notification
System Tray Icon
WinGaim Options

Under Interface > Converstations
I have both 'Raise IM Window on Events' and 'Raise Chat
Window on Events' deselected.

I've looked through the prefs.xml file to see if there
was any hidden options that I had missed, but I
couldn't find anything that would make a difference.

Any ideas/suggestions?

not using the lastest version, please upgrade. If you are using
the latest version, please indicate so and reopen this bug.

Summary: gaim1.4.0 seems not to load any plugin

Initial Comment:
Hi,

I'm running a fresh copy of gaim 1.4.0 (the "with
gtk"-Package) on WinXP.

When starting Gaim I recieve the "Add Account"-Window,
but no protocol is listed in the dropdown (don't have
the problem with gaim1.0.0).

There plugin section in the Options-Dialog is also
empty; but the "plugins"-Folder is filled with dll's
like in the old Versions.

Any help would be appreciated,

Hi Daniel,

I can confirm your thoughts, when installing gaim in
c:\programme\gaim\ I don't encounter any problems. gaim is
behaving as in former times ;-)

I think figured out what the problem is.

Current versions of WinGaim have problems running from a
path containing non-ASCII characters. (The problem has
since been fixed).

In the mean time, you can avoid this problem by installing
gaim to a directory containing only ASCII characters.

C:\Programme\Zubeh�r\CommunicationTools\Gaim\plugins exists
and contains all the various dlls?

Gaim isn't even trying to load the plugins from that dir,
which indicates that either it can't read it, or it doesn't
exist. Also, there are errors loading the various stock
icons from
C:\Programme\Zubeh�r\CommunicationTools\Gaim\pixmaps\gaim\buttons
so that indicates that there is something weird about that
path (or it is missing stuff).

If you start gaim from the command line with the -d
parameter, and redirect the output to a file, it should
provide some log information as to why this is happening.
(like this: gaim -d > debug.log)
