Generate a tracklog.

Hi,

I have a I-Gotu GT120 GPS logger. It makes a nice tracklog while I'm
travelling, but it also works as a GPS device while connected to the
PC. Supported by gpsd and all (it talks NMEA over USB-serial using the
navman kernel module).

However, when connected to something that speaks USB, it stops logging
to the internal memory. (under the assumption that the computer is much
better suited to do the logging than a small external device)....

So I thought I'd connect a logging program to gpsd, and generate the
log that way. I've found a few graphical programs that allow logging
of the "live data", but I don't want an extra graphical program. My
laptop is currently very power-starved in the car, so I'd rather not
run another graphical program.

Does anybody know of a simple application that I simply tell "please
log the GPSD coordinates with frequency X  to file Y "...

I've written "good enough for me" stuff while in the car, I could
clean it up and publish if it doesn't exist already.

        Roger.

Q: It doesn't work. A: Look buddy, doesn't work is an ambiguous statement.
Does it sit on the couch all day? Is it unemployed? Please be specific!
Define 'it' and what it isn't doing. --------- Adapted from lxrbot FAQ

sure, try cgpxlogger that comes with it. (or in gpsd-clients
distro package)

ps- mailing list is still kicking; has comment been sought
from the folks who run Berlios and know what's going on?

Another reason we're trying to move away from Berlios is the difficult
of getting any response out of them. One of our criteria for our new
hosting site is that it's someplace where one of the devs can get some
kind of "premium" support from the admins. We don't like having the
site go down, but think we dislike the lack of communication even
more. I was advocating Google Code because I know some admins over
there, Eric knows some people at GNA - I think we just don't want to
be left hanging.

GDB has a 'break' feature; why doesn't it have 'fix' too?

Indeed.  Another consequence is that I'm going to write and publish a
jeremiad on design problems with the hosting site infrastructure.
This incident has rubbed my nose in one of them, which is that
programs like Mailman and bug trackers are data jails - you can get
data into them, but there's no easy way to get a snapshot of their
state back out for backup purposes.
