Gimp Windows Installer failureHello,
I just wanted to install Gimp on my computer for the first time. I tried 2.4.6, 2.4.5 and 2.2.17. In all cases I got the same installer message: "Internal error: failed to get version numbers of _shfoldr.dll." I could not find a DLL with this name on my system. Any hints for me what to do? Thanks. Jan |

Re: Re: Gimp Windows Installer failure - amendmentJan:
I am new to GIMP and this list, but did you see the previous posts about anti virus software and the problems it caused for installation? Some found it necessary to disable their AV software until after the program was installed. Good luck - J. Re: Gimp Windows Installer failure - amendmentThanks,
that was exactly the problem. I do not use Norton, in my case Kaspersky interfered. But why these cryptic misleading messages...?? Norton, on the other hand, was far too intrusive with normal operations and I dumped it. I can imagine it would play havoc with an installer. Kaspersky's problems are well documented. It recently locked up a friend's computer. |

Re: Gimp Windows Installer failure - amendmentIf you insist on paying for an anti-virus program I suppose you could
do so. I've used AVG's free AV software for years, and love it. I install it on every friend's PC who asks my opinion, gladly killing off Norton and McAfee. Between AVG and the Zone Alarm (also free) firewall, I'm amply protected. That, and I stay away from Russian pRon sites.. --- In gimpwin-users@..., "Howard Larson" <hblarson43@...> wrote: > > --- In gimpwin-users@..., Jernej SimonÄiÄ > <jernej.listsonly@> wrote: > > > > On Wed, 06 Aug 2008 01:24:31 -0000, Howard Larson wrote: > > > > > Kaspersky reportedly quarantined Windows Explorer as a virus.
