On the first 6.0 edition (boot with "knoppix" to graphical desktop
directly) is gimp 2.4.7, but 2.6.3 is waiting in Debian/experimental. I
tend to keep the stable version until 2.6 reaches debian/testing, since
I have no experience whether or not 2.6 is ready for productive use yet.
If you have internet access, you can update gimp on Knoppix on-the-fly
with
aptitude update
aptitude install -t experimental gimp
If using a persistent image on memorystick, the update is permanent.
