Globalize plugin and SEO problems: getting rid of country code in URLs?

Hi all!

Just started using globalize and it's a wonderful plugin! Lobve it.

I do have one issue that precludes me from using it, however.

Globalize adds the country code in the URL of every page that is displayed. For example, my site shows this: http://0.0.0.0:3000/en-US

en-US changes based on what the browser is set to.

Now, this will have HUGE implications on SEO! The issue is duplicate pages problem. You see, when people link to pages, they will have country code embedded in them so search engines will potentially index same pages many times and assume the pages are SPAM and delist your site. I've seen this happen with a PHP library that one company I worked for used a few years back.

How do we remove country codes from URLs? Is it possible to have "clean" URLs?

Thank you so much for any advice!

Mike
