Gmail folder retrieval error workaround/bug report

Every time I checked my Gmail account through Kmail I used to get the
following error (see below the workaround):
"Error while getting folder information.
Could Not Determine Resource Status
An attempt to determine information about the status of the resource Unable to
get information about folder [Gmail]. The server replied: Invalid folder:
[Gmail] (Failure), such as the resource name, type, size, etc., was
unsuccessful.
Technical reason: Could Not Stat Resource
Details of the request:
URL: (unknown)
Date and time: Friday 30 October 2009 08:54 am
Additional information: Unable to get information about folder [Gmail]. The
server replied: Invalid folder: [Gmail] (Failure)
Possible causes:
The specified resource may not have existed or may not be accessible.
A protocol error or incompatibility may have occurred.
Although unlikely, a hardware error may have occurred.
Possible solutions:
Retry the request and ensure your authentication details are entered
correctly.
Contact your appropriate computer support system, whether the system
administrator, or technical support group for further assistance."

And this error: "Error while querying the server status. Unable to open folder
[Gmail]. The server replied: Unknown Mailbox: [Gmail] (now in authenticated
state) (Failure)"

I was authenticated and other folders retrieved mail just fine.

I have found that disabling the settings corresponding to "Act on new/unread
mail in this folder" and "include this folder when checking for new mail" from
the [Gmail] folder properties window prevents Kmail from attempting to read
the folder and prevents the error from bugging me again. I have
attached a screenshot with the settings highlighted.

I was wondering why Kmail didn't see this problem by itself and configure the
folder correctly. Is this a bug in Kmail or in Gmail? Could someone else
verify if this is a bug? I dont remember having this problem with other
email IMAP clients and my Gmail account, so I assumed there is something wrong
in Kmail. I'm hoping this report will be useful for Gmail users trying to use
KMail.

I'm using KMail Version 1.12.2, Using KDE 4.3.2 and Kubuntu Karmic Koala OS
(laptop 2.6.31-14-generic #48-Ubuntu SMP Fri Oct 16 14:05:01 UTC 2009 x86_64
GNU/Linux)

Thanks,
BogdanBiv

Weird. In the context menu for the [Gmail] "folder" Properties is disabled
here.

I have the same setup as you but running Jaunty with these repos enabled.

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main restricted
universe multiverse
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/backports/ubuntu jaunty main
