GNAT socket server

I am new to Ada and GNAT. I have to send data between a Java app and an Ada app. I'm looking for an Ada server that can receive and send a byte stream. I can't find any examples. If someone could point me to one I would appreciated it.

VC++ Pragma Import

I have an GNAT GPL 2008 program that calls a VC++ procedure. I receive a
"undefined reference" link error pointing to the VC++ routine name.

Does anyone know how to pragma import VC++ into GNAT 2008 GPL?

I managed to get a more detaild error :

Gnat distributed

I successfully installed Gnat ver 4.0.1 in Windows Vista, along with base compiler and distributed compiler(gnatdist).
I am trying now to compile a distributed programm: compilation and partition creation is ok but while in linking phase an error occours, the message looks like this: s-finimp is read-only and obsolete try to recompile.
Basically there are some dupplicated libraries used by 'gnatmake' and 'gnatdist' that have different contents (like s-finimp.ali).
I have tried all installation combinations (earlier versions) and it still gives me this error.
Any idea ?

problem with 64 bits binary

Hello,

I have a serious problem with gnat on solaris 9 :

I need to compile my code in 64bits mode.

So, in the gpr file, I added the m64 and RTS=rts-m64 options.

The RTS=rts-m64 don't seem to work, I had to export ADA_INCLUDE_PATH and ADA_OBJECTS_PATH to be able to link my soft.

Now, my code is compiled in 64 bits, and the executable linked. It is seen by the OS as a 64bits sparcv9 binary :

But when I launch the binary, it immediately crashes (core dump).

GDB told me it crashed on b~factory.adb, line 2152 :

I found the problem. I have Data Execution Prevention enabled for all programs and services. Adding gnat to the list of excepted programs solved the problem.

You can reach these settings by opening Control Panel, then select the Advanced tab and under Performance click the Settings button and select the Data Execution Prevention tab.

gnatmake compilation error on Windows XP SP2

I have recently installed GNAT GPL on my Sony Vaio running Windows XP SP2. However when I try to compile a *.adb file I get the following error. Note that I have tried to compile various files from the ADA Wikibook as well as a simple Hello World application from an introductory tutorial. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think you can do that; the only custom options you can add with
autoconf are --enable and --with options.

As Joseph said, upgrading autoconf/automake, while technically perhaps
not a big deal, requires a substantial amount of coordination among lots
of projects. (And see also the debates we had about requiring an
updated version of flex a month ago; I can see the same thing happening
here.) I don't think I could commit the time to try to navigate that
process within the next few months, at least.

And, also, switching to automake 1.10 doesn't actually duplicate as much
of this as one might hope. Of the directories touched by this patch
other than the top level, only nine (out of 25) are actually processed
by automake, and of those only one actually installs any pdf files; the
rest are trivial single-line patches. The remaining non-top-level
changes would need to be made regardless.

Your comment about the --with-pdfdir option is a good point, though:
Would it be more appropriate to name the option just --pdfdir, so that
it is consistent with what the more recent autoconf would produce, and
thus will not need deprecation after the switch? On the other hand,
--with-pdfdir is consistent with the other options that are currently in
configure.

The gcc/ directory doesn't use automake, so all the copied rules would
still be needed; it's only the configure option and dummy rules in
automake directories that could be avoided.

The autoconf/automake upgrade needs coordinating across GCC, GDB,
binutils, newlib and probably other projects in src. This patch doesn't
(though the toplevel parts do need applying to both repositories at the
same time); install-pdf support can be added to GCC and GDB (neither of
which use automake) independently of the other projects.

Bleah. It works fine on my system, but apparently that's just luck -- I
missed including the new gcc-vers.texi dependency in gccinstall.* in the
Makefile, but on my system the "mv -f gcc-vers.texiT gcc-vers.texi" line
happens to get executed first anyway.

The attached patch ought to fix it; I've tested it on i686-pc-linux-gnu
(which unfortunately doesn't prove it fixes anything, because it worked
before, but at least proves it didn't break things), and committed it to
4.2 and trunk as obvious. (svn 122365 and 122366) Let me know if this
doesn't fix things.

Committed to trunk, and to 4.2 after testing on i686-pc-linux-gnu.

In theory -- and I think in practice, even -- if someone wants to alter
the title page layout, the easiest way to do that is now to redefine the
@titlepage commands with some code in gcc-common.texi, rather than
hardwiring it in the individual manuals, and they'll get the same
results everywhere.

(Well, no, in practice they'll forget to test it on Ada and it will
break the one Ada manual that has a two-line title. But the theory is
sound.)

Standardize GCC manual title pages.

As promised in my recent post to gcc-devel, the attached patch
standardizes all of the title pages in the texi documentation under the
gcc/ directory. (Note that this patch only changes the pdf and dvi
versions; it doesn't affect the info or html.)

The new standard is, for simplicity, the standard Texinfo format; I've
also put in a "For GCC version N.N.N" subtitle on each of the manuals.
In development versions of the compiler, it will say "For GCC version
N.N.N (pre-release)", making it easy to distinguish development from
release versions of the manuals.

I also stuck a table of contents into install.texi while I was
standardizing things, since it didn't have one. This, again, is set to
only affect the dvi and pdf output.

Hello All,

I have legacy ADA and C++ code, and I need to export this code into an XML format so I can create a tool to analyze and work with it. I tried various tree-dump-* commands with g++ and didn't find anything that looked to be read-able or anything that was at a high level like my code (GIMPLE was much to low level for me because I want to maintain variable names and such).

Is there a way I can access the parser for either C++ or ADA so that I can access a high level parsed version of my code? If not, can a parser dump command be recommended?

Any help would be appreciated!

I don't know whether the list is still useful. So much depends on how the community here relates to the gcc maintainers. I understand most of their work appears on gcc-help (but I've been wrong once or twice before).

I would propose moving to a "sign-up to post" policy for starters. Spam and Virus filters wouldn't be a bad idea; a spam filter could shunt the questionable posts aside for moderation.

As to that, I would volunteer for some moderation duties. Perhaps we should talk off-list.
