Thanks for your help.

I will add the plugin to the page you mentioned.

The plugin has 3 menu items, Record Macro, Stop Macro & Play Macro.
Record Macro starts recording of all the keys pressed in gedit.
Stop Macro stops the recoding of macro.
Play Macro then sends all the key events recorded in macro to the
gedit window again.

I am currently developing a new plugin for gEdit that records and run
a keyboard macro. I got the idea for this plugin from Notepad++ which
is only available in windows version. So I decided to add the same
feature in gEdit too. I used the source code of Change Case plugin as
reference for this.

Now my question is how should I share this plugin with others?

I am trying to recreate a functionallity from the Eclise IDE. The
functionallity is basically to highlight the file which is being
edited in the file browser pane, while the button is checked.

It is prefered to have the icon (button) on the toolbar like Eclise IDE.
If is not possible to edit the file browser panel menu toolbar I could
try to compile a custom version.

Well, it odd numbers are for development releases so theorically shouldn't be used unless you don't care about unstable issues.

Basicly no, you can't change that toolbar from another plugin like that.
What we could do is expose this similarly to how you can extend the

I'm not sure I fully understand this problem. How exactly can you select
something outside of the view with the mouse?

the problem of this is gtk+ itself, so we can't really get it solved until it is fixed there.

Also say that I think someone made a plugin to fix that. Have a look in the wiki it should be there.

sessionsaver vanished (update from 2.26.2 to 2.28.0)

Dear developers,

yesterday I made a gedit update. Thereafter the sessionsaver (in German:
Sitzungsspeicherung) vanished from File menu. I checked the
/usr/share/gedit-2/plugins folder - there is still the sessionsaver
folder inside. Also /apps/gedit-2/plugins it is still an activated
(gconf-editor).

Maybe it's a bug, I don't know. But I daily use this plugin and could
not find any alternative.

Suggestion For gedit (follow cursor position in text)

Heloo.
When in notepad in M.Win. it automaticly follows the text cursor when moving it with mouse or keys, not the same in GEdit. In GEdit text cursor only follows keyboard movements not the mouse, if u select a location with mouse that is out of the GEdit corrently visible positsion it vont show it, i have to write something or move with the keys to see the location of the text-pointer.

Please can u add it(the support) or make a option for it somewhere.

Please deliver all the fine Python stuff for the windows version. ;-)

Some day when we get a pygtk version working.

There is a more serious issue with printing in the windows version: Only a very
small portion (I think it's one inch squared) of the paper gets printed,
resulting in a lot of almost blank sheets. The preview in contrast looks good.

Maybe this has to do with metric measurements (mm) in the page setup dialog?

About this, no idea really. Patches welcome :)

Since this was mentioned, maybe it's appropriate to say we're also
implementing an IDE for Shoebot (http://tinkerhouse.net/shoebot) via a
Python plug-in for Gedit. The Gedit architecture is so good and flexible
that we're ditching our old PyGTK/GtkSourceView based IDE and using
Gedit for the job.

Gedit is a wonderful piece of software and the Python plug-in
architecture is top stuff!

Please deliver all the fine Python stuff for the windows version. ;-)

There is a more serious issue with printing in the windows version: Only a very
small portion (I think it's one inch squared) of the paper gets printed,
resulting in a lot of almost blank sheets. The preview in contrast looks good.

Maybe this has to do with metric measurements (mm) in the page setup dialog?

gdp-0.3.1 (2.28.0): Markup completion
=====================================

This release adds XML-based markup completion.

* Detection is based on the language/highlighting of the document.
The supported languages are: XML, XSLT, HTML, Mallard, Docbook, and
Zope page templates.
* When opening a tag, the completer suggests other open or empty tags
that are already in the document.
* When closing a tag, the complete suggests the tags that are still open
before the cursor. This is helpful, though not perfect. The root element
for example, will always be listed since it is closed at the end of the
document.
* When the adding an attribute, the completer suggests the attributes that
were used in other tags.
* You still need to know the markup's grammatical rules since elements
and attributes are suggested from context rather than schema.
* The implementation could be extended to suggest elements and attributes
for specific grammars.

Important changes.

* The completion key accelerator has changed from <Control><Shift>Space to
<Control>Slash (Ctrl+/) to avoid conflicts with HTML snippet commands.

Splitting the gedit window horizontally or vertically would
allow to edit (or compare for differences) two documents
side-by-side (possibly showing differences with color

perl regular expressions as tools

I come from Apple's MPW - Macintosh Programmer's Workshop - which runs only on classic Macs and is not supported for OS X. I miss it.

In MPW the text files that you work with usually contain shell commands that are executed by selecting them and poking the ENTER key which is not the same as a RETURN as it is on a Windoze-style keyboard. There were commands for editing what Apple called a "target" window which was just another text file which might not even be opened.

The commands you use stick around and a worksheet soon collects a bunch of things that you do all of the time. So. . . .

Have a look at: <ftp://ftp.macnauchtan.com/Software/gedit/target/installtarget.txt> and, if you like, the other files in that directory.

cd somewhere and then:
curl -O ftp://ftp.macnauchtan.com/Software/gedit/target/installtarget.txt
will do it in a terminal session.

What it all is is a pack of gedit tools that allow you to set up one of the open files in a gedit window as a target. After you do that you can execute perl commands, especially the ones that do substitutions with regular expressions, on the target file.

It's been working for me for a couple of weeks but it's probably a certainty that it will break when other folks try things. If it sounds interesting please give it a try and let me know if you're interested in a more robust implementation with nice error messages.

It needs 2.28.0 or better but it doesn't need the promised fixes to the tools bugs that I have identified before.

And all testing was done with ubuntu 9.10 Linux.

Thank you for your hints.
I've investigated a bit and start building a dummy plugin for managing SVN.
Anyway I haven't found any signal sent from Filebrowser to the bus
when a file or a directory is selected.
Am I correct?

* one has the LaTex plugin enabled and one doesn't or one or
* one autosaves every 5 min. and the other every 20 min. etc?.
