Hello,

It appears that together with any script pattern matching changes done
inbetween the versions, aliases now work the same as trigger patterns.
This is quite unintuitive indeed, and quite hard to use.

So until this is reworked, this is how you can achieve what you want
with the 0.11.2 version:

Use a wildcard at the end of the alias pattern, so that it will actually
look at the remaining part of the alias command line you entered and be
able to do something with it.
So this could be the regex to use:

fireball(.*)

And the action list could be:

cast fireball%1

This will allow to cast fireball on yourself as well, but commands like
"fireball2" will patch it as well, and try to issue a "cast fireball2".

A regex with a space inbetween, such as
fireball (.*)
and an action list of
cast fireball %1
will allow to differentiate those better, but you can not cast on
yourself then anymore, unless you actually enter "fireball " with a
space afterwards.

Hope this helps for now until it is made back better and intuitive.

We really should code it back so, that any excess words after the
pattern match (the unmatched part) would automatically be added to the
end of the command automatically, so that it would work as it likely did
in version 0.10.7.

Best Regards,

> years by now.
> I apologize for my not perfect English and for my lack of a technical
> language, but I am Italian and although I am a mud manageress, I am
> not a programmer.
>
> I am writing here because I have a problem with the setting of aliases
> in the 0.11.2 version, currently running on an Ubuntu 9.04, and that I
> hadn't with the older version 0.10.7 compiled on Gentoo.
> I tried a Google search and I also tried to find something in this
> mailing list archive to solve my problem, but I could not succeed. I
> hope some of you could help me.
>
> When in the older version (0.10.7) I set an alias and a replacement,
> the mud automatically runs the command I put in the replacement and
> allows me to add a further specification for that command during the
> game. I could, for instance, choose to type "fireball" to make a
> character execute the command "cast fireball" and specify the name of
> the victim in game.
> A simple "fireball John" works perfectly (the mud code runs a "cast
> fireball John").
>
> With the new version (0.11.2) the layout has changed. If I put in the
> regex my short name for the spell ("fireball") and in the action list
> the full command ("cast fireball") the character only casts the spell
> on himself and I cannot add the target during the game.
> If I type "fireball John" it results in an unknown command.
>
> I don't know if it's just me that can't make gnome-mud work properly
> or there's something wrong.
> I may add that our mud is based on a Merc2 code and that the new
> triggers features run perfectly and are very useful.
>
>
replacing libglade with GtkBuilder code. We rely on libglade for our
touches quite a few source files and will give you a chance to get
some familiarity with the code base. It shouldn't be very hard to do,
but it's also not going to be the most fun task in the world. :)

But really if you have ideas or want to work on something particular
just stop by irc or email the list and we'll work something out.

Always looking for more help. The best thing to do first is probably
get the code:

git clone git://git.gnome.org/gnome-mud

Any patches you'd like to add should either be sent to this list, or
preferably, attached to a bug
report on our bugzilla page located here:

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/browse.cgi?product=gnome-mud

If there's no bug describing what your patch does (probably the most
likely case :P) just open a new bug.

Those of us interested in gnome-mud tend to hang out in #gnome-mud on
irc.gimp.net but if you prefer the mailing list
by all means use it.

Finally, we have a wiki page with some general (and mostly current)
information about gnome-mud:

gnome-mud 0.11.2

Description
-----------

GNOME-Mud is a Multi-User Dungeon (MUD) client for X. It supports
aliases, triggers, multiple connections, command queuing, IPv6 servers
and implements more advanced MUD protocols like MSP or ZMP. It includes
a plugin interface, which can be used to add your own features (for
example, a graphical health monitor). It uses the GTK+ toolkit, but
can be used in any desktop environment or window manager.

Notes
-----

This release fixes a few important crash bugs that were introduced in
0.11.1, and fixes a long list of memory leaks. It also corrects a few
errors in preferences and profiles, and several outstanding problems with
the charset used to send and print text in the terminal, among other fixes
and additions.

We think this probably makes the best gnome-mud release ever, and the
team will start focusing on new features for 0.12 from now on.

Changes
-------

- Fix several crashers on connect and reconnect to muds [Les]
- Fix other problems when disconnecting and reconnecting [Les]
- The two connect dialogs are now merged into one [Les]
- Removed Python plugins from the distribution [Les]
- Fix character set issues. Convert client messages to the user's
character set before printing them. Avoid crashes if the user inputs
a character that cannot be converted to his character set [Les]
- Fix default color settings for new profiles [Les]
- Disable several options from the UI if no connection is active [Les]
- Fix many memory leaks throughout the codebase [Les]
- Remove several obsolete preference items [Les]
- Optimizations for MCCP code [Les]
- Update credits dialog [Jordi]
- Several other bugfixes

What you are referring to as ansi codes are in my terminology "Standard
ECMA-48 Control Functions for Coded Character Sets" Control Sequences
documented in the freely available ECMA-048.pdf document. The ANSI
standard body maybe had a standard for a very similar thing as well, or
just their own number. Anyway, that's that, the take-away point here is
that there is this extensive document that documents all the things you
might not ever wanted to know about these control sequences :)

In gnome-mud all this is taken care of by the VTE library. Hence it
would be interesting to know how a _raw_ log of your MUD session with
that <esc>2K in it would behave if 'cat raw.log' is done in a VTE based
terminal client, such as gnome-terminal, XFCE's Terminal or evilvte.
And how it behaves in a telnet session that is running inside such a
terminal.
Also, can you find in the ECMA-048 document what command is that 'K' and
what it is documented to do? Cursor position reset or not, etc.

> If someone could help me by submitting a quick patch to illustrate how
> I can make this change, I do like the client!

Any change here would actually affect all VTE based things - and if the
standard says it is doing it wrong currently, then it's perhaps a bug
worth fixing, unless real world convention is otherwise for some reason
or some such reasoning that VTE developers can comment on once we get
more details about this.

I hope this helps a bit, and doesn't scare you away with it being in the
VTE library. Might be fun to do some digging in the standards document,
no VTE knowledge needed or anything for starters.

The standards PDF document is available from
http://www.ecma-international.org/publications/standards/Ecma-048.htm

Please let us know of your findings,

Obama -- The Judas Goat
1/25/2009
By David Duke

Judas Goat\ A goat that leads other goats or sheep to slaughter. Also, one who entices into danger and betrays others. The name is an allusion to Judas Iscariot, who betrayed Jesus for 30 pieces of slaughter. (From Merriam Webster’s Dictionary)

Barack Hussein Obama is a Judas Goat.

Extremist Jews guided Barack Hussein Obama’s career from day one, even all the way back to Harvard Law School. Radical Zionist hitman, David Axelrod previously orchestrated the Jewish-financed and organized defeat of perceived anti-Zionist Sen. Charles Percy. He is the man who ran Obama’s campaign for President and who is his chief handler. Obama’s campaign was overwhelmingly financed by the most powerful Zionist bankers in the world. His campaign’s largest contribution source was the Zionist international banking firm of Goldman Sachs. (FEC campaign records). In both Obama’s Senate and Presidential campaign he prostrated himself before AIPAC (American Israel Public Affairs Committee) promising even more money and blood for Israel’s terrorism than even the supine John McCain, and even more money and blood than the previous Shabbez Goy in the White House, George Bush. Before the Israeli terrorism and mass murder in Gaza, he went to Israel and said that he supported Israel’s p
lanned murderous terrorism against the men, women and children of Gaza.

His first act as President-elect was to appoint a rabid Zionist, Israeli dual citizen who served in the Israeli Army as his Chief of Staff, Rahm Emmanuel. As thousands of women and children in Gaza were killed or maimed, Obama remained silent. Within a few days as President Obama supported indiscriminate American missile strikes in villages of our ally Pakistan, a clear continuation of Bush’s policies. He completely supports the theft of trillions of American taxpayer dollars to the Zionist international bankers. Eighty percent of American Jews voted for Obama, and all the main leaders of the Jewish Supremacist state of Israel have proclaimed Obama as the perfect man for U.S. President.

What better for the Zionists to have their own servant perceived as a clean break from the Jewish extremist-controlled Bush administration? What better than for the Zionists than to have their Shabbez Goy be treated by the world’s press and even by much of the anti-Zionist community as a man of “real change?” What better for the Zionists than for the world to think that Obama will be a change from the Zionist-controlled policies when he willing to do anything that Israel demands? What better for the Zionist murderers to have their craven puppet be looked at by the whole world as a man of honor and integrity and fairness.

In the slaughterhouse, the Judas Goat is often painted with bright colors, adorned with strong, sweet scents to lure the sheep to their pens and to their death. Obama, the Judas Goat of our time, is looked upon by millions of Zionist-propagandized sheep as the man who will lead them to salvation.

Instead, he leads America, Palestine and the world to the bloody altar of Jewish Supremacism.

Any supposed anti-Zionist who praises Barack Obama is actually aiding this Judas Goat to lead us all to slaughter. Every person who truly opposes Jewish extremism must speak out and expose the Judas Goat named Barack Obama!

– Dr. David Duke

Former Member of the House of Representatives

State of Louisiana

United States of America

It is up to you the people of the United States who can still think freely, and up to all of the people of the world who are able to see through the deceptions of the Zionist-influenced Global media -- to get this simple, powerful message to everyone on earth. Let the world know the truth. Person by person, in the USA, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Italy, japan, Russia, China, Africa, Palestine, South America and across the whole world this Judas Goat must be exposed for what he is, so that when begin
s to do his evil for Israel, the whole world will know exactly what is going on and resist!

Why is the President of Israel, the terrorist who just oversaw the Zionist mass murder and maiming of thousands of Palestinians so happy
that Obama is President of the USA?
by David Duke

Read the excerpt from the Israeli News about how President Perez and Israel think that Obama’s becoming U.S. President is great day
for Israel.

"Israel’s President Shimon Peres ecstatic over the election of Obama"
Ronen Medzini Israel News Jan. 21

“Today is a great day not only for the United States of America, but for the entire world,” President Shimon Peres wrote in a letter
addressed to Barack Obama on the day of his inauguration as president of the United States.

“Obama was elected by the United States, but as a matter of fact, he was chosen by the whole of humankind,”

Why is Peres so ecstatic?

Why shouldn’t he be, he knows that Obama is completely in the grip of the extremist Jewish Zionists in America, and he knows that the
greater Obama’s popularity and idol worship, the more Obama can do for the International Zionist Cause.

Any thinking and caring human being who realizes that the Zionist-controlled American foreign policy has been a disaster for the robbed
and murdered people of Palestine, Lebanon, Iraq and a catastrophe for the 50,000 American wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well
as an economic catastrophe for the hardworking Americans who pay trillions to finance these wars for Israel -- must wake up the fact that
supporting Obama and increasing his popularity will only aid Zionist terrorism, war, and their murder and oppression of the Palestinians. It
will also hasten the economic suffering of billions of people around the world as his popularity enables him to more easily aid the Zionist
International Bankers steal the wealth of the United States, Europe and the world. Obama is totally in the bloodstained and green ink-
stained hands of the Zionists. The hard truth is that the more good will and support Obama has also gives more power to support the
Zionist agenda!

Mark my words. The Obama Presidency will be disaster for America and for the world.

Obama was put into office by the Zionists. His top two cohorts for years have been the radical Jews David Axelrod and Rahm
Emmanuel. Both have long records of radical Zionism and have been attack dogs against anyone perceived as having the slightest
opposition to Israel. One such victim was Sen. Charles Percy, who both men worked to defeat and destroy because he dared to only be
99 percent rather than 100 percent pro-Israel. Rahm Emmanuel, a dual citizen of Israel who went to fight for Israel, he has a long
pedigree of Jewish extremism. His father served in the Irgun Terrorist Gang and he himself is named after an Irgun terrorist.

Zionist leaders in Chicago actually call Obama “the first Jewish President” and boast that Jews were key players in Obama’s every step
up the ladder to President.

from the very earliest days, extremist Jews were the largest contributors to his campaign. In the beginning of his Presidential bid, three
Hollywood Jews that constantly make movies about Jewish suffering, but never about the Zionist terrorism and theft against the
Palestinian people, Steven Spielberg, David Geffen, and Jeffrey Katzenberg raised 1.2 million for Obama in a single Hollywood party.

By the time Obama’s campaign was in full swing, he had huge support from the criminal Zionist International Banking firms such as
Goldman Sachs and Lehman brothers. Goldman Sachs was Obama’s biggest single contributor, and his vast war chest came not from
American manufacturing firms like GM or even American oil companies, (not one was in his top twenty) it was overwhelmingly dominated
by Zionist international bankers, the same ones whose thievery and fraud are giving the world this economic depression.

For those looking for meaningful social and political change, do you really think it will come from this man who has already been bought
heart, head and soul by the most powerful czars of the international financial establishment and the biggest globalists in the world?

I know that many are desperate for change, so desperate that you want to believe anything. But in the face of these facts can’t you see
that Obama will be even more dangerous to freedom and justice than even George Bush and his band of Neocons were. What better
way to wipe out George Bush’s hated legacy and make the world believe that America has really changed than with the election of
Obama. But, all the real Zionist power, Zionist media power, and Zionist financial power in America is still in place, even stronger than
ever.

Many Americans and others around the world who want to do good are now telling us how wonderful Obama will be as president. What
a great change it will be from the old policies. This is because of the Zionist-Controlled media hype, promoting Obama. The fact is that
these poor sods are ignorantly helping the radical Zionist agenda in Israel and around the world.

Every day that you don’t help expose Obama for the Zionist servant that he actually is, his popularity will be a greater danger to peace
and freedom.

If the Zionist terrorist Shimon Perez is happy about the coronation of Obama, then why in the hell should you be?

If you want to know who the real establishment is in America and around the world, the real power behind the so-called ''military-industrial complex'', the real maleficent power that has led this world to inexorable conflict, war, hatreds, destruction of real human values, morality, conscience — it is the global media establishment.

This same media witnessed the Zionist slaughter of 1,300 people in Gaza, and the maiming of 6,000 more, half of them women and children. More than 20,000 homes and buildings were destroyed or damaged and thousands became homeless. This horrendous mass slaughter of Palestinians is compared to the loss of 3 Israeli civilians. Yet, the media never dare to call this slaughter exactly what it is: terrorism on a horrendous scale! This same American and global media has not informed the American people or the people of the world of the damning truth about Barack Obama.

In truth, Obama is a complete creation of extremist Jewish Zionists and he has already begun to serve Israel by his top appointments.

The Jewish-dominated media in America is promoting the Obama inauguration as akin to the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. (If you question Jewish control of the media read Who Runs the Media? and you will find documentation proving the Jewish control being far greater than you might suspect) The rest of the world’s powerful media (Which also has a powerful Jewish presence in the UK, France, Spain, Sweden, Russia, and the rest of Europe) takes its cues from the NY/Hollywood media axis, and presents Obama as kind of a superhuman agent of real change.

In fact, it is a Huge Lie!

Obama is completely controlled by the same forces that have controlled George Bush, so much so that The Chicago Tribune quotes leading Jews bragging that Obama is so in the hands of the Zionists that he is ''the first Jewish President.'' Obama received about 80 percent of the Jewish vote in the United States!

The Three critical things that made Obama President:

1)Jewish political influence

Obama’s chief handler is David Axelrod, a radical Jewish Zionist whose previous claim to fame was the fact that he was the Zionist political hit man against Illinois Senator Charles Percy, who was not deemed to be pro-Israel enough. (He was only 99.9 percent Israel’s lackey, not the required 100 percent) Obama went to Israel and made sure he pronounced himself even more radically pro-Zionist than Bush or McCain.

2) Massive amounts of Jewish money

Obama’s campaign was kicked in high gear by Jewish Hollywood and financial moguls. In just one of the early fundraising parties in Hollywood by Spielberg, Geffen and Katzenburg it raised over a million dollars for Obama. Obama raised more money than any political candidate in American history and his biggest contributors were overwhelmingly Jewish activists, Jewish international finance and banking firms and Jewish globalists. His largest single contributor was the international Jewish Banking firm of Goldman Sachs. He received more money from the same international bankers that ripped off trillions of dollars in the recent economic scandals than even John McCain. Is a man totally under the power of the most powerful financial organizations in the entire world, really an agent of ''change?''

3) Overwhelming positive support in the Jewish-dominated media

By a large margin, Jewish-owned media officially endorsed Obama, and that is not counting tens of thousands of positive articles by Jewish; owned publications and pundits.

Obama’s first act as President-elect was to appoint a Jewish extremist, dual citizen, Rahm Emmanuel, as his chief of staff. As the people of Gaza were slaughtered, Obama would not make a single statement to stop this murder and maiming of thousands of innocents!

Israel, very carefully timed its terrorist attack on Gaza to be in the remaining days of the Bush Administration. The day before Obama’s inauguration Israel announced that it would be completely out of Gaza by the time Obama took his oath of office.

Why?

Before Obama took office, Israel could make this terrorist slaughter against Palestinians and Obama would still be perceived as having clean hands. Because Obama is completely under their control, they want him to have an image of fairness, honor and peacefulness, and as representing a new direction of American policy, as he begins to deal with the Mideast turmoil.

Since he is Israel’s boy in the White House, what better scenario could they have than a President perceived as practically the Second Coming, of high moral conviction, and dedicated to fairness, but who is actually bound hand-and-foot to the Zionist agenda, just as the last president’s have been. Talk about a perfect shill. And the game is working, for even many Palestinians are filled with hope that the new President will work to end their long suffering.

With an almost godlike positive image around the world, a Barack Obama who is in reality controlled by Israel, is a much bigger danger than was even George Bush. We know what Bush is, but too many Americans and other peoples around the world are falling for the lies about the new ''savior'' of the world: Barack Obama. He already says we are to put thousands of new troops in Afghanistan and has rattled the sabers against Iran. Obama with highest positive image (created by media) in the world is in a more dangerous position to lead us into catastrophic wars than George Bush ever was.

Jewish screenwriters in Hollywood couldn’t have written a better script for the Zionist agenda than what is being played out on inauguration day, USA.

Of course, why should they write it, they did it.

God save America, God save the Palestinians, God save peace and justice in the world!

ANNOUNCE: gnome-mud 0.11
Application
===========

gnome-mud 0.11

Description
===========

It uses the GTK+ toolkit, but it
can be used with any window manager.

Notes
=====

This is the first release of GNOME-Mud in over /3 years/. While things
have been glacially slow on the development front for some time, this
release is a major milestone as it provides a good basement for new
features and improvements to be done in the future, so hopefully
releases will be out a lot more often from now on.

Developers are wanted, please join gnome-mud-list@... if you want
to help out or test.

Changes
=======

GNOME-Mud has gone under a substantial rewrite. Improvements include:
- Proper telnet support including telnet options: TTYPE, NAWS, ECHO, CHARSET
 and EOR [Les, Mart Raudsepp]
- Full MSP support (Mud Sound Protocol) [Les]
- ZMP support (core package only at the moment) [Les]
- Separate input history for all connections [Les]
- New input widget that dynamically resizes based on amount of text
 entered [Mart Raudsepp]
- SOCKS proxy support (version 4 and 5) [Les]
- Full encoding support including the ability to negotiate text encoding
(if the server supports the CHARSET telnet option) [Les]
- Triggers and aliases with perl compatible regular expression matching [Les]
- Support for profiles [Les]
- No dependencies on deprecated libraries [Les, Mart Raudsepp]
- Nice new Tango icon [Andreas Nilsson]
- Added translations:
 + Ukrainian [Maxim Dziumanenko]
 + Nepali [Pawan Chitrakar]
 + Vietnamese [Clytie Siddall]
 + Arabic [Djihed Afifi]
 + Dzongkha [Pema Geyleg]
- Updated translations:
+ German [Jens Seidel, Hendrik Richter]
 + Dutch [Tino Meinen]
 + Canadian English [Adam Weinberger]
+ Spanish [Francisco Javier F. Serrador]
 + Catalan [Jordi Mallach]
 + Swedish [Daniel Nylander]
 + British English [David Lodge]
+ French [Bruno Brouard, Stéphane Raimbault]
 + Occitan [Yannig Marchegay]
 + Greek [Nikos Charonitakis]

There are a few regressions in this release:
- The python plugin API is not available. It will come back with the upcoming
 Plugin API rewrite.
- Support for variables, MCCP and key bindings are temporarily missing and
will probably be back on our next major release.

Yes, the wiki feature list is impressive, and I love the 256 color

The new codebase using gobjects instead of the old hack will hopefully
ease development even further.

Maybe I'll take a stab of doing a windows binary installment, do you

The regressions from 10.7 are: Python support, Key Bindings, Variables, MCCP

Python support will come back in 0.12 with the plugin api rewrite.
Variables will return sooner than that in a 0.11 point release, I'll
add them in when I rework the ui for the trigger/aliases.
MCCP should also be in a 0.11 release. In my local tree it's in a
"mostly working" state but currently telnet subnegotiation is fubared
with MCCP enabled so that needs to be fixed first.
Key Bindings, also most likely a point release feature.

Thanks for the info. The version of GNOME Mud in unstable is quite
unmaintained. We have been working on a new version which would
hopefully solve the problems with the current automapper by rewriting it
from scratch.

Unfortunately, our main developer has been a bit inactive lately, so I

Dear Gnome-mud users,

I have noticed that the automapper makes gnome-mud crash quite often.
Usually, I create a map of a certain region and safe quite often in
different files. Since I don't know the cause of the crashes, I reload
the saved file directly after saving to see if the map can be loaded of
if I have to repaint it. Then I continue.

Now, when I try to extend the map in another region (I try to use a
single map for the whole world) it all works well until the first time I
try to save that includes the extended region. Gnome-mud crashes and the
produced file is significantly smaller in size.

Any suggestions? I have several files in case you want to reproduce the
crashes. I'm using version 0.10.7, installed from Debian/GNU Linux,
package version 0.10.7-1+b2.

By the way: it would be really great if:
- I could add colours to a region to express e.g. it's a forest, meadow,
desert etc,
- I could other visible attributes to a room to show it's e.g. a shop,
pub, etc.
- define multiple connections from one level to another level, because
sometimes, a house has two or more stairs.

Yours,
Avery

Dear brave GNOME Mud developers.
I just did a new GNOME Mud icon, as someone pointed out that the old one
didn't come in all sizes and therefore looked blurry in the
You can find it here: http://ramnet.se/~nisse/diverse/temp/gnome-mud.tar.gz
It should preferably be placed in $PREFIX/share/icons/hicolor/$SIZE/apps/.

Good news!

Quim definitely had a good idea going there. Apparently gtk.timeout_add
is deprecated in favour of gobject.timeout_add, so I'm using the gobject
version.

But it does seem to work.

Here's the simplest plugin possible that accomplishes the desired task.

Cheers,
Mike

> Btw, shouldn't you be trying to set a GTK trigger event instead? Sound
> much more easy, and as far as i know, there's good support for gtk in
> python :)
>
> Anyway, i would encourage trying anything but threads, as that's
> always a bugnest.. I would try to create the plugin myself, but sadly,
> i'm quite away of my linux box.. hope the idea works!
>> using a sleep function would not allow the initialization of the python
>>
>> So instead I tried using threading.Timer, but the timer is never able to
>> elapse. Probably this has to do with the interaction of the python
>> interpreter and the C gnome-mud code.
>>
>> The end result is that I cannot think of a way to get your simple plugin

The gnome-mud api is..... a joke at the moment. In 10.7 the plugin api is
in a weird state where more stuff is exposed to python rather than the C api
