Hi all,

Thanks for Alexandro and Carsten, we now have an instance of the new
website ready to be used by content editors. It's available here:

http://website-editors.gnome.org/

Carsten and CMS team, could you please give basic instructions on how
people can create accounts and start editing content?

Design team, please, have a look at the website and start suggesting
fixes, etc. It would be nice if you work very closely to the Content
team.

We're very close to finish an initial version of the website.

Cheers!

> on GNOME i18n project.
>
> I took a look at Pootle and it could be an interesting thing (I didn't
> knew it before, thanks!).
> Last time I took a look I realized that easier participation
> can also easily mean lower quality.
> No idea if there are nowadays review tools on Launchpad
> though.
>
> I uses GNOME in esperanto. I don't know sincerely how many people are
> translating it but I think that an easier participation and an easier
> way to talk about translation models means a quick translation of all
> applications. GNOME in esperanto (but not only) is much less
> translated than softwares in Launchpad. So I think that it could be
> more efficient a translation with server-side software like Launchpad,
> Pootle or other

At first, find other participants. Then, more translations is not really
what you may want. You need quality translations, don't you? We in
Belarusian team has problems exporting Launchpad contributions to GNOME
because of their low quality.

>

No idea if there are nowadays review tools on Launchpad though.

I uses GNOME in esperanto. I don't know sincerely how many people are translating it but I think that an easier participation and an easier way to talk about translation models means a quick translation of all applications. GNOME in esperanto (but not only) is much less translated than softwares in Launchpad. So I think that it could be more efficient a translation with server-side software like Launchpad, Pootle or other

> You shouldn't edit PO files using a plain text editors, there are plenty
> Virtaal myself.
> Hi All,

Hello Mark

> I was unable to find a place where Gnome users can post suggested
> improvements to the Gnome desktop environment and Gnome applications. What
> do you guys think of having a Brainstorm site for Gnome kinda like the one
> that Ubuntu is using? I think it would be a better place to store and track
> opportunities for improvement when compared to discussion boards.

Yeah, I think is a good idea. I think Ubuntu brainstorm page [1] uses
IdeaTorrent [2] GPL software, so an instance can be installed in gnome
servers if the web team accept your request ;)

> A published Roadmap would also be useful as it would tell the user community
> what they can expect in future releases and provide an account of what
> features were implemented and when. It would also show Gnome users when
> their ideas are expected to be implemented helping to promote contributions
> from the community. Songbird has implemented a pretty nice roadmap available
> to the public.

There is already a Roadmap page here [3], but I think is a bit updated.
Then, some project has its own roadmap page, for example the see the
GTK+ roadmap page [4]

Hi All,

With some Gnome apps I have noticed that some bugs have been in existence for years and not yet corrected. I have found these listed on discussion boards.

I was unable to find a place where Gnome users can post suggested improvements to the Gnome desktop environment and Gnome applications. What do you guys think of having a Brainstorm site for Gnome kinda like the one that Ubuntu is using? I think it would be a better place to store and track opportunities for improvement when compared to discussion boards.

A published Roadmap would also be useful as it would tell the user community what they can expect in future releases and provide an account of what features were implemented and when. It would also show Gnome users when their ideas are expected to be implemented helping to promote contributions from the community. Songbird has implemented a pretty nice roadmap available to the public.

The git projects is probably the best source for all official gnome
stuff. I don't think all projects should be directly displayed
however. We should pick out the best parts, and maybe have a
development libraries section and an extras section that can point to
things we don't want up front. As this is on the main page, a
sources can be found on git.gnome.org. All content on this site is obsolete.

-- Should it really say "All content on this site is obsolete"? SVN is
obsolete but that page is not!

2.
NOTE: If you have an existing CVS account, it will work with the
Subversion service.

-- It should say SVN instead of CVS and Git instead of Subversion,
doesn't it?

3.
If you need a Subversion development account, please see the new
accounts information page. For Frequently Asked Questions, please look
at Subversion FAQ on the GNOME Wiki.

-- Should say "If you need a Git development account"...
-- Also, "Subversion FAQ" should be "Git FAQ" and link to the correct
place in the wiki, which is http://live.gnome.org/Git/FAQ

4.
Ununsed SVN repositories may be moved to the SVN archive. These archived
SVN repositories are available via: http://svn-archive.gnome.org/.

-- http://svn-archive.gnome.org/ redirects to http://svn.gnome.org/,
which is useless because you are already in that webpage.

That's all at the moment. So if anyone think I'm right and could change
it, the world would become better :)

Regards, Pablo.

Hi!

I visited http://projects.gnome.org/ for the first time yesterday and
found several great programs that I didn't know existed.
However, several projects in the list are outdated (galeon,
WVware...), deprecated (GB), replaced (gossip?). Other don't exist
(pdfmod, rygel)

I think it is a great resource for showcasing gnome stuff that is more
closely coupled with gnome than gnomefiles, but the page need to be
updated.
If there is an interest, but lack of manpower I don't mind doing it,
as long as I can get some mentoring.
Is this at all the right list to ask for these kinds of
wishlist/question/bug/improvement things?

//Olof

Lucas,

For the content team, we would like to review the content in the editor's instance of Plone. We have a lot of content done, but need to review it and tighten it up.

Talking about it briefly at the Marketing hackfest this week, team members agreed it would be easier to review it in the editor's instance rather than the wiki, which will help in reviewing the page flow as well.
Hi all,

So, I basically got sidetracked with work and other stuff and,
unfortunately, things got a bit out of track on the development of our
new website. I can get back to work on the website again! So, first
thing I want to do is to get a general status update from all teams:
Design, CMS and Content.

Questions to all teams:
- What's still missing to get a functional website on your area?
- What's blocking you from doing your work?

I sort of know what will be the answers but I want to make sure I'm
not missing anything. AFAIK, the main blocker right now is getting the
editor's Plone instance running on GNOME servers. Alexandro, I guess
you'll be working on this next weekend?

Carsten & co, can you list all outstanding tasks on the CMS side so
that new volunteers can jump in?

We're very close to get the first version of the website done. Let's just do it!

Cheers!
