Should really all of those be offered via completion? While I don't
write documents in Plain TeX myself I could imagine that only some of
them are useful when writing documents (in contrast to writing macro
packages.)

The same is probably true for the commands defined in plain.tex. I've
attached the output of `TeX-auto-generate' for this file.

Is somebody able to make a sensible selection of the commands from the
lists of primitives and Plain TeX macros which should be offered via
completion?

TeXLive 2009 and AucTeX

Hello,

I am just joining the mailing list for AucTeX.
I am not sure if this is a question for AucTeX or for Emacs.
I am using Aquamacs Emacs, under Mac OSX, and I recently upgraded
TeXLive from 2008 to 2009.
I modified the PATH, in my tcsh_conf environment, so that in a
Terminal Window,
echo $PATH returns:

/usr/local/texlive/2009/bin/universal-darwin:

the commands latex or pdflatex launch /usr/local/texlive/2009, from a
Terminal window,

but from Aquamacs Emacs, the commands still launch /usr/local/texlive/
2008.

How can I customize Aquamacs (or AucTeX) so that it uses the 2009
version ?

... on the other hand... if instead of a 1x1 gif you use a 1x1
transparent png, it works like a charm.

I did. It is less distracting but not completely good: the 1x1 image
has a black border so instead of a (white) pixel I see a small black
box, remarkably similar to the points that I use at the end of each
sentence :) Well, close enough.

Preview environments?

Hi,

I would like to know if there is a way to preview some theorem-like
environments. The relevant parts of my preamble are:

\documentclass{article}

\usepackage{amssymb, amsthm, amsmath}

\theoremstyle{definition}
\newtheorem{theorem}{Theorem}[section]
\newtheorem{example}[theorem]{Example}

And of course I have some \begin{theorem} ... \end{theorem} and
\begin{example} ... \end{example} in the document, which are never
previewed. Any suggestions?

The "x" is hardcoded in `preview-make-clickable'.

I haven't tried this, but perhaps you could use a 1x1 pixels image
instead of the default icon?

additional comment-face-font

Hello

I would like to have a part from the "traditional" comments and their
faces an additional one.

For example in latex mode

%% this is a normal comment, highlighted in red.

%%%% this is a SUPERcomment, highlighted in yellow.

So both are comments just distinguished by the amount of ;.
(May be it would be better to have a string like %%%%SC: at the beginning
of each line)

In any case, how can generate such new face?

I looked in font-latex in order to get some ideas but of course this is
not the place where Font Lock Comment Face is defined, that should be in
font-lock.el, anyhow.

Invoking dvips with psfrag loaded

Hi,

I'm new to Auctex/Emacs and I'm trying to invoke dvips/gv when using the psfrag package. I observed a behaviour of Auctex which seems odd to me:

The dvips/gv commands are executed only when I typed "\usepackage{psfrag}" during the present session but not when I load an existing latex file with "\usepackage{psfrag}" already in the preamble. In this case, xdvi is started. In other words, I always have to retype this line in order to start dvips/gv. I don't think that this behaviour is intended...

This happens even when I use the default .emacs file and an almost plain latex-file, e.g.:

\documentclass[a4paper]{scrartcl}
\usepackage{psfrag}

\begin{document}
test
\end{document}

The same with pstricks.

I'm using Auctex 11.84 with Gnu Emacs 22.2.1 under Ubuntu 9.04.

Okay, thanks for testing. The code now uses [^\"]*?. Also, newlines
are removed from the matched strings.

latex include problem with shell-command.

I tried to implement the feature I mentioned yesterday would be easy,
well I have a problem with the symbol ':

On the command line the command in question, which works, is

In my experimental package (using us-ascii encoding)

main file, include, dvi gets name of include file not main

Please consider the following minimal example, called haupt.tex

\documentclass{article}

%\includeonly{teil1}
\begin{document}
\include{teil1}
\include{teil2}
\end{document}

Running latex on that file results in a dvi called haupt.dvi.

However I would like to have the name either teil1.dvi or teil2.dvi (of
course I can later rename the file but I wanted to do it directly).

Following an advice from the german tex group the following works from
the command line:
latex -jobname=teil1 '\includeonly{teil1}\edef\jobname{\detokenize{haupt}}\input{haupt}'

However, I don't see an easy way to have that functionality
included by modifying the TeX-run-command list.

I can write a function LaTeX-run-main-different-name but it is ugly
contains too many read-string etc.
Somebody has an idea.

Okay, I've checked in a patch that is similar to yours. .*? is used
instead of [^\"]* in the assumption that the file names are not broken
across newlines and that the former is a bit better performance-wise.
The quotation marks are stripped with `substring' which does not require
a new buffer to be created.

If possible please give it a try.

The preview package should work with Xe(La)TeX

Dear Mr. Kastrup,

i have an issue with your very usefull “preview” latex package: It works
perfect with pdflatex as TeX-engine, but if one uses xelatex
(XeTeX-Engine) instead, the borders of the preview environment aren’t
correctly determined: Instead, the full paper size is used and the
content is displaced; parts are even above the upper margin.

I tried to create a minimal example for this Problem; you can find it in
the compressed appendix of this email.

It uses also the TikZ-Package since i originally tried to produce a
XeTeX-Example for the TikZ-example-gallery⁰ (where your preview package
is extensively used).

After searching in the bug-auctex-mailinglist, i found out that Ralf
Angeli already worked on a patch for this problem in July¹. Is there any
hope that this will find it’s way into the repository soon? And does it
works with TikZ?

At least, it would be great if you would consider to update the (then
hopefully XeTeX-capable) version at CTAN; the SVN-Log of preview.dtx²
says that you immigrated the licence from GPL 2 to GPL 3—i think that
this change alone would deserve a new realease.

Finally, i want to thank you very much for your previous work on this
very usefull LaTeX package—and i hope that this email doesn’t bothered
you too much.

TeX-fold-prefix

I suppose this is a feature request.

For years now I have had

(setq outline-minor-mode-prefix "\C-c\C-o")

in my .emacs. Of course this overrides the default C-c@ and conflicts
with the use of C-cC-o as a sort of default prefix for TeX-fold-mode.

Looking at tex-fold.el, I see that the various key maps for
TeX-fold-mode are defined individually, so if I perversely wanted to
change them to C-c@C-o, etc, I would have to change all 11 individually.

Would it be possible and reasonable for auctex to define a
TeX-fold-mode-prefix variable with default value of C-cC-o?

I'm suggesting this in spite of the fact that I've decided to revert to
the defaults for a while to see if I can live with C-c@ as my
outline-minor-mode-prefix --- although I find C-c@ awkward, I generally
prefer to accomodate myself to emacs defaults when I can.

If you can provide the contents of an output buffer after a LaTeX run,
so that I can reproduce the problem, I might have a look at it over the

The bug is also present in the current CVS version and the patch is for
the current CVS as 11.85 also has problems with spaces in filenames
that was fixed in the meantime. I only changed tex-buf.el for my
local installation thus the confusion.

The patch should fix problems on Windows platform, but I'm not sure whether
it
can introduce problems on other platforms. The code to remove quotation
marks from found tokens is probably not entirely correct as it will remove
all quotation marks, and not only ones delimiting found token.

Scroll down to "preview your favorite LaTeX constructs". Also check out

(info "(preview-latex) Provided commands")

I think you will need PreviewEnvironment* on the comment environment.

You can't expect a comment environment inside of a math equation to
work, however. That would be nested previews. Not supported currently.

what in fact did happen.

Be sure to consult the FAQ section in the manual before submitting
a bug report. In addition check if the bug is reproducable with an
up-to-date version of AUCTeX. So please upgrade to the version
available from http://www.gnu.org/software/auctex/ if your
installation is older than the one available from the web site.

If the bug is triggered by a specific (La)TeX file, you should try
to produce a minimal sample file showing the problem and include it
in your report.

Your bug report will be posted to the AUCTeX bug reporting list.

Default installation directory for all 32 bit programs on
Windows 7 is C:\Program Files (x86) while 64 bit programs
are installed in C:\Program Files. MiKTeX installation
will be by default placed in C:\Program Files (x86)\MiKTeX 2.8.
Token (x86) in default path breaks TeX-parse-error.

One possible resolution would be to reinstall MiKTeX to directory
without (x86).

Another possible resolution would be to change TeX-parse-error
by using quotation marks that enclose the file name. When
left parenthesis followed by quotation mark is found everything
up to the closing quotation mark should be pushed on stack.
Quotation marks must then be removed either before pushing the
filename on stack or after popping it. This will solve the problem
for default installation of MiKTeX on Windows but I'm not sure
whether it would break error parsing for other operating systems.

I reinstalled MiKTeX in c:\programs instead of "c:\Program Files
(x86)" and that solved the problem.

Well, at one point in time we actually provided an Emacs with PNG
support and AUCTeX pre-installed.

The problem might be that we played too much with CVS logs in check-in
comments. But I'm not certain about that.

agreement for AUCTeX on file at the FSF, so I checked in a paraphrased

Font colour for eqnarray in preview-latex

Normally preview-latex seems to print equations in the colour set in
preview-appearance: preview reference face: foreground. (Henceforth known as the proper colour)

However when using the eqnarray mode only the first equation appears in this colour, its equation number appears in black and all subsequent equations and equation numbers appear in black.

Using eqnarray* gives all of the equations in the proper colour, as does using an array or matrix in equation mode. The equation number in the equation mode is in the proper colour as well.

So something funny seems to be happening with the way equation numbers are handled for multiline equations that always leads to them being printed to the screen in black. Do you have any idea why this happens and how I can fix it?
