Hi Markus,

> But how could I use every user's own Email Address?

You can do it using a single conditional statement in your main
/etc/anubisrc, like that:

gpg-passphrase "password"
if command["mail from:] = "(.*)"
  gpg-sign-encrypt \1
fi

This will use the value of the SMTP `MAIL' command as the user ID.
You may also configure it to use the value of the `From' (or any
other) header, e.g.:

if header["From"] = ".*<(.*)>"
  gpg-sign-encrypt \1
fi

Regards,
Sergey
Hi Sergey,

You got it right. Is there any other way than doing this in the ~/.anubisrc? I thought, I would at least have to use this definitions:

gpg-passphrase "password"
gpg-sign-encrypt test@...
gpg-sign YES

But how could I use every user's own Email Address? Of course I could do a conditional statement for every user. But I thought it would be easier to
have just these three lines in the ~/.anubisrc of each user. Is this impossible? Or did I get something really wrong?

ok, I guess I got it now to sign the Emails.

I think it was much more a problem of using pgp than from Anubis..

But now I've got another problem.

I want to the Emails to be PGP signed by the PGP Certificate of every User himself.

I think it works because, when I use the option: rule-prority user it works! But
then it stops using my /etc/anubisrc. But I want both to be readed and used! Even if I use
rule-priority system
it still doesn't use my /home/user/.anubisrc file. I can see in the Logfiles, that it will be read

Oct 14 17:21:20 test-desktop anubis[18001]: Reading user configuration file /home/heinz/.anubisrc...

But it totally ignores it...

Any Suggestion what I should do?

In the meantime I upgraded my Anubis Installation to 4.1. The rest is still the same...

Hope anybody can Help me :-)

best Regards,

Hello Anubis Team,

I am trying to set up Anubis on my machine to sign my Emails before
sending them. But I just don't get it how to set it up with pgp Keys.

I am using Anubis v4.0 from the Ubuntu Repositories with gnupgp 1.4.6
(also from the Ubuntu Repositories).

My anubisrc looks like this:

gpg-passphrase 12345
gpg-sign YES
gpg-sign-encrypt anubistester

I also tried these:

gpg-passphrase 12345
gpg-sign YES
gpg-sign-encrypt test@...

gpg-passphrase 12345
gpg-sign YES
gpg-sign-encrypt 1024D/299C4BED (my public key)

But nothing works... I always get this:

Oct 12 09:11:13 test-desktop anubis[7483]: GPGME: Unerwartete Anzahl von
Signaturen erzeugt

(What means: GPGME: Unexpected Number of Signatures created)

I hope someone is able to tell me how this works... I've been working on
this for a while now...

Best Regards,
>
> anubis 4.0+dfsg1-1 from the Ubuntu Hardy repository. The only thing I
> can find in the logs is:
>
> Jul 17 09:27:32 localhost anubis[5420]: GNU Anubis v4.0 daemon startup
> succeeded.

With a normal output level, you should see at least the following
messages somewhere in the log: "Connection from HOST:PORT",
"Connection closed successfully.", etc. It looks like your MUA
didn't connect to Anubis at all.

> The Alpine error message I cited was the only one displayed.

Using Google Code Search, I found that this exact message
is related to Pine (and Alpine possible) S/MIME signing operation.

> BTW "info anubis" just brings up the man page. Intentional?

No. Unfortunately, Debian (and Ubuntu which is based on Debian)
refuse to include documentation under GNU FDL license from GNU projects.
Please use the online manual instead:

So....it may or may not be an Anubis problem. The question, I think, is
whether Anubis is looking for the certificate or is it gpg or what. If
Anubis, should it be doing that if I set ssl and ssl-oneway to NO?

I tried Thunderbird with enigmail and it doesn't ask for a certificate.

Attached is /etc/anubisrc. had to cp it to ~/ and chmod so Alpine would
attach it.

Hello,

The Anubis Team is pleased to announce the release of GNU Anubis 4.1.1.
The release is available by anonymous FTP from:

    ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/anubis/anubis-4.1.1.tar.gz

and from mirrors worldwide -- see http://www.gnu.org/prep/ftp.html.
The md5 checksums of the files are:

    28df4daee11bc74a9e4b19b425d8a196 anubis-4.1.1.tar.gz
    44575b1ced54693c944da601d683be29 anubis-4.1.1.tar.gz.sig

Overview:

GNU Anubis is an SMTP message submission daemon. It represents an
intermediate layer between mail user agent (MUA) and mail
transport agent (MTA), receiving messages from the MUA, applying
to them a set of predefined changes and finally inserting
modified messages into an MTA routing network. The set of changes
applied to a message is configurable on a system-wide and
per-user basis. The built-in configuration language used for
defining sets of changes allows for considerable flexibility and
is easily extensible.

More information is available at:

    http://www.gnu.org/software/anubis/

Please email bugs or suggestions to <bug-anubis@...>.

Following is the list of user-visible changes in this release:

** Automatic correction of MAIL and RCPT SMTP commands.

Some mail software inserts whitespace between 'MAIL TO:' or 'RCPT
FROM:' command and its argument. When handling these commands,
Anubis removes this extra whitespace, thereby making them
compliant to RFC 2821. This feature is particularly useful when
working with MTAs that enforce strict RFC compliance, such as
MeTA1.

** Fix loop-detection code.
** New configuration keywords sasl-realm, sasl-hostname and
   sasl-service.
** Minor improvements and bugfixes.
** New Danish, Indonesian, Italian, and Swedish message
   translations.

Regards,
Wojciech

Hi Pascal,

Thanks for your report.

> 1. On a server with IP address 10.1.1.1 and anubisrc containing:
>
> bind 10.1.1.1:25
> remote-mta 127.0.0.1
>
> Anubis gives the error "Loop not allowed. Connection rejected." It
> appears Anubis includes code to avoid loops, but this code has a bug
> wherein if both bind and remote IPs are on the same box and the port
> numbers match, it incorrectly believes that it would be talking to
> itself.

Indeed, this code seems a leftover from early versions. Moreover, I see
no reason why this check needs to be repeated on every connection.
Please try the attached patch.

I will return to points 2 and 3 later.

Regards,

Anubis gives the error "Loop not allowed. Connection rejected." It
appears Anubis includes code to avoid loops, but this code has a bug
wherein if both bind and remote IPs are on the same box and the port
numbers match, it incorrectly believes that it would be talking to itself.

2. I have been using Anubis v4.0 compiled with OpenSSL instead of
GnuTLS. Anubis v4.1 only supports GnuTLS. After upgrading, when
Thunderbird connects to Anubis I am now prompted for a certificate.
Same thing after I downgraded to Anubis v4.0 with GnuTLS. It appears
GnuTLS asks for a client cert while OpenSSL does not.

GnuTLS:
CLIENT >>> STARTTLS(10)
CLIENT <<< 220 Ready to start TLS(24)
- Certificate Type: X.509
- Compression: NULL

3. I have tested using Anubis v4.1 and v4.0, with both OpenSSL and
GnuTLS using Thunderbird as the MUA. In all cases I am unable to send
emails with a 150k file attachment if TLS is enabled. As soon as I
disable TLS between Thunderbird and Anubis, the email goes through fine.
10k file attachments work fine. Not sure the exact size required to
break it. Not sure if this bug is in Anubis or Thunderbird.

So beside s/mime issue, did you solve recent problems you had

> I set up Anubis with the following configuratio
and did you try "make check" to run all Anubis tests (including

You are binding Anubis to 192.168.100.37, so only this
specific host can connect to it. Omit the IP address
or put bind 0.0.0.0:PORT. Notice also that local-mta

Hello,

The Anubis Team is pleased to announce the release of GNU Anubis 4.1.
The release is available by anonymous FTP from:

    ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/anubis/anubis-4.1.tar.gz

and from mirrors worldwide -- see http://www.gnu.org/order/ftp.html.
The md5 checksums of the files are:

    fbbf97ee8e973347e0412bfeef14aa6a anubis-4.1.tar.gz
    2199bd7795c9089dd0176c5977ef00b7 anubis-4.1.tar.gz.sig

Overview:

GNU Anubis is an SMTP message submission daemon. It represents an
intermediate
layer between mail user agent (MUA) and mail transport agent (MTA),
receiving
messages from the MUA, applying to them a set of predefined changes and
finally
inserting modified messages into an MTA routing network. The set of
changes
applied to a message is configurable on a system-wide and per-user
basis. The
built-in configuration language used for defining sets of changes allows
for
considerable flexibility and is easily extensible.

More information is available at:

    http://www.gnu.org/software/anubis/

Please email bugs or suggestions to <bug-anubis@...>.

Following is the list of user-visible changes in this release:

The package is licensed under GPL version 3 (see COPYING for the
details).

** New features:

* New working mode: MDA

* The != (``not match'') operator is implemented.

The statement:

  if header ["To:"]  != "smith@.*"

is equivalent to

if not header ["To:"] = "smith@.*"

* Concatenation operator

Concatenation operator allows to run tests on a concatenation of values
of all headers or commands having same key. For example to get a
comma-separated list of all recipients, one could use:

    if command ["rcpt to:"] (",") = "(.*)"

Here, the (",") instructs Anubis to concatenate the values of all RCPT
TO
commands, using comma as a separator. The match on the right hand side
will
always succeed, and the concatenated value will be available via the
"\1"
substitution.

* Guile

With guile support enabled, Guile version 1.8.0 or later is required.

** Bug fixes
* Fixed handling of regular expressions
* Got rid of arbitrary-sized buffers. All memory is being allocated on
request.
* Process main configuration file no matter was the client recognized or
not.
* Errors in Guile scripts are catched and displayed early. In previous
versions they could cause aborting the subprocess.
* Support for GPGME 1.0.2
* Fixed minor bug in handling identd responses.
* Fixed SIGCHLD handling.

> But it seems that I do only geht the first address of RCPT TO, even when
> I send the mail to multiple recepients.

Yes, it is a known bug of Anubis 4.0. Technically speaking, the reason
for this behavior is that commands are kept internally in an associative
array, and the search in this array terminates when the first matching
entry is found. It was made on the assumption that any meaningful two-
part SMTP command is issued once. However, RCPT TO is just the command
that can lawfully be issued multiple times, and this breaks the logics.

Attached is a patch that I have in my local tree for months. With this
patch, all RCPT TO values are stored internally as a single
comma-separated string (much like To: or Cc: headers). So, the effect
of your rule will be:

Hi,

I'm trying to set up automatic mail encryption with Anubis. I want to
encrypt all mails, not regarding wether the user set some header or
subject values.

Therefore I'm trying to get all e-mail adresses from the the "RCPT TO"
command. I don't use the CC: or To: Headerlines as the header doesn't
contain the BCC recepients.

But it seems that I do only geht the first address of RCPT TO, even when
I send the mail to multiple recepients.

Heres my rule:

if command ["rcpt to:"] :extended "(.*)"
        add body "\1"
    fi

Its just setup for testing yet, so the encryption isn't done yet.
Sending an e-mail with this rule to:

        to: user1@...
        to: user2@...
        cc: user3@...
        bcc: user4@...

I hope to get an e-mail with:

user1@... user2@... user3@... user4@...

in the body of the mail. Anyway I only get

user1@...

in the mail body. The rest is just not printed to the body (also Anubis
finds all the other users, when a do a test on user4).

Is there any way to get all recpients in one variable?

Regards
Ben Fleckenstein
